The glory days of 2005/6 were my favourite period.
FAVOURITE PERIOD???? WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT??? IT'S A DICKING INTERNET FORUM, NOT POST-IMPRESSIONISM!!!
But yeah, various funny/intelligent people have either left or don't post as much. Circle-jerking also seems to be going through a revival at the moment, which is a bit pathetic.
- It's too slow at lunchtimes. And when you get there things don't seem to have moved on from the night before.
I like some of the new users, they make me giggle.
My workload has increased 50% in the last two months, so I rarely get time to look during the day - but if it takes over a minute to load one page when I do get a chance while eating at my desk, I can't be too much arsed anyway.
- massive adverts
- rubbish design and it is slow and unreliable (neither of which ever get sorted)
- less intelligent threads (whatever people say about GG at least he often provokes people to debate things)
- seems to be more dominated by a smaller number of people, and they aren't the funny people that used to dominate the site
- I still quite like it though
I read this for about a year, and I have to admit it was more entertaining before I joined. But I'm not blaming that on the new posters, including myself! I hear about these nostalgia days, but I don't remember the name of anyone I read before I actually posted myself (as much as I enjoyed reading their posts). It's all relative - once there's a new set of in-jokes on the board, the past won't seem that memorable.
People leave because they get bored, right? Happens.
I've recently seen some of the infamous (jeez louise!) threads revived, and wtf? It's all in-jokes! Even though there are defo NEWER posters I don't get, they have developed their annoying tics which in the long run will probably serve them well.
Even GG's threads in perspective are pretty one-track - his contribution elsewhere is general hectoring. He never surprises me, but yeah, fair enough, there's no other outspoken right-wing person on here, which will always make him more interesting.
I'm relatively new as a regular and I tend to just waste time on here posing pointless posts about girls at bus-stops etc.
The thing is I used to cause a little debate on here but only because I was an immature prick, I may not be as interesting (on these forums, not in real life) as I used to be but I prefer not pissing people off for no real reason.
you sound like david brent after his failed attempt to impress the swindon lot in the office... "the best people didn't turn up" WHATEVER. Are you saying you need these so called 'best' people to have a conversation?
And besides there are no universal "better people" we're a diverse bunch and obviously have our differences. I know that my favourite users wont be the same as someone elses, it sounds as though this person just wants his bum buddies back.
i think the problem is thus: every single topic of interest has been covered a million billion times before, as have the topics of almost no interest. So users who've been here for more than a few months have seen it all before. At least the social board has a vast number of topics to cover so can remain fairly fresh whilst having mass appeal. The only thing which can do this for the music board are recent newsworthy stories (which tend to boil down to "illegal downloading - yay or nay?") and recent large scale releases (where discussion has become fragmented between early adopters with nothing much to say and later commenters who've missed the interest train)
There are very few threads on the music board that interest me anymore, unless I'm just asking for recommendations. The more debate-tinged threads are hardly original.
this is exactly what is wrong - basically nothing. Apart from the obvious weekly thread on Weezer/Interpol/Editors/Radiohead and recommendations and Jags, it is pretty cyclical.
The Social board is quite fun, especially at the weekend at nights.
that reminds me of one of my favourite threads from my lurking days where everyone made their own clips using that site and posted them up. Someone find it!!
I left
and it was curtains from thereon in
It's definitely not as good as it used to be.
I think it's a combination of factors:
1) A lot of good people have left.
2) A lot of rubbish people have joined.
3) THE ROLLOVER/POP-UP ADVERTS.
4) Sean's obsession with George Pringle.
5) The creeping corporatism of the site.
6) Immigration
7) Stealth taxes
8) Routemasters
AMIRIGHT?!
You are, at times, one of my favourite people on here.
Now is one of those times.
...
6) The site is often really, really slow.
YES YES YES YES!
7) Not enough sadpunk
8) thewarn got thewarning
9) Not enough cat pictures
10) Not enough Faildogs.
And a partridge in a pear tree.

?
YES YES YES YES!
Whingeing threads are part of the problem
Let's have a repetitive joke thread!
Dunno about the content but
that adserver thing is getting right on my tits!
I'm still here
The Bob Marshall Andrews of the site LOOOOLS
I've only posted regularly for a year
but was a lurker for about 2 years before that. Its not better or worse, nostalgia has just kicked in with some of the more established posters.
That said, the adverts, refrsh thing and ridiculous slowness are all reet shite.
I am new.
I would like to think I am okay.
I think the adverts are annoying.
I find it annoying that there are DiS franchises opening up everywhere.
Importantly - it is all relative. "In my day..." threads are annoying.
PS: I lurked here for years before joining. kthnxbai
YOUR SITE IS HELPING ME A LOT.

i've only been here 6 months
maybe i caused the downfall (i doubt i had a big enough impact)
^ same here
my user number may be among the lowest, but i've only been regularly here since november
same here
I like to think I'm alright. Maybe.
^
:(
({)
something about going down on people in cybergames
Yeah but what can you do
It's just a message board innit. Gte on with life. Read a book. Or maybe, in my case certainly, actually do some work
The slowness surely kills it..
... the new coloured scheme also makes it a bit more tricky to get away with using at work. But mostly it's the slowness.
I'm not affected by the ads as they are blocked at work.
i agree with the colour scheme
and slowness
and shit newer users
and stuff
I'm shit and new!
Hi!
hey!
it still has its good days.
it's not been a great week yet tbh.
It's got shitter

You're my favourite.
I'm my favourite.
Consider
my circle jerked.
no, consider my circle, Jerk!
Consider a circle of Beef Jerky?
i have, and now i want to go to the beef jerky stand at the reading ale fest
I wish someone would Circle-jerk me :(
oh wait....this is now a whining post
Personally speaking
- It's too slow at lunchtimes. And when you get there things don't seem to have moved on from the night before.
I like some of the new users, they make me giggle.

Shame. I get less LOLs a day now.
too fucking narrow
- massive adverts

Thanks a lot!

secondly...
I've recently seen some of the infamous (jeez louise!) threads revived, and wtf? It's all in-jokes! Even though there are defo NEWER posters I don't get, they have developed their annoying tics which in the long run will probably serve them well.

pretty much
most of the defining characters have gone
Somone clarify
Am I shit new user or just a shit user now?
You're the shit!
NO NO NO NO
We could have done a joke about me using shit for some WACKY, KERAZZY reason!
You use shit!!!!!!
HOW WACKY AM I????
You're inZane!
With a Zed.
pretty much.
after the new colour scheme.
oh god.
Frankly, how DIS could have been any fucking good
before I joined is beyond me.
Yes
I asume some people on here think I'm partly responsible for this.
^ Ignore this post.
ok, consider it ignored.
:)
^
This for me too.
This one time
I ate some cheese and it made me have a bad dream and everyone hated my dream.
I am never eating cheese again and now everyone hates me for not liking cheese.
all the best people have left??
you sound like david brent after his failed attempt to impress the swindon lot in the office... "the best people didn't turn up" WHATEVER. Are you saying you need these so called 'best' people to have a conversation?
to some extent, yes.
What if all the shit new people try harder to be less shit?
Could that work?
Come on new shit people - be less shit.
BE LESS SHIT
BE LESS SHIT
come on, say it with me
BE LESS SHIT
etc
You know when people try too hard to be funny?
it doesnt work and would make the forum more shit
That's so ironic.
There I was trying so hard to make the forum less shit and yet...
Haha
that just made me smile, if it's any redemption.
Is there a definitive guide to the ultimate DiSer?
Maybe you should compile one.
^This
And besides there are no universal "better people" we're a diverse bunch and obviously have our differences. I know that my favourite users wont be the same as someone elses, it sounds as though this person just wants his bum buddies back.
*or her bum buddies back.
Don't want to asume now do we.
"you sound like david brent"
that was my immediate thought too. whoops
It's all subjective
the user base seems to be getting younger and more disorientated.
Personaly I blame the drugs
i blame skins
*Foals off Skins
Who said that?
Where am I?
So- what is the definive 'golden era' of DiS?
Lack of Alex MAck content
is slowly strangling this site
...

http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3197404
i blame it on
a lack of threads about stuff that gets on peoples tits.
And wankers like me posting. Who do i think i am?
this^
Yeah, who do I think I am?
The adverts don't affect my computer
The promotion of untalented musicians
Don't remember the 'golden' days despite lurking for a year
in terms of the music board (my yard)
i think the problem is thus: every single topic of interest has been covered a million billion times before, as have the topics of almost no interest. So users who've been here for more than a few months have seen it all before. At least the social board has a vast number of topics to cover so can remain fairly fresh whilst having mass appeal. I think this probably hits the nail
on the head. I've been here less than a year (I think) and the same ol' threads keep coming round and round.
That said, that's what happens with forums. If you're getting bored it may just be time to move on.
Incredibly
this is exactly what is wrong - basically nothing. Apart from the obvious weekly thread on Weezer/Interpol/Editors/Radiohead and recommendations and Jags, it is pretty cyclical.
The Social board is quite fun, especially at the weekend at nights.
i'm a weekend and night-shifter
yey! 'cause i have no life in germany!! any extended abscence is from a trip home generally. when i move back i won't quit 'cause i'm quite addicted.
DiS can be brilliant at night
by the same token it can be poor, night time is much better then day time most of the time nowa days, used to be the reverse.
you must have missed this:

Ha ha ah ah ha
Are you new?
I fucking love you.
