...maybe if I work with him, I can perfect the art"
This makes me very VERY happy. It's like the exact opposite of Beverley Hills lyrically - laden with snarky comments etc - as played by the Pinkerton era band.
This bodes very well indeed. Reckon this is one of the ones the band produced themselves?
kind of somewhere between Pinkerton and Green, which is fine by me. Thing is, they'll never recapture the giddy adolescent thrill of Blue because they're international superstars now rather than geeky kids in a garage, but it's great to see they can still write good pop songs.
This >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Every single they've put out post-Pinkerton.
Not as good as anything on Blue or Pinkerton, but hooray. Theyre pretty decent again!
There's a make believe vibe on there (those chunky fat riffs and solos belting out all over the place) but the vocals are the best they've been since Pinkerton and that Weezer kookyness is back in action and not in a Beverley Hills sorta way.
dont know what all the fuss is about. if you want to hear pinkerton era weezer...then maybe just listen to it?
weezer stopped being relevant or interesting a long time ago. as sad as that definately is.
The amount of antisipation and hype surrounding the upcomming album and the amount of attention a 30 SECOND clip got suggest otherwise, despite a poor last album.
still anticipate new weezer will be great and indeed these boards are teeming with anticipation, definately. but I just find it very strange that people only seem to like new weezer..if it sounds like old weezer. does that make them creatively defunct?
but having listened non stop over the last few days to Pinkerton, it is too produced to sound anything like that album. Blue/Green yes... not Pinkerton.
since my last post. But why is everyone glossing around the whole 'lyrics are shit' issue?! I mean, they're almost Beverly Hills bad - they take so much away from what could be a great Weezer single
if you want a good quality rip of this, you might want to check some of the torrent sites. Can't say for certain, because obviously I don't involve myself in that sort of thing, but I've got a hunch you might say something. Don't know why you'd want to though. I've had another couple of listens and I've decided it's shit.
It's definitely horrible, even having cranked the high quality version.
The lyrics are terrible, just vague meandering with some sort of possible-meta-bitching about being in a band.
The rest of it seems completely phoned in, a lazy chugalong that just sort of farts itself out of existence at the end.
I'd say it's their Masses Against the Classes, but it's not even that good. And it sounds like Pinkerton? Get te fuck it sounds like Pinkerton. Jesus we all desperately want Weezer to put out something half decent but this is not it.
I wish I had my headphones with me.
I've listened to the clip lots.
yay!
now i can go to sleep, once i've tracked it down...

Love the chorus, but otherwise a bit..meh. And don't get me started on those lyrics.

They're actually good again!
:)
eeee!
I wish i wasnt at work
and could listen to it now....this afternoon is gonna proper drag now...FUCK IT ALL TO HELL!
I've not liked Weezer for a while
but I really quite like this
Shocked
as I was really expecting it to be utter shit.
There's a make believe vibe on there (those chunky fat riffs and solos belting out all over the place) but the vocals are the best they've been since Pinkerton and that Weezer kookyness is back in action and not in a Beverley Hills sorta way.
^ right you are
couldn't agree more
yes yes yes!
this is promising indeed.
Finally got it
It's awesome! So happy!
W00000000T
So happy weezer are back with an amazing single. SO SO SO good.
two cents:
it's like 'pinkerton' weezer ripping the piss out of "beverly hills" weezer.
i'm definitely very excited to hear the full red album.
Their best song in ages
its fantastic! literally amazing pop song
its alright

weezer.com
has the song now
listening...
... to it in decent quality on the Weezer site and I absolutely adore it. Can't be bothered deconstructing it right now, it just fucking rocks :-)
No.
They're a pop band.
Blue/Pinkerton = Amazing pop records.
Green/Maladroit/Make Believe = Bad pop records, which most definitely could be described as "creatively defunct".
So, if Rivers is writing great pop songs again, I'd call it a return to their creative best.
I like it
on first listen. If the album can maintain the standard, post Make Believe equilibrium will be restored!
It sounds nothing like Pinkerton, you idiots
Why are people saying it sounds like Pinkerton? Get your heads out of your arses.
I agree with this. It is very good, sure,
but having listened non stop over the last few days to Pinkerton, it is too produced to sound anything like that album. Blue/Green yes... not Pinkerton.
Totally agree
You wouldn't get that chorus on Pinkerton... it's probably closest to Maladroit era.
Anyone else think the verse sounds a bit like Pavement?
I thought the
whole song had a Pavement feel to it. Especially the vocals...
yeah a bit
on further listening, I think the verse is good, the chorus is great and the middle eight is just awful. Still, averages out at a good song.
It's grown on me
since my last post. But why is everyone glossing around the whole 'lyrics are shit' issue?! I mean, they're almost Beverly Hills bad - they take so much away from what could be a great Weezer single
Really?
I think the lyrics are funny, sort of mocking Beverly Hills
*glossing over
skirting around
i love it
if the rest of the album is half as oodas this song it will be better than make believe.
opp
*good as

no, just no

I'm with you
It's just so bland but if that's what Weezer fans want these days. Let them have it. I can keep my Blue and Pinkerton memories and live with that....

speechless
also
one of the non-Rivers vocals songs is about, albeit in remix form:

Weezer were shite then
and they're still shit. I listened to this song and ...yeah, it's shit... still. Let your childhood go, my friends!
I've never really heard Weezer before
but that song was DULL.
