Bands with none of the original members

In light of the shocking news that two of the pippettes have quit and been replaced with two members of the sugababes meaning none of the original members now remain, I was moved to consider other bands who a similar fate has befallen and could think of only Napalm Death.

The Death's first album effectively consisted of two different bands who only shared the same drummer. The side two band went on to become the classic ND lineup and the drummer Mick Harris eventually quit.

Anyone care to add any more and the amusing anecdotes behind the change?

remember the movielife?

they've all been replaced, set your goals is now vinnie whatever's backing band, I believe.

Dillinger Escape Plan

Now have no original members. It shows too as they are now fucking dire.

I thought the guitarist

Ben was in them from the start?

Good point

they are still rubbish though.

Not really.

'Ire Works' is fab.

Yeah Ben Weinman is a founding member

And writes all of the music as far as I'm aware, so it's not really a big deal. Although it is a shame Chris Pennie left.

...

Except that not only is Ben Weinmann an original member, but he writes the music as well.

And also: Everything they do pisses all over everything they did before. This is trut so pure.

Nah

Miss Machine and Ire Works are monumental fail. Greg Puciato ruined them.

Chalk another one up for

new DEP > old DEP.

Hmmm

New DEP = Old DEP. They have always been amazing.

Though DEP + Mike Patton > EVERYTHING.

I found out about this earlier today (just posted a thread about it)

It's only really a one off thing though I think, Set Your Goals obviously being Movielife fans and just doing it for a laugh. I've got tickets to the UK shows, I'm really excited about it. Vinnie's still doing I Am The Avalanche as a main project as far as I'm aware.

Manchester United

Zao

and Hopesfall, who have now 'split' or just don't play under that name anymore.

split

but despite having no original members still managed to be consistently awesome. a shame they didn't get to tour here one last time.

Agreed.

I'm probably the only one in the world that enjoyed A Types, and Magnetic North was brilliant.

Deerhoof are pretty close

were it not for their drummer.

Fairport Convention

... although I notice that original singer Judy "no it wasn't Sandy Denny look it up there you owe me a tenner" Dyble is still gigging, and indeed playing at the Lynton and Lynmouth Festerval in June, which is very close to my weekend residence so I'm quite excited about that.

Misfits?

Possibly? I don't really know.

Black Flag

If it wern't for Greg Ginn

There's all the

Motown Drifters/Four Tops-style acts doing the cabaret circuit. And the Velvet Underground's last album which everyone ignores was made with no original members.

dunno if it counts but...

what about the velvet underground album 'squeeze', which was basically just a doug yule solo album under the v.u. name?

i hate when unoriginal members of bands continue the band after the originators have long left. they always come across as glory grabbing fame hounds in my eyes, just looking to ride the fame/notoriety of that band for their own personal gain.

All those Motown bands.

They all tour without ANY of their original lineups. Temptations etc. But they're so crap anyway so it doesnt matter.

The Chariot comes fairly close

they have changed every single member of their line up, aside from their lead singer.

the Vandals...

Joe Escalante is the one remaining member of the pre-'85 line up, and he was a replacement of the original drummer.. (he now plays bass) They've had all sorts of legal shenanigans regarding copyright of late...

guns and roses...

...almost

pagan wanderer lu

was originally me and john brainlove

Menudo!

They're a Latino boyband that's been going about 30 years. Whenever one of the members reaches their 16th birthday, gets too tall or their voice changes they get kicked out and replaced.

well,

i have regular arguments over this particualar band and why they SHOULDN'T be called what they are....

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band still peddle their wares even though the sensational alex harvey died approx 1986 IIRC

now, if he wasn;t the vocalist i can imagine the band achieving continuity however he was and very distinctive one at that... so they cant and shouldn't!

IMHO

Soft Machine?

Do they still exist? They definitely had no original members up until their last album. They've been through about 30 lineup changes.

The Fall...

...if it wasn't for Mark E Smith. But then, it wouldn't be The Fall.

BY the way, did anyone read these excerpts from MES's forthcoming biog? Very amusing.
