This was up on B3ta, and I thought a few people on here would like a look.

Turns out Albini is a poker hound, and posts on a forum; he invited questions about his career and indie in general. It's an interesting read.

yeah thats one long thread

i got about half way through last time i read it. Its funny that he reads bbv4life though, that forum is the cesspit of 2+2.

jeeees

that thread is huge! Got abgout a fifth of the way down in 40 mins!

He is definitely the nuts ain't he?!

interesting stuff

It gets very nerdy when he's listing a hundred bands I've never heard of, but the old is downloading bad argument:

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to think I'm supporting the bands, but I can't see how thousands of bands can live off of my measly $6 a month subscription. As a band member yourself, do you have an opinion on the subscription services versus, say, pay-per-song itunes?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are supporting the band by being a fan. Over the course of your life, you'll have many opportunities to buy records, Tee shirts, concert tickets and the like. Don't worry about your downloading/listening habits. The bands are happy that anyone is listening at all, and they will make a little money off you over time. They're glad they're in the game and that someone is listening.

no

they're worried about paying their bills

oh god i love steve albini

i'm not going to bed for a good long while now.

this was posted before

not a fan at all, absoloutley fascinating reading that killed my Friday n Saturday though.

There's a good bit where he states the records he's really proud of...

the Jesus Lizard-Goat
PJ Harvey- Rid of Me
the Breeders-Pod and Title TK
Nina Nastasia-the Blackened Air
Silkworm Lifestyle or Italian Platinum
Palace/Will Oldham Viva Last Blues or Arise Therefore

.

he posts on the electrical audio forum all day. can get quite interesting on there too.

isnt that the thread where its basically like

"why are these indie geeks here? this is a poker forum. he posts on the electrical audio forums all the time, so why dont they just go there?"

<3

This is really interesting, I'm going to have to favourite it or I'll waste my whole life on reading this thread...

Classic

Quote:
Not gay. Chicks listen to good music sometimes, too, you know.

Albini:
Not straight ones in my experience, no they don't. You are either a lesbian, a dude, or you don't really like good music. This is a fact proven with science and charts.

Quote:
Do you know if Arab on Radar have considered reforming? Did you ever do anything with them?

Albini:
Ah, you're from Providence. Okay. That explains everything. Forget what I said about the lesbian thing. You were probably just experimenting in college. But short hair looks good on skinny girls.

I love

the randomness of it all.

thanks for this,

i was reading through it aaaaaages ago and then lost the link.

he's definetly a card that albini!

TJought I'd glance at this

I've come out 2 hours later feeling disorientated and american.

Ah this is great.

I spent pretty much a whole evening reading it the first time I came across it. What a legend.

the big black tour diary linked in that thread is amazing

of Urge overkill is very amusing
