Johnny Borrell produced track

Hi guys,

Someone gave me this link http://www.2shared.com/file/3141960/...01_bricks.html (wait a few secs for the download bit to load) and told me this Florence and the Machine track is one that Johnny Borrell produced and plays on (keys apparently) but was never released. I know that he has appeared on stage with them several times and is a big fan, but Johnny the producer?

Can anyone tell me if this is true? Would love to know.

Anything to

do with that bellend = Utter Gash.

I'd do anything

involving her gash and my bell end

dear god

matt!

first rule of jagging

make sure the link works.

woops

whats Jagging, sorry didn't realize the link didn't work.

Jagging

is when someone who has never posted before comes on here to advertise some track or other which they are very obviously involved in in some way, yet choose to pretend they are not.

However, I don't believe this is a jag as nobody in their right mind would want to let people think they have anything to do with Johnny Borrell whatsoever.

alas its not a "jag"

nope it's not. My friend told me this track was produced my Johnny and he plays keys on it. But the band won't release it (clearly because somepeople dont like Johnny very much) But my question still stands, can be tell me if this is a Johnny Borrell track?

help?

so can anyone help?

Fair enough but the thing is...

when anyone comes on the site and their first posts are all about this fairly obscure band, and they seem to know quite a bit about the band but are still asking everyone else questions about them, it looks a bit supicious. Especially when the thread title appears to be advertising, rather than trying to find out information.

Anyway, I suppose my questions are:

a) Wouldn't it be listed on the bands' website or somewhere? Wouldn't they have announced "Johnny Borrell's producing our song" somewhere as it's probably the biggest selling point they'd have so far.

b) Why are you so desperate to know the answer?

and

c) Isn't this story a tiny bit implausible? I.e. an obscure band has a famous and successful singer (who, in fairness, as many people like as hate) produce one of their songs and then refuse to use it because some people dont like said famous and successful singer (although they're quite happy to have him on stage which is a far more blatant way to show their friendship with him). That doesn't add up for a second. What's more, surely not releasing it 'cos people hate him'd be pretty ungrateful since the guy had taken the time to produce the song.

So basically the story you are telling us (i.e. the one you've been told by your friend) is utterly inconsistent and therefore I would presume it to be wrong.

^

It needs a Wikipedia

Entry.... this will only add to it's folklore.

sorry to

continue off topic.

I don't think anyone will believe me, but a friend told me that someone he knows (who slept with borrell) told him,

that when he makes a woman orgasm, he makes them shout his full name. And gets a bit. touchy if they don't.

wow

My favourite sex expose in any newspaper ever was about Keven Pietersen

allegedly he can only 'perform' if the woman chants his name...

Borrell doesnt play the keys

HE IS THE KEYS

TALENT IS THE GATES

THEY IS LOCKED

borrell plays his very own

pink oboe on the track, expertly manipulated with a microscope and a pair of tweezers...

cemera obscura

florence and the machine are not that obscure. They're fashionable london sorts arent they? Nambucca types. So therefore i can imagine a twat like borrell could have lent a helping hand to try and look credible.

Never actually heard the artist myself mind... probably gash.

Hmmm

the band do not mention it at all and Johnny appeared on stage with them last year? but my friend says hes 98.7% sure that Johnny recorded and played on this track.. I will keep researching.

Conclusion

Hi I myspaced Razorlight and got this reply.

"Hi there,

We have been getting a lot of messages regarding this track. It is true that Johnny did produce and perform on this track, but Florence and the machine decided not to release it as their single. The track was never released and we would ask you to not distribute this further and would like to ask how you got hold of it?

Kind regards

Ben
on behalf of Razorlight

pix

or it didn't happen

Unless

he's at least 98.8% sure, I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

It's true.

SEE ABOVE!

I don't

believe you.

try

myspace Razorlight then! From the sounds of it they have got lots of messages about it.

This is a really odd thread...

There's clearly more going on here than meets the eye but I don't really get why or what the motivation behind it is...

Lots doesn't add up. Particularly the Razorlight reply which seems ultra swift for such a big band and also reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Lenny & Carl can't keep the secret of the Stonemasons.

I mean if they didn't want anyone to know they'd surely issue a flat out denial rather than say to some random fan who messaged them "yes it's true but don't tell anyone" as said fan would inevitablty stick it online like above...

yeah.... I love how

martinsmith doesn't reply when you call him out.

...

or I made the reply up myself?

only joking..

nah I didnt they really did reply... but just giving you possible options. What can I say they really did produce the track and Johnny did play on it, as a big fan or Razorlight I am quite excited.

ZING

seriously, there's no way they sent you that message.

they did so.

message them then! what else can I say.

i have solved the mystery

martinsmith=johnny borrell

IF ONLY!

hahaha I wish!

Is it worse to be Johnny Borrell, or to want to be Johnny Borrell

And is a bloody, messy death preferable to either?

this is fun isn't it!

so now we all agree its true we can move on with our lives.

:D

you're funny. make up more stuff please.

seriously

who gives a fucking toss martinshitehawk? if you're willing to stick around here and propogate such a dull boring unnecessarily shite rumour about a band we've not heard of (and will now forever associate with bullshit marketing tactics on message boards) and someone who is more reknowned for using worldwide media platforms to air his nipples than his musical/producing skills, then you're seriously mistaken that we care. If you are *that* concerned about this then ask on the razorlight message boards, you're doing more harm than good here.

Just to recap: What's orange and looks good on Johnny Borell? FIRE.

I like

Johnny Borrell

..

What am I meant to have marketed? A band that don't want to be associated with Johnny Borrell and deny the track has anything to do with them? I did ask the message board, I got no reply they are as dead as a dodo. We then established that I messaged Razorlight and they confirmed the story. The story then finished.

I don't think you've done anything wrong

Apart from get a bunch of nerds in a flap. I find these threads depressing.

And I wasn't being sarcastic - I quite like Johnny Borrell

no we agree Johnny did produced the track...

do we like it? do we hate it?

^ This

(apart from the liking Johnny Borrell part). Its a strange mobbish thing.

This is the greatest thread

since Tits-Fest '08.

Man, you missed Tits-Fest '08???

It was simply a load of us watching Showgirls on Ch5, and offering a running commentary. It was pretty special.

Yeah

Showgirls. Saved by the Bell. Amazingness.

whoa,

this is the most paranoid and ridiculous thread i've ever seen on DiS! If martinsmith did make it up as a marketing ploy (which i really don't think he did) then props for the initiative! Otherwise someone myspace Razorlight and put this to bed...

I've

emailed razorlight's myspace to find out if this is true or not...will report back if/when i get a reply :)

Replied

A guy called ben replied to a myspace message, exactly the same thing that is written above that this martin smith guy said he got...maybe it is true then?

TOLD YOU SO

TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU.

OMG! I've just realised!

track sounds like cack!

Wow.

How has this thread engendered so many replies?

What does it matter whether Borrell produced it? It doesn't alter the fact that he should take his shitty face and fuck off the edge of the world.

okay

so everyone hates Borrell (I'm indifferent to him) but isn't it still obviously a rub for Florence and The Machine? Not many people here might have heard of her although she is getting some attention now and was at SXSW recently.

Also, I can't imagine two independent, not related to any of the people involved in the making of the track would register on two different websites and posting exactly the same question on the same day:
http://forum.gigwise.com/topic?topic_id=68641

And if that is "martinsmith" too, I feel it's even more proof that it's a jag. Which I don't mind at all, it's just s/he denied it above. It makes me pine for the noble jaggers of yesteryear.

Anyways, fuck it, I'm off to work.

good morning..

How is everyone this morning? I didn't have any innocent smoothie left, was quite gutted, broke up my morning regime.

So have you heard back from Razorlight myspace? The download link doesn't work anymore, shall I upload it again? Can Johnny even play the keyboard? Are we all big Johnny fans now?

HAHA!

That Kearnsey guy's brilliant, someone get him signed up!

Actually, maybe Gigwise is the place to be.

JAG

that is all

Conspiracy!

I'm actually intrigued. This is more gripping than Mad Men.

:D

Shittest

Jag

Ever

and post of the millenium.

If you

look at martinsmith's recent board posts, it clearly reads "Johnny Borrell produced track by martinsmith", so maybe this is a subliminal method of getting Borrell to produce his own indie bedroom drama?

Seriously

Check that link from sierraleone, it's quite funny.

Indeed tis.

quite ace.

forever yo be known on gigwise

as "Borrelling"

duh!

Yes I went onto the Razorlight forum asking about the track but no one ever goes on there so I came here to ask. You haven't solved a mystery scooby do. There isn't one, I like Razorlight, my mate gave me a track and probably some other people as well as said this is Johnny produced, I went yeah whatever and he said yeah it is honest. So I went and researched, and found it it really is! So I am happy. I have also found this lovely forum and shall continue to stay here to talk about the great Razorlight.

There's a great Razorlight?

You should let them know: their name's been nicked by a ickhead.

What does Razorlight even mean?

*dickhead

the onyl good thing about Razorlight

I when Jols ays the band name

rrrrazor...light!

eveyone knows that

should mr smith have posted some random messages in other forums too first?

that's what I considered doing befroe advertising my band- then I was made to see the light

I quite like the story of getting girls to say one's full name at the point of extacy (which I don't think I've spelt right)I may look into that

or it could be a great concept album of different girls voice from around the globe

*ecstacy

drugs are bad

yes

good one thanks

Did I say I solved something.

Just searched where else you did post the same thread.
Never jumped on any conclusion.
Expect a lot of DiSScussion about the "great" Razorlight here...

Who is Johnny Borrell?

And unless it is a pseudonym for Steve Albini then why the fuck should I or anyone else care who he produces?

umm

He is the lead singer of Razorlight and has sold 4million records and his band has headlined every major uk festival. Or are you being sarcastic?

Either way

Do either of those things validate his production credentials?

yes

yes, more so than your average joe. Either way I have found out who produced this track and if you look above you will see that I was right and it was Johnny who produced the track which is all I wanted to know.

Great,

then you don't need to post anymore on this topic.

Well go you.

In reply to your earlier query - before starting to read this thread I quite genuinely had no idea who Johnny Borrel was due to a resounding lack of interest in Razorlight.

And does the fact that he sings for Razorlight make his production pedigree interesting? I don't know. Let me know what he's like with close-micing or at least whether he prefers analogue or digital recording. Actually, don't. I don't care.

..

wow you lot really don't like me! I only wanted to find an answer to a question, most of this conversation isn't me!

I don't know Johnny personally, but I imagine being in the studio all the time and having a production credit on 2 major selling albums would make him more than capable.

I don't know Johnny Rotten but I bet he puts as much blood and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Fr

have you ever stood next to someone at a gig and heard them say 'and to think, I didn't even know this band existed until I saw that link to their myspace in a JAG. and now they are my favourite band and I buy all their records and fellate them at every opportunity...'?

Didn't think so.

you know

if you flog that dead horse long enough you'll end up with dog food.

Being a partisan of frankly shit marketing tactics, I met bily corgan recently and he had absolutely no memory of amy blue until i reminded him, I was quietly gutted...

oh and don't take it personally.

its not that we 'don't like you'. We don't like anyone. This entire site is fuelled by bile and venom.

I only post on here to let the rage out so I don't punch my wife.
