is the best pavement album as far as im concerned. its not really got much in the way of weak links, and some of the songs are awesome.
i played it to a couple of metalheads the other day when we were fooked, and it went down a treat

Great songs
bad album.
?
^^^^^ ?
surely a collection of great songs makes a great album
No
That was what everyone thought in the britpop years when every album sounded like a shine compilation.
!
I would agree to some extent
It has some brilliant songs on it but doesn't work as well as a whole as an album, like CR,CR or S&E. It's similar to terror twilight in that respect.
Wouldn't go as far as saying it is a bad album though, just not their best.
oh i see
how wrong i was
i hadnt realised that the expectations set by 90s britpop had clouded my musical perception so much
thanks for enlightening me!
Dont get your panties in a crunch
Wowee Zowee has plenty of songs "worse" than, say, Stereo/Shady Lane/Date With Ikea, but is a way better album.
BTC is like a handful of really good singles, rather than a really good album.
'worse' ??
that surely implies that these songs are no good? when surely they are ace, no?
type slowly, transport, fin etc. all ace
Worse doesnt imply no good
get a dictionary.
Winning ten million quid would be worse than winning eleven million quid.
Here ends the english lesson.
So in this case
you would rather win the ten million quid than the eleven just because it was in convenient cheque form? Or something...
BTC
has Fin on it.
Therefore, it also has the guitar work and lyrics of Fin on it.
Therefore, it is majestic.
there was a thread
a few months back about top 5 pavement albums, personally I'm with you Brighten is my fav.
^^
This.
I feel dirty for saying it
but 'Date with Ikea' and 'Passat Dream' are awful. 'Blue Hawaiian' and 'Infinite Spark/Fin' are amazing though. AMAZING.
Anyone familiar with the bluegrass b-side version of 'Type Slowly' called 'Slowly Typed'. Brillo.
Surely this is due reduxe treatment round about now?
Don't feel dirty.
These two Spiral songs are pretty crap.
it is amazing
but not the best in my opinion.
brighten the corners
is my least favourite by quite a long way, blandest pavement album surely...
reissue this year
yes indeedy
blandest?
terror twilight fills that for me completely, fucking awful album. BTC is possibly their most accessible album, which could be as close as they got to selling out in theory (apart from cut your hair obviously)
^^^^^^^^^^^^
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Have never agreed more amyblue. Hated terror twilight (which is 4 singles and a load of wank apart) whereas btc is their most pop.
Speak See Remember
is beautiful.
But then sometimes a wank can be beautiful.
.
slanted and enchanted>crooked rain croked rain>>>>>>>>brighten the corners>terror twighlight>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>wowee zowee
^^: not really
S&E > CR, CR > WZ >> BTC = TT
Personally,
I never considered one Pavement album to be listenable, but each album has some excellent songs.
The only thing I can put on in full is Watery Domestic, probably because it's short.
i like btc
but i dont think it is as good as crcr, you can tell that they are distracted and a little played out by btc...
The correct order of goodness is
Wowee Zowee
Slanted
Crooked rain
Terror Twilight
BTC
Westing
it has four of their absolute best songs on it
in the form of Shady Lane, Stereo, Fin and Date With Ikea. But it's REALLY not a consistent album.
What Is Fin?
I have Brighten The Corners on vinyl and CD and I dont know this track?
Anyway it's the forth best Pavement album, still good but not going to beat the 3 previous releases.
It is of course infinetly better than Terror Twilight
Damn I thought there was a Pavement track I had yet to discover
turns out Fin is the US title for Infinite Spark, oh well I will have to wait for the reissue
Old to begin
Favourite Pavement song.
CR,CR is still a bit better in the album stakes though.
BTC has my favoutite Malkmus lyric on it
"I wandered through the wilderness with nothing but a compass and a canteen, setting the scene."
But the record does have a bit of an FM radio sheen on it, which I personally dislike, as I prefer the more abrasive and unconventional sound of their earlier records (Perfect Sound Forever & Slanted/Enchanted).
...
pavement never made a bad album. but btc isnt the one i tend to pick up the most... but that just makes it all the better when i do listen to it.
btw hello, this is my first post
Hello!
um, nothing else to say...
welcome to our happy fold.
