neither

well

it would have been scary if you saw it when it premiered or followed the viral marketing campaign with the belief that it was a true event.

shit? no. it's not the best film but it has grossed like, 1000 times the amount it cost to make it.

but do sales ever reflect quality?

i think it's pretty fucking average

not at all

but what i was alluding to is that even though you might not like it, it was a groundbreaking film with the marketing campaign and as bamos refers to, those that followed it seemed to absolutely love it.

btw, it grossed 10,000 times it's original budget. that is absolute madness.

fair 'nuf

^ this

My girlfriend at the time was obsessed by the marketing campaign and got proper into it and loved the whole thing.

I kinda missed it, so it wasn't really 'the same' for me. Probably.

It is ok.

Its just pretty unerving throughout. With everything that has followed in terms of publicity though, its bound to be a letdown.

I enjoyed it....

more creepy than scary and it was the first film (that I remember anyway) to really use the internet and make the film/website an international success.

I think the amount of hype it had prior to release

would have counted against it, I saw it in the cinema and can remember some imaginationless goons behind me going 'what?! I don't understand... that wasn't scary..' With it being called 'the scariest film ever' by some quarters there was always going to be a backlash.
I did like the viral marketing campaign about planting the backstory though.

A classic!

Scary and unsettling, just like a good horror film should be.
