Just got back from day three of the Wireless Festival. Compared to New Order day last Friday, today was BUSY! Absolutely loads of people there, massive queues for beer, and the main stage was packed for most of the day. Having said, the sun was out, and the 2 tents weren't as busy as they should have been.
She Wants Revenge: Excellent. Difficult to describe, but imagine a bunch of americans doing a dark version of Interpol, mixed with Siouxsie & The Banshees, but with a few dancey numbers.
Echo & The Bunnymen: Fantastic. Bloody marvellous! Have loved them for donkeys years, but have never seen live until today. They played loads of old stuff, and the sound from the stage was superb. Mac's voice was spot on, and everything about the set was perfect. The Cutter and Bring on The Dancing Horses were definite highlights.
Engineers: Excellent. Very mesmerizing stuff. The stage manager was getting annoyed, as the band got into a groove and overran by 5 minutes. The band clearly loved every minute, and rightly so.
Walked out into the sunshine, only to hear James Blunt covering Pixies' Where Is My Mind! Bloomin marvellous version too! So I stuck around for a second song, his hit, and it was just great! I may live to regret saying that, but there was a great atmosphere in the park, and he deserved his excellent audience response.
Brendan Benson - good, but jury is still out. Had only heard 'You're Quiet' before, which played very well today. The other stuff was catchy, but it made me yearn for Teenage Fanclub. I'm a sucker for harmonies, and I'd think I'd rather hear the Scots do it better.
Supergrass - OK, but nothing special. Watched 20 minutes - but an odd audience. They all had their picnic blankets out, with packets of ritz crackers and bucks fizz drinks. When the band played Pumping in the Stereo, you wanted a mosh pit, but instead got polite clapping. Don't get me wrong, everyone there loved the performance, but it was a bit subdued.
Secret Machines - popped in to see one song, and it sounded feckin t'rffic. Great to see the drums on the left on the stage, instead of in the middle. I saw the Stills last summer, and their similar stage set-up really caught my eye. I just think this repositioning really brings the band together on stage.
Didn't have the heart to stay for Keane.
Ladytron and Editors tomorrow. Who-hoo!
Wireless is turning out to be a pleasant surprise. I've been to 2 days of it so far, and despite the talk of poor ticket sales, I hope it returns. There were still stacks of people queuing to get in when I left at 8.30pm, and I do think today will be pretty much near capacity.

As an aside....I had to walk around shouting "Clunt" at Galsto just to block out the sound of him bleating from the Pyramid Stage. Pft. Clunt.

Clunt onset Tourette's, could happen...

Martha Wainwright was actually amazing. Rufus came on for the most beautiful duet.
The rest was dull.

OK...
.... so a fair few months has passed since I wrote those immortal words: James Blunt was good.
In hindsight, how could I have known the damage that would cause.
At least he's seemingly faded in the distance already.
Now is it OK to fancy KT Tunstall?
