Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Just got back from day three of the Wireless Festival. Compared to New Order day last Friday, today was BUSY! Absolutely loads of people there, massive queues for beer, and the main stage was packed for most of the day. Having said, the sun was out, and the 2 tents weren't as busy as they should have been.

She Wants Revenge: Excellent. Difficult to describe, but imagine a bunch of americans doing a dark version of Interpol, mixed with Siouxsie & The Banshees, but with a few dancey numbers.

Echo & The Bunnymen: Fantastic. Bloody marvellous! Have loved them for donkeys years, but have never seen live until today. They played loads of old stuff, and the sound from the stage was superb. Mac's voice was spot on, and everything about the set was perfect. The Cutter and Bring on The Dancing Horses were definite highlights.

Engineers: Excellent. Very mesmerizing stuff. The stage manager was getting annoyed, as the band got into a groove and overran by 5 minutes. The band clearly loved every minute, and rightly so.

Walked out into the sunshine, only to hear James Blunt covering Pixies' Where Is My Mind! Bloomin marvellous version too! So I stuck around for a second song, his hit, and it was just great! I may live to regret saying that, but there was a great atmosphere in the park, and he deserved his excellent audience response.

Brendan Benson - good, but jury is still out. Had only heard 'You're Quiet' before, which played very well today. The other stuff was catchy, but it made me yearn for Teenage Fanclub. I'm a sucker for harmonies, and I'd think I'd rather hear the Scots do it better.

Supergrass - OK, but nothing special. Watched 20 minutes - but an odd audience. They all had their picnic blankets out, with packets of ritz crackers and bucks fizz drinks. When the band played Pumping in the Stereo, you wanted a mosh pit, but instead got polite clapping. Don't get me wrong, everyone there loved the performance, but it was a bit subdued.

Secret Machines - popped in to see one song, and it sounded feckin t'rffic. Great to see the drums on the left on the stage, instead of in the middle. I saw the Stills last summer, and their similar stage set-up really caught my eye. I just think this repositioning really brings the band together on stage.

Didn't have the heart to stay for Keane.

Ladytron and Editors tomorrow. Who-hoo!

Wireless is turning out to be a pleasant surprise. I've been to 2 days of it so far, and despite the talk of poor ticket sales, I hope it returns. There were still stacks of people queuing to get in when I left at 8.30pm, and I do think today will be pretty much near capacity.

"James Blunt covering Pixies' Where Is My Mind"

*buys a gun*

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Honestly, I was shocked too. It was good!

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

*buys two guns*

*or rather, an extra bullet for the first gun*

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Blunt is the new messiah.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Blunt is a fucking travesty. Your taste sucks.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Let's make a pact, Clunt dies tonight.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

He sleeps with the fishes.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

NO WAY DID CLUNT COVER THE PIXIES.

Some anthrax fanmail coming his way I think.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Apparently he did it at glastonbury as well. Not that i'd no, as i'd rather have my dick cut off than listen to clunt...

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Except.....the fishes would realise it was old Clunty boy and fuck off, in case he started up with that generic, 'emotive' warble that sounds like a cat in a blender.

So, he sleeps with inanimate objects at the bottom of the sea?

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

I just gave him a profile. Go forth and give zeros.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

zeros? ZEROS?????

Isn't it about time minus figures were introduced?

Pah! I've zeroed the mutha fucka.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

I can't believe he raped a pixies song, twice, in front of thousands of people. Can he be prosecuted?

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Hahaha, please change his name to Clunt, or add clunt somewhere in the profile.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

He's soooo much better than the Pixies though. He can do one of their songs, and there's only one of him. I wish I was James Crunt.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

no. but he can (and will) be persecuted.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

I think Matt said the new spangly DiS will have ratings from -5 to +5 to make hatred more apperent.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

That's more like it. minus fiving Clunt would be far more satisfactory. For now the fact that his profile is "Busker in the "bigtime". clunt" is enough *high fives JB*

As an aside....I had to walk around shouting "Clunt" at Galsto just to block out the sound of him bleating from the Pyramid Stage. Pft. Clunt.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Hahaha, People must have thought you had Tourette's!

Clunt onset Tourette's, could happen...

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

You would expect the Wireless people to like Clunt though. It's a festival for people who like the idea of a music festival but can't be bothered to go to one of the real ones. A music festival for people who don't like music.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

The name of Clunt is spreading, everyone I know now refers to him as James Clunt.

I was seriously tempted to pay him a visit at glasto purely to heckle him.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

brrr... I know what you mean. Ive had the misfortune of seeing this guy twice by accident in recent weeks and he is AWFUL - the second time confirmed it. go away james blunt, go away and hang out with Jamie Jazz Covers.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

Today, Colin, Mike Diver & co. drank Spitfire and watched some bands.

Martha Wainwright was actually amazing. Rufus came on for the most beautiful duet.

The rest was dull.

Re: Wireless Fest. Day Three thoughts / REVIEW

The Rufus duet was ace.

OK...

.... so a fair few months has passed since I wrote those immortal words: James Blunt was good.

In hindsight, how could I have known the damage that would cause.

At least he's seemingly faded in the distance already.

Now is it OK to fancy KT Tunstall?
