As I don't know any fans of DeathCab, I want to know what everyone's faves are... Mine are:

1) 405
2) Expo '86
3) A move script ending
4) We Laugh indoors
5) Company calls
6) The Employment Pages (had to be added)

2)A Movie Script Ending
3)Transatlanticism

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

1. Title Track (We Have The Facts...)
2. Song For Kelly Huckaby
3. Why You'd Want To Live Here
4. Company Calls Epilogue
5. President Of What?

Gotta love the'Cab.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

For What Reason
Wait
Song for Kelly Hukaby
Lack of Color
The New Year

In no particular order.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Wait is a cover, I think. But that doesn't make it invalid.

1) Why You'd Want To Live Here
2) The Employment Pages
3) Expo '86
4) Fake Frowns
5) 405

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I've only got one album so this will be quite easy to do.

1) The New Year
2) The Sound of Settling
3) Expo '86
4) Transatlanticism
5) Title and Registration

I have to say I prefer The Postal Service. Gibbard is still one of the most amazing lyricists around at the moment.

Which Deathcab album should I get next???

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

RE: Forest.

I posted the exact same question a few months back. In my opinion, if you preferred the less poppy trakcs such as Title & Registration and Lightness, 'We Have the Facts' is better. If you prefer the ones a little poppier, like Expo 86 and The Sound of Settling, 'the Photo Album' is better (for stuff like Movie Script Ending and We Laugh Indoors).

The best thing to do though, just get both. I did, and I love them equally. I can't wait for the re-releases.

For me, the only weak track is 'Little Furry Bugs'. I'm not keen on 'the New Year' either, but I can see why you'd like it.

"I'm not keen on 'the New Year' either, but I can see why you'd like it."

Haha, you got me, I'm a sucker for the loud songs!

I will just get both, that way everyone's a winner, especially me, who will have both!!

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I need some guidance myself. I really want to be into the Postal Service, but the sample track on their page put me off.

Is it worth buying the album and taking the risk?

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Yeah, absolutely. If you enjoy the Death Cab lyrical content, then you'll pretty much adore The Postal Service. It might be a bit cloying at first, but it is actually really good.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

yes it most certainly is!

I dunno what the sample song is but Give Up is truly a brilliant album, and Ben Gibbard is on top form with his lyrics.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I really love The Photo Album - it's very minimalist in its sounds, unlike the fuller sound a lot of Transatlanticism, but still very much a 'pop' album. But what makes it really special for me are the lyrics, which in their own way do paint pictures and tell stories, making it come across as an actual photo album.

Pretentious-guff-ahoy!

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

It also has one of the loveliest opening tracks ever.

"i let you bum a smoke,
you quit this winter past.
i've tried twice before
but like this, it just will not last."

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Yep, it's a cover, but not one that I've heard the original of. Cool song anyway.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I have tried to find it; I think it's by Secret Stars, but I haven't seen it on the two records by them I have.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

The acoustic version of 405 has to be one of the best songs I have ever heard.

awesome stuff.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

ohh i have not heard that, where can i get my hands on it?

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

It's on the Forbidden Love EP.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I can't narrow it down :(

we looked like giants
passenger seat
405
company calls
wait
title track
steadier footing
blacking out the friction
transatlanticism
tiny vessels
no joy in mudville {the first half}

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Gah, this is tough. But such is my addiction to making lists:

1. Company Call Epilogue
2. Photobooth
3. A Lack of Colour
4. For What Reason
5. Bend To Squares

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

never...heard...them *sprints*

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Love them sooo much, am really desperate for them to come here so I can see them:

Why You'd Want to Live Here
Song for Kelly Huckaby
Sound of Settling
Blacking Out the Friction
Styrofoam Plates

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I saw them last year at ULU, but the sound was rubbish so you couldn't hear the vocals properly. That really annoyed me at the time as I'd waited for years for the chance to see them play.

I imagine they'll be playing bigger venues when they come back next time so maybe the sound will be better.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Yeah, I was at that gig too {how awful were the Cribs?} and I agree with you about the sound. Erk. I hope they come back over soon seeing as they cancelled those dates last december, but I don't see it happening for a while seeing as they're concentrating on the new record and all that. Gah.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Death Cab were supported by the Cribs!? Wow, that sounds like my kind of gig.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

yep, and youthmovie soundtrack strategies.
the cribs singer stripped to his underwear, it wasn't a pretty sight.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

Loads of people say there's something about airplanes is the best one, anyone heard it? i can never find it over here.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

I bought it on import, but I think it's being re-released or has been already. I don't think it's their best but it's worth getting.

Re: Five Favourite DeathCab songs?

It is pretty good, but they clearly didn't know what the hell they wanted to sound like at that point... the production is all murky and crappy, but some of the songs are good.
