are one of those bands where i really love the singles (and i mean REALLY REALLY LOVE), but cant really get into the albums. I've got Fear of Music and Remain in Light but they are fairly dormant in my record collection. I need some help, help me to love them like i know i should.
buy
the greatest hits
dammit
i dont know why i didnt think of that!
to be fair
you've got the best two albums to get into them as albums (maybe you might want to check out More Songs About Buildings and Food, too), so maybe you just don't like the albums.
there is a way to work around this and still enjoy the greatest album of their work: Stop Making Sense. there are a lot of singles, there's also the best album tracks (Life During Wartime and Crosseyed and Painless are brilliant on it), maybe that'll help you get into the albums, and if it doesn't but you still love it, you win!
yeah
i've got that. its playing now. so great.
The best thing you can do is buy
The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads.
It's a 2-CD live restrospective, about 40 tracks, which basically has really good live performances of the best songs on the albums from 77-81 (pre-Speaking In Tongues, when they started to sound a lot more recognisably 80's, so to speak).
But they are worth persevering with, the first few albums are brilliant - and as I think someone else has said, the two prior to the ones you cited ('77 and More Songs About Buildings And Food) are a lot more pop-bubblegum-punky and very catchy.
Fear Of Music and Remain In Light are clearly more experimental, and this is probably down to the greater influence of Eno and African polyrhythms. Trust me, you'll get there eventually - you should at least try!
There's a 3CD and 1 DVD boxset
Which has all the really good stuff in one handy package.
If you don't like 'Remain In Light' then
there's no hope for you
i was hoping
for some more constructive information than that
watch
stop making sense. if that doesn't get you into them, nothing will.

yeah, i've got that
and its brilliant. its more the studio albums i've not got my head round.
They can take a few listens
but I promise, once you've cracked them you'll be in heaven. Damn genius band.
id advise you to really just keep listening to them
or perhaps work through the albums chronologically. 77 is perhaps easier to get into, then youll like the rest of their stuff.
Remain in Light
best album ever!
Try loving 77' first
Then "More Songs About Buildings And Food". Trust me love will happen. Then back to "Fear Of Music" (which is one of the best home alone cds ever) and finally fall in love with "Remain In Light". Try listening to them on shuffle, or making mix music with your least favorite tracks.
Sometimes I don't fall for music totally until I see it live- "Stop Making Sense" DVD or the Double Live CD "The Name Of The Band Is Talking Heads" (a remarkable document but a there is a lack of artist-audience spark)
