based on a comment by DanielKelly of being from egham fame, if you had to decide, which would you see, and also who are the bands in question?

hmmm

kenickie vs sonic youth.

I think sonic youth would win. Sleeper come in third.

erm

radiohead vs radiohead.altrhough to be honest i dont really have a favourite band i just have favourite albums.my favourite album is ok computer so its radiohead :)

that's the choice i found myself with

so i thought i'd ignore radiohead. i'm still trying to work it out.

Not hard

Feeder vs 65daysofstatic

.... well?

Oh its definitley still Feeder

LOLZOIDS!
65daysofstatic.

Radiohead vs Radiohead

So that one's pretty easy.

Hmmm.

Ash vs Daft Punk.

Not really a contest, is it? Oh, so young and foolish...

Led Zeppelin Vs

Led Zeppelin.
When I was much younger my favourite band were the Pet Shop Boys and I still really like them!

Manic Street Preachers vs Frank Turner

Frank tips it now as I was only really into The Holy Bible but then Bob Dylan tips them both as all time fav.

Radiohead vs Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Mr Cave takes it. But it was a photo-finish.

Linkin Park vs. Hope of the States

The latter, easily. And i've seen them 15 times and not seen Linkin Park once.

I can think of about 6 bands

who were each my favourite at various stages of being a teenager

And I'm not sure I have a favourite band now?

So it would be:

Soundgarden/Blur/Godflesh/Fugazi/Living Colour

fighting each other? My money would be on living colour. Muzz skillings would slay all-comers with his name alone.

5 is 'about' 6, yeah?

Alternatively, I accidentally dropped Pavement off the list. YOU DECIDE

Less Than Jake vs Down I Go

It's got to be Down I Go. They've got songs about dinosaurs and a botched space shuttle launch. All Less Than Jake sung about was smoking and Johnny Quest.

and BEER

obvs.
It was the best thing ever when they played "she's got a girl friend now" at the Astoria and used the GAY sign :)

that's Reel Big Fish!

EPIC SKA PUNK FAIL.

well, better to fail at ska

is what I always say :P.
History of a boring town, now there's a song - reminds me of my youth spent seeing Captain Everything live.

thinking a bit flippantly

its basically atdi vs atdi, with atdi winning.

Can't

No Doubt vs I don't have one anymore.

I used to just listen to Tragic Kingdom everyday.
Now I mostly listen to my 'recently added' playlist in itunes so it's different all the time.

Pixies Vs Bowie.

(said in MORTAL KOMBAT voice)

BOWIE WINS - not really, I love them both equally :)

Like 'thewarn'

I think I had a different favourite band for about every one of my teenage years.

13. The Offspring
14. The Offspring
15. Blink 182
16. NOFX
17. Coheed and Cambria
18. At The Drive-In
19. The Mars Volta

Then, as if by magic, when I get to 20, I lose the ability to define a favourite band of the year. It has to be broken down to favourite band of the day...

January 1...

And todays band is...

65 Days of Static.

Seeing as that was the actual point of the thread.

ok pantera vs the thermals

i think i'd go see pantera most likely, (well certainly) if only :'(

Pixies/Shins vs Sonic Youth

Never seen the Pixies, but I have seen the other two, and despite seeing SY more I would definitely rather see them again.

Pavement v Deerhunter

Very tricky one that. I Pavement would win. They could do a crowdpleaser or rarities set and they would still be full of surprises. So much quality material to choose from.

Cure Vs Lightning Bolt

Never seen Bolt and have seen the cure twice so it would be no contest, Lightning Bolt easily.

The Prodigy vs The Mars Volta

seen them both live loads. If i could choose the set, i'd go with TMV

PULP VS PULP

ARMAGEDDON!!!!

I'm still a teenager

do I count?

My favourite bands of my teen years:

13: RHCP
14: radiohead/rage against the machine
15: at the drive/mars volta/aphex twin
16: daniel johnston/elliott smith/tom waits/venetian snares
17: the smiths and more

But i like loads more music for gods sake believe me.

OH VERY FUNNY

THAT IS DEAD FUNNY

...

okay

what does this mean?

"But i like loads more music for gods sake believe me."

soundgarden vs ???

i don't really have a favourite band anymore. there's so much music available due to the internet that i don't know where to start sometimes and i don't really give albums the attention that i used to, my attention span has become shorter.

as a teen i'd say that soundgarden were my first favourite band. i used to watch mtv2 all day and i was down with the whole nu-metal and pop punk thing. when i was around 15 i saw the video for 'black hole sun' for the first time and i just thought that the sound and imagery was really cool. so i saved up and bought the discography. after that came the grunge obsession. listening to siamese dream lead me into a shoegaze. i had a deftones/tool phase and i was pretty into radiohead at somepoint.

listened to at the drive-in and it changed everything.

most of my friends at 6th form were into metalcore (which was huge in south wales at that point). that was a starter point for stuff like botch, d.e.p and stuff.

how i got from there to where i am now is anyones guess.

sorry for the life story, i have an essay to avoid!

weezer vs. weezer

or
queens of the stone age vs. queens of the stone age.

the world would die of awesomeness.

I'm unsure.

It's either a tedious Chumbawamba v Chumbawamba debate, which helps no-one. Or, for the purposes of trying to make it a fight, it's Suede v Elbow.

Elbow have won through SHEER NORTHERN GRIT.

and through being better

and amazing live and i neeeeeeed to see them again

and also through being underrated

(i hate using the word underrated but in this case you have to)

Ah, youth...

Radiohead vs the Dismemberment Plan.

Mainly because Emergency & I perfectly describes my life right now, and RH never did rock out as much as I'd hoped they would, the D Plan win.

when I was wee...

ATARI! TEENAGE! RIOT!

vs

The Fall

Mark E Smith wins.

Angry Teenager....jaded young adult

50% match

Pearl Jam vs The Dismemberment Plan

I never saw both bands play together despite The Plan supporting Pearl Jam on a tour eight years ago. It was about that time the transition occurred too.

I'm embarrassed about how much I used to like Pearl Jam now. Why don't they just break up and stop diluting their name?

im still youthful

mwahahahaha

Pretty obvious..

Linkin Park vs Arctic Monkeys.
I was fourteen, so yeah :'D

...

Nirvana vs Radiohead

I think Radiohead have got to win that one...

smashing pumpkins

vs smashing pumpkins.

my music taste really hasn't moved on.

Rage against the machine

V's Weezer....im keeping it oldskool!

Rage would destroy weezer.

fugazi vs Architect

just today though.

fugazi vs The Necks tomorrow.

i like to plan ahead

i saw bloodhound gang

last year, or the year before (quite recently anyway) and they were still kind of entertaining. Electric Eel Shock blew them off the stage though.

darn

i missed elecric eel shock on tuesday supporting POTUSA :(

bloodhound gang were great in 2000 though when i saw them :D

Pantera vs Jeffrey Lewis

Unless Dimebag was back from the dead I'd go see Jeffrey Lewis

The Doors Vs The Doors

It's a never ending love.

A toughy!

They Might be Giants vs Tunng...
I'll have to say TMBG for the sheer number of hours of geeky nasal pleasure they have provided!

.

smashing pumpkins were my favourite band of my youth, don't know what my favourite band is now but it was bright eyes for most recent years, if I could see 1995 pumpkins (billy with hair era)I would see them for old times sake and BE have lost it recently

The Libertines vs. Bright Eyes

I never got to see the Libs, but I have seen Bright Eyes... I think I'd still pick Conor - too much water's passed under the bridge with Pete and the gang...

Agreed

The Libertines became my favourite band when I first saw them support Supergrass aged 16. Now it just seems like an age ago.

For me:
Weezer/Libertines Vs. The Smiths

My progression has gone something like

Trail of Dead > Sonic Youth > Talking Heads > The Fall

Seen both T of D and The Fall. Suppose I'd most like to see Sonic Youth before they lose it completely.

Joy Division Vs The Fall

Joy Division.

This is ignoring Manic Street Preachers, who have unfortunately embossed themselves into my life from an early age forever more.

Smashing Pumpkins vs Daft Punk

I HAVE seen Daft Punk, and i'd see them again, and again. and again.. etc..

Therapy? Vs Jonathan Richaman

Richman takes it. just.

Incubus vs The Decemberists

Can't really compare the two. I havn't listned to Incubus in years though, but when I do it's a fond twinge on nostalgia.

Sonic Youth > The Fall

I have seen both live many times but would love to have seen the Fall live circa 82 with the Hex two drummers line up, alas.

Space vs Space

Space win!

Dexys / Broken Family Band

If its the 1981 Dexys then its a score draw.

........

oasis vs radiohead

radohead win..........

my favourite bands before I discovered the joys of indie

Metallica and the Pet Shop Boys. Still trying to work that one out. I must thank Blur and 'Leisure' for sorting me out!

what the hell is wrong

with the Pet Shop Boys?!

Less Than Jake Vs Pearl Jam

I've seen both twice. Based on Less Than Jake's recent offerings, and Pearl Jam's general aura of awesome, I'll go with the Washington boys.

Super Furry Animals Vs. Mew

Pool Panel Verdict: Score Draw

pools*

12/13 was Bon Jovi

though I also liked Nirvana (they clearly didn't have a radical effect on my tastes)

14/15: I didn't really have a favourite band, just grunge and pretty much any metal.
Later teens: I first heard Fugazi I think when I was 15/16. They have been my favourite band ever since.

So it is Bon Jovi vs Fugazi. Fugazi win, just.

My favourite band as a teenager...

is still my favourite band now!
Faith No More

Quality Thread.

I was last a teenager almost twenty years ago but out of Depeche Mode/Dead Kennedys/U2/ZZTop and Blue Oyster Cult it would be BOC that ruled the period.

These days Deerhoof are probably the band I'm most excited about.

Haven't seen Deerhoof yet so it's a clear win for them.

Err, I'm only sixteen but

It'd be Franz vs Radiohead

Radiohead would spin plates straight through Kapranos' well-groomed face. Still like them though.

a bit embarssing

12 blink 182
13 coldplay blink
14 coldplay blink linkin park
15 soad cold play blink
16 blink jimmy eat world
17 blink soad biffy clyro
18 brand new blink soad biffy clyro
19 radiohead brand new biffy clyro

U2 v Abominable Iron Sloth

U2 WERE good in the 80s...believe me!

Nirvana VS Beach Boys

Still listen to Nirvana loads but Beach Boys have to win.

Papa Roach Vs Radiohead

Would be an interesting fight!

Why would I rather see a band I preferred then

than a band I prefer now? SILLY QUESTION.

The Manics vs The Shins.

The Manics'd probably win in a fight.

yes...

the Wildhearts vs. Juno

tough one!

The Donnas vs Camille

DING DING!!!

The Donnas get it
if
they only play songs off their first four albums...which gives them plenty to work with.
