for delay

i recommend a Line 6 echo park. really nice. i cant afford one though....

otherwise keep an eye out on ebay for the old Boss Models

DD 5
DD 2
DSD 3

.

im a huge fan of the deluxe memory man, I love how it warbles and goes hazy as it fades out, but if money were no object id get a diamond memory lane. If you want digital delay go for a boss or line 6's delay modeler.

Other good pedals, the verbzilla is great it has cave reverb which sounds incredible and octo reverb which pitchshifts the reveb up an octave for added etherealness, distortion wise the danelectro dd1 is the most extreme wall of sound distortion ive heard, get a rat if you want something more standard/flexible

ive become kinda geeky about pedals recently

boss dd6

it sounds quite digital but i really love it.
and the akai headrush is good - it has a looping function that's really usable.

boss DD-3 or DD-6

though if yr interested i have a Line 6 Echo Park delay pedal that i got sent in error by digital village which i forgot to send back and want to sell, so PM me if yr interested.

i play

into a japanese boss dsd-3 (basically the same as a dd-3, but this goes for much less than a japanese dd-3) with which i fiddled with the internal trimpots to get a longer delay time and (more importantly) a grainier sound. neat. then that goes into an akai headrush which i use for when i want more rhythmically locked repeats.

i would fully recommend both. they're both very competitive in their price range.

other than that, i think the echo park is pretty decent, and is one of the few pedals that has a decent tap tempo without resorting to two footswitches. the de-7 is also pretty cool as a cheap delay that does a decent analog emulation.

I just bought a Boss DD-6 two weeks ago

Haven't quite figured out how to use the reverse feature but it is so cool that I and the quitar player each have one.
$240.00

Stay away from multi effects modules, they seem cool but they aren't. I play bass and I think I have the only multe that's worth anything: Boss ME-508 Bass Multi-Effects
ELECTRO-HARMONIX
Electro-Harmonix-Check out pedals from this company. I have "The Wiggler" which is a wacky Tremolo pedal. also Little Big Muff (distortion), Electric Mistress (very cool Flanger/Chorus pedal) and Small Stone Phase Shifter.
Z-VEX EFFECTS:
ZVEX- Created by Zachary Vex, the mad scientist of EFX. Go to their website and download the demos.
http://zvex.com/effects.html click on demo videos.
I have Z-VEX's Wooly Mammoth (a killer bass fuzz pedal), guitarist has "The Fuzz Factory" They are considered art pieces cause they're handpainted but you can get "Made In Japan" ones called VEXTER SERIES for much less.

Wah Peddles: a must. Dunlop Cry Baby Classic is the most popular- don't get the bass wah though. I use the expression pedal on my ME-508

A friend of mine went to NAMM last winter and saw some cool pedals made by
SUB DECAY but haven't checked those out, you might though.

Electroharmonix Memory Man

Expensive but you'll know where the extra money went.

yeah,

but if you are in england and buy one of those then you're a bit silly, given that the components to make one (including enclosure) can be purchased for less than £30.

i mean, its a bit silly in america too,

but less so cos they don't have to pay shipping and customs and things.

I use

A line 6 DL-4 Modeller for most things and a TC Electronics ND-1 Novadelay for the more precise rythmic stuff I do, sometimes I use em together.

A friend of mines just bought the Boss DD-20 Gigadelay and that sounded really good

nova delays are swell.

i'm thinking of getting one, or maybe a time factor whilst i'm in the states this summer.

i love delay.

AKAI ex65d

Digital delay. Rack mount but it does everything, and sounds miles better than anything else I've come across.

line 6 echo park!!

incredible.... so many different sounds... an absolute joy to play with. can get it from thomann.de in germany (shipping ridiculously cheap as well)

http://www.thomann.de/gb/line6_tone_core_echo_park.htm

line 6 dl4

has a loop sampler built in aswell

Digitech X-Series is great

But you need to look about and work out what you want.

What's your budget?

How much space have you got?
It depends on what sound you want and whether you're looking for one distinct sound or a jack of all trades.

Anyway... delays...

Boss DD3/DD6 - Pretty much the standard for digital delays, the 6 has got a few more options on it if you're after reverse delay etc.

Ibanez DE-7 - I've yet to own one, but they're a bit cheaper than the boss, have a nice tape echo sim, I know a few people who swear by these.

Ibanez AD-9 / Boss DM2/3 - Analog delays in a stompbox! You'll pay a premium for these... they sound a bit more organic and fuller than digital delays usually, but have shorted delay times.

Digitech Digidelay - Quite a lot of features for a small pedal, the reverse mode is nice for creating soundscapes though the tape mode doesn't self oscillate. The stomp motion isn't as satisfying as a boss.

EHX Memory Man - The classic analog delay! Sounds awesome. Unfortunately they now cost £150+ as the chips used in em are rare, and they take up a lot of room and use their own power supply.

Boss DD20 - Like a double size pedal.. loads of delay modes and tap tempo. I've got one of these on my board as they're very versatile and don't take up too much room.

Akai Headrush E1/E2- Also a looper as well as a delay/tape echo. There's some weird switches for mucking around with the tape head positions to make odd rhythms, works with 9v which is a bonus.

Line 6 DL-4 - Those big green ones! Loads of people use these, they've got a lot of modes and presets like analog/tape sim, heard a few things about their reliability though. I think you might need a funny power source for one though...
