here's the situation: about a week ago i started having a problem with my CD player (which had been slightly temperamental beforehand) where sometimes it would be fine and sometimes brand new CDs would skip uncontrollably. So i got one of those lens cleaner CDs with tiny little brushes, used it a couple of times, and everything seems fine. But now everything skips forward uncontrollably
Is this something which can be fixed? Anybody have any recommendations of products which could solve the issue? I REALLY don't want to have to buy a brand new system at this moment in time
This happened to me recently
and like you I figured my lens needed cleaning. But instead of buying a kit, I just just sort of mashed it with my finger and a teatowel, and now it works fine.
~shrug~
I love it when you talk technical
Lens re-alignment. £25.
Doing it yourself with your finger and a tea towel? Priceless
i think i'll put that in the pile labelled "last resorts"
is it preparing for a boxing match?
GROAN
i have this with my lesser quality system;
use the lens cleaner about 10 times in a row and it ought to do the trick. If not then i do believe your player is gubbed.
i might have to try the 10 times in a row thing
althought the lens looks sparklingly clean from where i'm standing
the fact of the matter is this: my CD player is about 15 years old. I think it might have outlived all expectations
Laser Lens problem
have you tried just wiping the lens (if you can see it) with something soft and clean? Then there is the boxing match approach.
Laser alignment??...
It could be just that your laser has drifted out of focus/alignment. This happened to our 8 year old system. It was just not reading some cd's, old or new.
We'd been told it was the laser that was goosed and it would cost XX pounds to replace and hence not be worth it. But, being the electronic engineers me and the missus are we thought we'd have a go at finding out what was up.
We had a scout round the net and found a few bits about adjusting the laser on old cd players. To get it back to normal we simply had to tweak the small screw on the side of the laser. This controls a variable resistor which adjusts the laser. It didn't need much, well under a quarter turn, but it fixed it.
It then continued to work perfect for the next 3 years and now its doing it again. Soon as I can be arsed I'll open the thing up and try again. It can be a real pain to get to but its worth a try before you buy a new system. don't be afraid, give it a go! Then again that might not be the problem....
that sounds way out of reach of my skill levels
maybe if i just jiggle the lasery bit about it'll have a similiar effect
in other news: it's been working well for the past 2 CDs, so it might have all been a big hoo-haa about nothing (MASSIVE TOUCHWOOD)
