I'm proud to say that "Rocky Horror Picture Show" has never been a guilty pleasure of mine.
I have lots more guity pleasure but these are just some that I have listend to recently.
snakefinger and abc are nothing to be ashamed of in my book.
and certainly not the tom tom club. I don't know who would rip you on here for liking them.
I like a lot of manufactured pop music. In particular the creations of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. I wouldn't call this a guilty pleasure though, i tell people this when they ask what music i like, amongst other things of course.
I say fuck it to guilty pleasuers
If somebody has a problem with what you're listening to they should find better things to do with their lives. I love the Dandy Warhols. I will say that Come Down is perhaps my second favorite album, and that I listened to it on the way to work yesterday. I also love Dire Straits, Santana, Emerson Lake and Palmer and The Divinyls. Sorry, but it's true. And I don't feel guilty about it all. Guilt should be reserved for adultery and murder. Not music.
^
Well said that man.
Okay
Linking, Slipknot, Incubus, Lost Prophets, basically a shed load of slightly out-of-date nu metal that I must let go...
oh, and the starlight express soundtrack.
^
Yeah, c'mon rue...we know whatcha mean, but really who gives a fuck. And you've gotta try harder than ABC... cos everybody knows Lexicon and even the next one were rather great. And I'm mildly offended you even consider Dandy Warhols a guilty pleasure. Fuck me if they weren't the coolest band in the late 90s when every dickhead and their brother was listening to Limp fucking Bizcut. The Cult's Love is one of the 80s best records. Fact. Dreamtime is a great one too. (True, the Cult sucked when they went arena-rock...)
Must try harder! Like say... Cher's Half Breed. Or ELO. Or Tom Jones' What's New Pussycat whoa, whoa ...and these are only 'uncool' stuff. Guilty? Not me yer honor!
oceanRain makes all good points except,
Tom Jones, I can listen to him with severe pride. Or were you being sarcastic about Tom Jones?
100% agree
If you like it, you like it....why be embarressed? Do you really care that someones gonna see Cher on your ipod and be all like "OMGODZZZ!!!!".
Fuck other peoples taste.
Tom McRae
The musicals of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
gosh
ALW is something that makes Tom McRae seem OK
how can you hate the phantom of the opera
I like most musicals on the whole, which is bizarre considering I spend 90% of my time working hard at being cynical and grumpy.
Oh yes another big guilty pleasure is Feeder, so shoot me.
?
Can't you be cynical and grumpy and still like musicals? It hasn't stopped me.
oceanRain:Sorry, I'll suck harder next time.
A word about Dandys: I was living in Portland, Oregon when the Dandy Warhols were coming up and Portland folk hate to see their own make good cause Portland is one of those towns where everyone to too cool for words. Whenever they came home they'd play the Paris Theatre and I always went to see them, but I always felt weird cause I knew I was was going to have to either not talk about how great I thought they were or be quiet and keep it as a quilty pleasure.
Seriously, I think that's were the title of their 1st cd comes from: "Dandy's Rule, OK?
I'll take more pride in future.
I meant
oceanRain, next time I'll come up with something to be really guilty about.
Vast is nowt to be ashamed of.
Me?:
Alanis Morissette
Skin
Sevendust
Panic At The Disco
My Chemical Romance
s'about it for now
oops, I see what you mean
I can defend none of those
it's cool,
i keep it to myself usually. I have it under control.
take panic at the disco back
they are brilliant as are MCR
"i dont love you, like i loved you....YESTERDAYYYYYYYY"
Beating Heart Baby -
Head Automatica. I know it's wrong...
^ DO NOT BE STUPID! ^
^ this.
if that's the worst you can do then YOU should be the one ashamed of yourself. Or something...
God, i'll never justify Alanis
*Yyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaawwwwwww
i don't have any MCR albums
but i genuinely like "the black parade" and i think a couple of the other songs of theirs i heard.
their second one
'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge' is hefty nice. The singles are a little cringe-inducing though (apart from Helena, which is rather good)
i lissten to some Christian music
recommend me Christian
Please!
most contemprary christian music (CCM) is total cack
but hillsong united (australian "worship" band) are pretty good. thier best album is "united we stand". there was a british band called Delirious who are a bit past-their-best now but their early albums were good. King of Fools is their most popular album.
there are also christian-but-not-CCM artists like pedro the lion, sufjan stevens, low (though they're mormons, which is slightly different) and iron and wine (i think) - all of whom have christianity running through their lyrics but aren't as preachy.
it's a minefield though.
Lift to Experience
Old Testament fury.
Low are Mormons?
Well, so am I. First time I saw SWANS, Low opened and I remember how sweet and tidy they were- Just like SALT LAKE CITY- which I like to call Whoville.
Ugh
I've seen Delirious so very many times it's not funny. I used to vaguely like a couple of songs, but... no. Not any more. Quench, Jars of Clay and dc:talk all still get the occasional play though...
other stuff like
P.O.D., Danielson too...
A Dandy Warhol question
can anyone explain this lyric?
"Wire's comin back again, Eee-las-ti-ca got sued by them"
Elastica sound a lot like Wire
And got sued because of it
I'm glad I'm good at reading through the lines.
But Wire DIDN'T sue Elastica?
.
Yep
Had to pay about 30k for Connection I think as sounds like three Girl Rhumba by Wire
i played three girl rhumba to an ex once
and she was like "oooh it's the trigger happy tv song...wait, this version isn't as good"
We didn't see each other for much longer after that exchange. Heh.
I've listened to 2 Dandy Warhols albums already today!
I quite like the song
Thank you by Jamelia
^this
I listen to a lot of music
most DiSers would find horrific - Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Destiny's Child etc. I'm not ashamed though!
paramore-riot
is a brilliant album.i listened to it on the way to work today :D
guilty pleasures
just means really good pop music usually and that is NOTHING to be ashamed of
Are Sugababes OK then?
Because Push The Button pumps my nads
yeah that song is fucking ace
:D
I win.
I wrote the sleevenotes to Embrace's b-sides compilation, and got thanked in their last album.
Embrace Rules, OK?
Not really, well actually I never heard them but if I do I'll think of you.
i never did get your embrace obsession.
it was pretty easy to dislike your reviews if i disagreed with you. "pah, what does he know? he likes embrace!"
Hahaha
I get the idea a lot of people took that stance. I still think they've written some terrific songs, and the second album is properly wicked start-to-finish.
the world cup one and the one they play a lot on MOTD2 is pap though, right?
The thing is...
I heard a demo of that when it was just an instrumental, and it had a wicked guitar sound and built to a big postrock-ey climax. And then hey did that to it. The guitar sound is almost still there. Missed opportunity. Bad decision...
Medulla has serious balls
I would NEVER have addmitted to liking those bands, that shows how insecure I am.
My hat's off the the boy!
fucking hell
Branca and Cage are immense! why would they be guilty pleasures, unless you hang around with stupid people...on the interweb...erm..
the rest are gash though (but fuck guilty pleasure, be loud and proud!)
Let's just say "Normal" people
that's just it, half the stuff I listen to I have to listen to in private or run the risk of scaring the "normal" innocent bystanders.
good
play chathams guitar trio at full volume. scare the shit out of them. ITS ONLY ONE CHORD YOU CUNTS!!! WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THAT.
they dont let me out very often
just, just.
-=sigh=-
I really do love Girls Aloud
Seen them once, want to see them again.
I love it when "Love Machine" comes on the shuffle between Cabaret Voltaire and Helmet.
Sarah Harding FTW.
wtf
girls aloud are top quality pop music i feel no shame whatsoever in liking them they are very good at what they do!
girls aloud
seem to be accepted and loved quite a bit by a lot of DiSers and other people you might horribly label 'indie'. I no i like them.
yeah
I'm quite proud of my love, but when everyone around you is going "OMG how?? HOW??" it does grate a bit.
Still want to see them end of May.
*something about how you should never feel guilty about liking certain music*
Except ska punk. You people are idiots.
and anime soundtracks
DIIIIIEEEEEEE.
DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE STOP VISITING THIS WEBSITE DIE
Die Die Die?
Nah, don't be embarrassed. They're great. Never heard Stop Visiting This Website though. Are they any good?
they're amazing.
harmonies like you wouldn't believe.
all of my...
mid-late 80's metal collection though I'm no ashamed of it all really.
i'd rather my teenage kids be listening to metal than pop-pap fo' sho' (n.b. I havent got any yet)
my guilty pleasure
gay against you (lots of it)
but...
why guilty? they're gr8. as are agaskodo teliverek, etc.
the cooler the 'guilty pleasure',
the cooler her ACTUAL taste must be.
rad.
expectations high:
inthread reply not forthcoming (?).
That "Do You Believe In Life After Love" song by Cher
ft-seriouslyembarrassing-w
why you ashamed of keiji?
currently pumping Red Hot Chili Peppers' "What Hits?!" loud and proud and most definitely righteous.
I have been listening to "Movies" by Alien Ant Farm
pretty much on repeat for the past few days.
It's a growing concern.
I have some more:
Orgy
Insane Clown Posse
Sevendust
...
What is there to feel guilty about? you either like something or you don't.
it aint a cool competition ;)
because
some music is just shit, and you really should know better.
I don't think everything you listen to has to have bizarre time signatures and consistently tread fresh ground, but i can wholly admit that ICP and Sevendust are musically pretty rotten, but i like them.
..
i kind of disagree. how can you think it's shit but still like it?
ICP
are definitely on my list of guilty pleasures, although Great Milenko is a cracker.
Also:
The Thrills - So Much For The City
Electric Soft Parade - Holes In The Wall
Cypress Hill - Skull & Bones (no shame in Black Sunday though)
MCR - Three Cheers
The Offspring - Americana
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose
i don't know...
lastfm really just scuppers any illusions of a *good* taste that i might have. but yeah, none really.
plus ABC are ace and i played the divinyls in my (one) dj set, and i probably will play them again. huzzah!
I have often wondered
about tracks given in the "first 5 songs on shuffle" posts; they rarely seem to contain tracks that many DISsers might consider guilty pleasures. I have never dared post mine as test shuffles have usually unearthed something sneer worthy!
Why ? !!!
Be proud of your taste in music ! Who gives a bugger about what some people on here think ?
Say it loud!
What I go to school for: Busted
I would do anything for love: Meat Loaf
World of our own: West Life
Look at me: Geri Halliwell
Barbie girl: Aqua
I feel much better now.
Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Girls Aloud
are three guiltyt pleasures that i have no problem with admitting and i explain how they are actually genuinly good and very much enjoyable.
Yeah, see? I envy you
you, harman_kardon, have guts. OK, I'm going to really go for it here: I went to a Haircut 100 gig in about 1982, that is all, it's all out there. Oh yeah and I used to love Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair, Steppenwolf, Bloodrock, Fleetwood Mac (the Bob Welsh line-up),CSN&Y and I thought Tom Cruise in "Risky Business" was a good look- 501's, topsiders(no sox), oxford long sleeve, lettermans jacket, ivy league haircut all topped off with black wayfarers.
Not forgetting...
N'sync, Backstreet boys and Christina Aguilera (especially Dirrty) I hang my head in pop shame.
Fishplums may have said it.
This thread was just a vehicle to show off my impeccable taste- which after forty years of picking winners I know I must have. But, I argue that I do actually have music that I feel compelled to listen to in private just so I can enjoy it without having to worry about it offending anyone or causing anyone to question my taste. Surly all of you have had someone come down on you for either what you are listening to or listening to too loud. "Turn it down please?" "Ah, gee, would you mind turning your music down?"" or "You actually call this music?" or worse yet, someone whom you consider to have good taste in music actually questioning what you are listening to. I myself try to remove myself from situations where I feel the environment has become polluted with music I can't stand. Usually, I wisely say nothing and just leave or bear it. Unfortunately, on occasion, on the DiS boards I have lashed out in negative diatribes against certain music. Yeah, I say listen with pride- but try not to offend bystanders cause it really is rude to impose your own taste on others. Music is powerful and I can't just tell people fuck off if they don't like it- it is, in a way, kind of aural rape in my book.
was chatting a lad i met the other week
