Besides a string of devestatingly beautiful songs, what remains of Ride?

Isn't Mark Gardner

playing with Oasis still? I only every once in a while pull out Nowhere. Going Blank Again and stuff is mediocre.

Didn't know

about the Oasis/Ride connection. Yeah, I only have "The Best Of Ride" so I can't testify as to the strength of the albums you mentioned, but I love Ride anyhoo. Kind of reminds me of the first Chamaeleons UK record- loved that one too.

I meant Charlatans UK , not Chamaeleons UK

and that record was "Some Friendly" which I liked a lot.

Andy Bell played

bass with Oasis, not Mark. Mark did some solo stuff but it wasn't particularly inspiring. I remember seeing him at the Spitz a few years ago. Japanese kids came over just for those gigs so there must an audience for a reformation. I'm sure it'll happen one day.

Ride were never mediocre. Well not the first few records anyway. I still remember hearing Vapour Trail for the first time, hunched over one earphone in a quad at school. I adored them.

listening to 0X4 now

goosebumps

Smile

which is the compilation of the first two EPs, Nowhere, and Today Forever EP are all indispensable.

I'd recommend, ney INSIST, you invest (or download) the entirety of all three.

I'm on the phone now

I actually had first one back in like 1992, the one with the wave on it, I got a "Nowhere" t-shirt off their website a while back, but I remember that the website offered little in the way of news at that time, and have heard no news elsewhere- till now.

even with the angelic vocals and guitars like church bells

my favorite player in Ride is the drummer

the vocals

and occasionally Stone Roses-ey drums do make them sound a little dated but when they were at their best - ie all of Nowhere - they were incredibly beautiful.

the bass

playing on that first album is awesome as well.

Loz Colbert...

is currently drumming with The Jesus and Mary Chain.

^ you-right

Wasn't Coachella offering Ride a bunch of dough to play?

I'm a mega-shoegaze fan... so when I say "mediocre" I mean better than most, eh. ;) But the first one is clearly the gem in Ride's discography.

I <3 Ride

x8

what?

Three pointing at I times eight?

good one.

yes

radiohead offered them a stack of cash

to reform and do an hour before them at thir oxford SOUTH PARK gig in what? '02? they are both oxford bands obv. how good would that have been??!

Cant see them reforming

whilst Andy Bell is picking up mega-cash in Oasis. But this will keep you going for a bit:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cxR9esyFnAM

One of the all time greats.

I love Ride...

if they reformed I genuinely wouldn't know what to do! I've still got a Leave them al behind tshirt I had since i was 9 - its still too big for me! :D

Still one of my favourite bands

just wish they hadn't made those last two albums.

I dont mind some of the stuff on those

although comparatively shit.

And

Seeing as Swervedriver have reformed, can someone please arrange some kind of "shoegazing" all dayer please?

Mark

has done some recording with Anton Newcombe!

Don't think they'll reform.

Anton Newcombe?

Where did you hear that? Sounds cool though! How does that effect Ride?
