as a rule of thumb, you shouldn't have more n 3 fruit (cos of sugars), but you can have as many veg (especially green leafy veg) as you want(cos, as pointed out above, it'll just help clean your insides and dirty your toilet paper).
Have had strawberries, big salad and an avocado and I'm having a thai beef and brocolli thing later...yay. I feel accomplished and suddenly more healthy.
glass of orange juice (from concentrate)
some cucumber, 1 tomato and lettuce in sandwich
1/2 onion, 1 pepper, 4 mushrooms, more lettuce, fair amount of sweetcorn, and most of a little tub of salsa
if you don't get "5 a day" without even bothering, there's something wrong. It's no wonder people are obese in this country when they have to set themselves a target to eat only 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day.
with people who don't eat five 'fruit and veg' a day. Or, some people have different diets that don't fit in with some completely arbitrary amount of one particular food group.
I remember at school they'd tell us that being healthy was about having a meal made up of one thing from each of five food groups. I can't remember what they were, like, fruit, meat, carbs or proteins or something.
Now, it's five fruit and veg a day, a number they've seemingly picked from thin air. Pish.
A healthy day can start with a cereal, move onto maybe a jacket potato for lunch (if you want to be on this 'health' kick) and then meat & two for tea. Which doesn't equal 'five a day'.
I couldn't remember, I was too busy thinking about having to go and piss after drinking my OBVIOUSLY WHOLLY NECESSARY OTHERWISE YOU'LL DIE two litres of water a day.
they eat poor food and too much of it. "5 a day" has fuck all to do with it. i'm not claiming i'm slim, but i eat really badly and i'm not overweight. the difference is i just eat in moderation.
I dunno if I'd say it's nannystateish, only because so few people seem to have any idea what eating in a relatively healthy way involves. I work in a health food shop and so many people come in complaining that they need something for energy.
Me: What's your diet like?
Customer: I'm not on a diet.
Me: Oh, sorry, I mean do you eat a balanced range of foods, regular meals and so on?
Customer: Oh, well, I can't really be bothered so I have a huge latte and a cake for breakfast, feel a bit tired by lunch time so I'll have a few doughnuts delivered to my desk, then when I get home it's down the chippy or a couple of microwave lasagnes, one's too small isn't it? That's about normal, right?
Obviously the above is a slight exaggeration, but not as much as you'd hope.
For example, a microwave meal can cost as little as 99p. It'd be pretty hard to buy all the ingrediants for a healthy meal, including veg for even close to the same price.
yesterday
:)
Yesterday!
In my stir fry I had:
Brocolli
Chinese Leaf
Mangy-Touts
Courgette
Mushrooms
Green Peppers
Also had a satsuma during the day. Go me!
Sunday probably
Think I'm ticking over four this week (less than normal this year), but I'm on an "eat whatever I want" binge until next week anyway.
this may be a daft question
but can you have "too many" of your 5 a day?
technically yes
but it's not the worst thing you'll ever do foodwise.
and most of it will go through you
so the only part of you that will actually notice is your bum hole...
that muffin aches my belly :(
you've got GOUT!
depends
as a rule of thumb, you shouldn't have more n 3 fruit (cos of sugars), but you can have as many veg (especially green leafy veg) as you want(cos, as pointed out above, it'll just help clean your insides and dirty your toilet paper).
I ignore that though
When I was ten most likely....
Quite possibly never.
REALLY?
I more or less lived on sugar when I was young
And I haven't ever cooked. Like anything. I had one of those fruit salad boxes a few weeks ago, how many portions is that?
I'm not sure
because I don't know what counts as 1. Like obviously 1 apple = 1, but what about vegetables in a stir fry or pasta?
I drink alot of smoothies 'cos I'm lazy
and they are darn tastey too
i had some strawberry and banana this fair morn. YUMMY!!!!!
Strawberry and banana is the best flavour.
here we go
http://www.5aday.nhs.uk/WhatCounts/PortionSizesVegetables.aspx
Not the easiest thing to keep in mind though!
I think I probably get 3 a day at most then
yeah i think about the same
i should sort that out really
Strawberry skins
and lots of them?
It's before noon and I think I've already done it today
I'm like the bizarro-Lemmy
monday
last night i just ate bread and crisps and went drinking
Yesterday,
in fact pretty much everyday. One down today...4 to go!
I think today is looking good...
Have had strawberries, big salad and an avocado and I'm having a thai beef and brocolli thing later...yay. I feel accomplished and suddenly more healthy.
Much like PocketMouse here, not for a very, very long time, if ever.
hmmm

You are a cold, cold man.
I can't figure out whether I'm supposed
to be offended by that or not.
I shouldn't be
it's just referencing coldy pairing people off. The world's not against you. This time.
Next time, gadget, next time
The world is totally against me
DiS even more so.
The world is against all of us
prejudicial bastard
i got to two yesterday
and will likely do the same to me.
WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?
They had a food fight
in his belly. He's now suffering with terrible indigestion
not far off
i've started eating bananas at lunch, in an effort to be a bit more 'healthy', and they do make my stomach twinge..
poor fragile danybabes!
maybe last friday?
possibly approached 7 or 8. occasionally i am a healthy vegetarian, and dont just eat chesse and veggie sausages
yesterday maybe
i had at least three
yesterday
chips for lunch totally counts as one yeh?
and some orange juice, and mushroom/butternut squash in a pilau and some grapes.
i might end up getting it today if i can be arsed to go to the worst morrisons in the world after work.
yesterday
glass of orange juice (from concentrate)
some cucumber, 1 tomato and lettuce in sandwich
1/2 onion, 1 pepper, 4 mushrooms, more lettuce, fair amount of sweetcorn, and most of a little tub of salsa
i'm pretty sure i got 5 portions out of that
Yesterday
but I've been having my 5 a day for atleast the past 2 weeks, as I've realised it's so easy to do.
Every day.
Im a vegetarian.
the two aren't mutually inclusive you realise
No, but it helps.
every day

It's an absolute sack of bulljizz.
* fruit, meat, carbs, proteins, beer
That was probably it.
I couldn't remember, I was too busy thinking about having to go and piss after drinking my OBVIOUSLY WHOLLY NECESSARY OTHERWISE YOU'LL DIE two litres of water a day.
You're an absolute sack of bulljizz
I'm going to go and eat some fruit
out of SPITE
Sprite?
WHATAREBEL!
this ^
I'm normally on 4 or 5 by after lunch
it's really not difficult
people are obese because
they eat poor food and too much of it. "5 a day" has fuck all to do with it. i'm not claiming i'm slim, but i eat really badly and i'm not overweight. the difference is i just eat in moderation.
i think it's pretty symbolic
nanny state and all that...
In (everybody's favourite country) japan the recommended amount is like 10 or something. And they're all well healthy.
Hmm...
I dunno if I'd say it's nannystateish, only because so few people seem to have any idea what eating in a relatively healthy way involves. I work in a health food shop and so many people come in complaining that they need something for energy.

every day ;)
damn you and your tastey tastey food!
Weekend
Strawberry Laces
Strongbow
Carrot Cake
Disco Beans
Cherry Garcia
imagine what would have happened if you had cider and blackcurrent!
i'm not sure
i definitely have two (an apple and a banana) with my lunch, then it depends what we have for dinner. I reckon I average about four.
The other day I had seven portions
all i the form of innocent smoothies. Mmm hmmm...
I rarely actually have my five, I should try harder. I think I had three yesterday, which is fairly good for me.
I couldn't afford to have five portions of fruit and veg every day.
Healthy food is waaaay too expensive.
It really isn't
I'm in a dire financial state and can afford to buy fruit and veg.
You can fill yourself up on junk food
a lot cheaper.
For example, a microwave meal can cost as little as 99p. It'd be pretty hard to buy all the ingrediants for a healthy meal, including veg for even close to the same price.
I don't think smoothies count more than once, like fruit juice
I thought this might be the case.
I think it can count for up to three or something like that.
Yesterday, but I am not consistant.
I usually have a good week then a bad week.
I don't think I'm getting enough Riboflavin
every day I reckon
I like fruit and vegetables. I don't try and do it though.
i have at least five everyday too
so why do i still look and feel like shit?
i have way more than 5.
vegetables are amazing.
you're quite right though, i still feel like shit though too.
might have something to do with the several litres of alcohol i consume every week though.
