what a rubbish selection of music. gone are the days where a band actually looked excited on stage.
youthmovies - bollocks
dont see why they get so much hype on here.
a few others that made it look like such a chor to be there and play their shit music to a bunch of pissed kids. look alive people! maybe its the weather or something, but i was bored out of my mind.
Having said that:
eugene mcguinness- amazing
thats a star in the making.
£30 to see 4 bands? luckily i didn't pay and only won tickets but what a load of shit.
the way its marketed as a festival is ridiculous. the time schedule 4 slots for 15 different venues. so you get to choose one band out of every 15 or so to see.
With everyone in the smaller venues starting at the same time, you seem to spend the whole evening in queues or in empty rooms.
As for the bands
Death Cigarettes were amazing at Tommy Flynn's (which isnt even officially part of the Crawl)
Sam Sparro - sub Jamoroquai shit
Ipso Facto - Ok, but a bit heavy going.
Esser - excellent, but hampered by a bizarre sound mix
Kennedy - desperate and lost
Kid Fucking Harpoon
Make Model - Tedious jockery.
That last year there were slightly fewer venues and more timeslots. I seem to remember seeing five bands plus getting dinner in the middle of the night last year but it just wouldn't be possible this year.
Terrible and I doubt I'll be back next year. One of the security staff did say that it kicks off earlier today though.
but have attended SXSW a few times.
I think the major problem compared to SXSW is the majority of the venues are far too small for the amount of people attending the event.
You'll always be struggling to get in later in the evening and even when you do you'd end up near the back anyway.
I would have headed along if I had got a photo pass (which I didn't)but would have stuck to one venue by 9ish for the rest of the evening to make sure I caught the headliners I wanted to see.
weather was lush, i could afford the drinks, saw a lot of good bands... in fact the only downside was not having anywhere central to crash at 3am once we'd been kicked out of Koko.
last night
no great shakes
saw hadouken play in a music shop which was fun enough - moved on to ballroom to meet up with people - then nw1 for warmsley - koko for dioyy - purple turtle for post war years, lets wrestle and crystal castles.
left after that - fed up of queuing and looking at queues - worst band?...... let's wrestle
not going tonight but south central and slagsmk look like good ones

That makes driving 5 hours down and 5 hours back up to go to work on the same night all the more pleasurable.
