It's Lyle's annual Whipping Boy thread!

If it weren't for your threads and This Life, I would never have bought Heartworm and fallen in love so completely. It's one of those records that stops me wanting to hear anything else, for fear of disappointment. When We Were Young remains one of the greatest songs of the nineties.

Twinkle

acoustic version . Oh yes

oh yes

indeed

but ive lost my copy of it and no one has it on soulseek :(

everytime I listen to them

I ask myself :
why didn't they make it ?
why are big labels now signing shit bands like the Courteeners ?
How much great songs would they have released if they'd continued to make music ?

Didn't they make a minor comeback?

They gigged again for a bit a few years ago.

I wish they were still around now, though. Very fond Evening Session days when everything sounded ruddy amazing. They really do still piss all over indie bands of today.

Yes

they did make a small comeback.
Don't know if they're still playing or not...

Just checked the official site

Looks like they haven't been active since 2006, and then it was only in their native Ireland. Such a shame. More people should have appreciated them over in the UK really.

Agreed!

Was listening to Heartworm in the car earlier, love that album even after all these years.

Yes

this is one of this albums you can still listen again and again even 10 years after they were released...
Amazing from start to end.

ah thanks for reminding me lyle

heartworm is an absolute masterpiece

i'm less sold on the self titled album although it has some crackers such as "pat the almighty"

maybe there's a reason why they never released it...

It's good, very good, with a few ace songs... An album 99.9% of band would be proud of doing.
But it's not Heartworm !

maybe thats what split them

realising they'd blown their load on heartworm

there's an amazing clip on youtoob of them doing "we dont need nobody else" live that you linked to before

Replies?

What is this madness?!

wut ?

Cheers Lyle

Another great band ive never heard before who i can now get into. Recently did the same with Hefner...and that was incredible.

oh man, I love this band!!

Heartworm is an incredible album!! :)

We don't need nobody else

Definitely one of the best singles of the Nineties

t shirt

cause of this thread,im wearing very old,but still sexy whipping boy shirt.gonna socialize with it later, thanks.

Such an amazing band

I always get goosebumps listening to the album. Especially this bit from 'Personality':

The fantastic thing about the female is that she was
Put on this earth to be admired and adorned not
Abused, or so the Senator said, one night in
J.J. Smyths where all the punks had played and the
Jazz men have their day. While the cat was sitting
In the corner, sniffing out his 20%
A sniffing and a licking
A drinking and a thinking
About how his life was spent
And then he'd fly, fly into a rage
Because his mind became delayed
And he'd start accusing every one of us
That he'd been betrayed

check out this radio programme

got twinkle with fergal reciting a poem as the intro

http://briangreene.com/wxtc-29-03-2006.mp3

that's quite some poetry

They're new to me

but I'm liking this muchly!

Yeah !

God I love Heartworm

Haven't listened to it for ages (it's one of those records like Nevermind that I never play because I know every single note by heart so I never bother actually putting it on) but I will do so soon.

I love the way the songs will often lurch off on another tangent lyrically and musically - reminds me a bit of early Throwing Muses in that respect.

same for me ( apart from the nevermind part )

but I still play it at least once a year...

It is a magical album!

I couldn't listen to it for a while about 5 years ago as it was a soundtrack to a failed relationship and it brought up unwanted memories.

But gave it another spin a while ago and it still stands as one of my favourites ever!

One of the great lost records

Truly brilliant band.

I had..

One of their early singles, on Cheree, which I liked a lot. (quick google).
"I think I Miss You" EP. Does anybody have this, I'd love to hear it again.
