I'm fully aware that this is probably the 537th thread on this topic, but I'm only starting this so I can give you my opinion on what I think is the most underrated albums.
Phantomsmasher - Phantomsmasher
I've had this album for nigh on 5 years, and not once has it failed to shred my mind to pieces. Very intelligent ambient influenced grind perhaps? I'm not sure, but it's a bloody good record, and I think you should all get a copy. Your turn.
Killing Joke - Hosannas from the basement of hell
Killing Joke in general are underrated but this is a seriously good but unloved album and needs more exposure.
God I am so paranoid about JAGs now
let me just check - you're not James Plotkin right?
Anyhoo - 'Scenes from the Second Storey' THe God Machine. This is part of my campaign to get this record re-apraised as being on a par with 'Spiderland' and 'In the aeroplane'
ben christophers
the spaces in between. cracking album. criminally underrated songwriter...
I'm really glad I'm not James Plotkin...
scenes
is a masterpiece
What's the name of that album that people think is crap
but is actually quite good?
That one.
Denim
Back In Denim. The lost great album of Brit Pop, maybe two years too early for the whole scene.
No, it wasn't that one.
Clearlake - Cedars
Not so much underrated as simply no one I know actually knows who they are, yet they blow pretty much all their peers except Elbow out the goddamn water. Ceders is monstrous, epic, the wrath of the countryside and the death of the rural idyll - strangely, the chief concerns of another good band with 'lake' in their name, Midlake.
Cedars
is weak. I was well disappointed.
Not that it's good form to argue a point with a review
but considering they're essentially a bunch of brit unknowns, Pitchfork giving Cedars 9.1 rather heavily indicates 'weak' is a rather underthought conclusion.

I'd humbly suggest a reinvestigation of it.
BS 2000
Simply Mortified
Shouty distorted vocals, hardcore beats, kitsch keys, people talking French, rollercoasters, a song for yr Mom, Ad-rock, AWOL!
A little-known much-loved underrated spin-off classic x
Mad Action- And Begin
Great rock with catchy hooks- if you like BJM, BRMC, Dandy Warhols, etc.
Elefant-Sunlight makes me paranoid
that last pulp one
and all of red house painters / mark kozelek / sunkilmoon records...apart from the most recent one because that got amazing reviews everywhere weirdly. probably cos will oldham did a vocal on it.
also in reference to above, DENIM were sweet.
World's Apart - ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
It's energetic, splenetic, janus faced and eccentric. No wonder the critics savaged it.
worlds apart
is a stunner. a Stone Cold Stunner.
Kevin Drew - Spirit If
It's really solid and good and practically the same as a new Broken Social Scene album yet nobody ever talks about it. 'Backed Out On The...' is a fantastic song.
I agree
it's actually better (and more consistent) than the last BSS album. The Lucky Ones is brilliant, as is Gang Bang Suicide and most of the other tracks.
Another vote for Worlds Apart too.
Trying to think of one of my own. Murray Street? Fall Heads Roll? Not sure if they count.
Buhloone Mindstate by De La Soul
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buhloone_Mindstate
To me, easily the equal to 3 Feet High...
In fact, all the later De La.. albums are seriously overlooked.
i dont think
3 feet high was ever equalled but thats just me
3 feet's definitely one of my favourite albums..
...but it's like an excitable puppy. It's amazing, but it lurches from single to single. Buhloone flows so much better.
good lord
it's like someone on here might have a reasonable argument without brutally DISsing me. i'll give it another listen.
Colin Blunstone - One Year
It's the first solo album by the Zombies singer and really tricky to get hold of. His voice on it is unbeleivable and there's lush minimalist orchestration all up in that!
Couple of tracks here:

it's
nick drake-tastic..very very good.
Television "Adventure" and "Television" (self-titled)
Two really overlooked albums that are Jam Packed with Tele-visions! "Adventure" is now available in a remaster double-pack with "Marquee Moon", "Television" is hard to find but it can be ordered easy enough.
Enjoy!
Fireside - Elite
is an amazing record that not enough people have heard.
-
Black Tambourine - Complete Recordings. More people should listen to it, it's a noisy pop classic.
This Et Al's 'Baby Machine'
I say it every fucking time, but it's that good. It mashes elements of post-rock, hardcore, post-punk, angular indie, shoegaze and clownstep* into one incredible little package of joy.
*may not strictly be true
Jacobs Mouse
Rubber Room
In It For The Money
