but at the same time i have nithing against the fact that he was defending himself although and lets face it the rest of the review is completely valid as musically they are garbage.
I like my music to give me a bit of escapism. Whether its listening to Frank Sinatra singing about some lovely romantic scene in Manhattan or something from Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.
I think singing about everyday life all the time suggests a bit of a lack of imagination. Its about rhyming and wit, and its often backed up by music which is pretty crap in itself, anyway.
I mean depending on how good a songwriter is they sing about everyday life in an imaginative way or they can sing escapist stuff with no imagination whatsoever.
I remember reading an article on the first arctics album and the journalist in question suggested the lyrics were to intelligent for a young northern lad.
This also happened to be the guardian. It is a annoying being from the north myself.
but check out the comment below it where someone says something about their racist mates leaving comments on their Myspace....sounds a bit dodgy to me.
Although they get fuckloads of comments per day by the looks of things so it would have sunk.
It seems an unfair way to judge 'em anyway - presumably anyone's open to leave comments on there and they can't necessarily help it if someone had left racist comments there (provided they deleted the comments when they did see them)
If it was by their close friends that'd be pretty bad but a) I'm not really clear on how this woman would know if they were and b) even so, that doesn't necessarily mean that they themselves are racist.
I mean it'd be bad if they tolerated racist comments but I'm not sure if she can necessarily call them racist as a result of racist comments by others on their page.
wont be long

Fair play to him.
That's an intelligent and reasonable way to respond to criticism.

I think its about time people stopped singing about LYF, on the whole, to be honest.

I see your point though...
I agree
with him about the snobbery of southern critics.

Well, that's okay.
I can get on with hating them for being a truly awful band then.
umm well its not exactly
"quality tunes! kick the immigrants out!"
just looked at their myspace page
every comment seems to affix 'lads' to every sentence.
"quality gig last night lads"
A fair response to the critiscm
