oooh....

although chances are you'd be going on your lonesome as its a bit much to fork out for :(

true...

... but my cousin lives in boston, he might be up for it...
or i could just be sensible and get some sleep...

No,

waking dreams are always better!

should be good yeah?

:D

it's at a crazy old country club that holds big jewish family holidays. lineup = to die for

to recap

My Bloody Valentine
Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On
Meat Puppets performing Meat Puppets II
Thurston Moore performing Psychic Hearts
Tortoise performing Millions Now Living Will Never Die

Shellac
Mogwai
Polvo
Fuck Buttons
Autolux
The Drones
Low
Wooden Shjips
Edan with Dagha
Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra

Sorry, but...

...as much as I love ATP, for fuck sake get some fresh blood on these bills.

I truly love the events, but they do need some BALLS when it comes to bills. The P'fork one is pretty ballsy, but EITS and this...? I mean, they'll still be ACE, but y'get me yeah?

Having calmed down a bit

I agree with you, I mean Mogwai and Shellac. AGAIN?

er

but it's on a different continent! not as if they've had the luxury to go to tons of good atps!

^ well, this ^

BUT, this sort of bill can't happen again in the UK for... oooooooh... five years.

Yes.

Five years.

yep, I agree

personally, I think the two ATPs this spring show that they may be getting a bit more diverse but I'm hoping the December one is a bit more surprising.

But there are 3 shows a year

I think the 3 most current UK ones are a lovely mix - Portishead ATP was very varied and experimental, pitchfork one is quite BALLSY, and the EITS one is just quality bands. What's wrong with that?

This is true.

I've seen all the acts on the bill (at least once)except Polvo, Meat Puppets and Wooden Shjips and 2 of those I'll be seeing next month (and I don't get out much).

I agree Mike

I think that they should have an ATP where they don't have a single band that has ever played one before, i'm sick of seeing Fuck Buttons playing every single show that ATP put on, fair enough they're signed to their label but come on, give some other bands for a chance, they aren't even that good.

Anyone know who's meant to be curating the Christmas one?

Wasn't Malkmus going to do one of these a few years back?

The dates and venue were almost sorted and then it all fell through. I was planning on going. Shame I can't afford this one at the moment.

Thats the bestest

festival lineup i've ever seen. America does have some cracking ones this year.

...

so are they going to get a load of British underground bands, who have never had the chance before, to play in New York? I wonder...

This whole

BLANK performing BLANK isnt for me, but that is one hell of a line-up.

why not?

I can understand you liking the bands, but i'd kill to see PE - It takes a nation of Millions... as they're doing at Pitchfork.
Or Battles performing Battles.
Or Interpol performing TOTBL.

oh my

i'd quite like to go.
um.
anyone want to come with?

bollocks

i would like to go, but if im going to a festival in america its going to be no fun. all the bands playing at it i have seen/will see, its just all of them together!!! Jamie_summers, are you going?

tempting

shirley they dont have butlins in america though?

sweet

the seetickets link doesnt work though

how much?

i'm very tempted...

it's just after my birthday to...

:)

fly zoom have flights for

~£150 return. OH.

PING!

where from Daniel?

cheapest I could get was £320

hi

i'll go with you guntrip!

only not really, because i don't have the time or the money

£300 return, you say?

oh god paul, don't do it. you'll hate yourself in half an hour.

I wanna go

thats awsome,

christ

that's a good lineup. I'm never gonna go, I can barely afford end of the road, but even so. Sheeeeet.

Oh god

I really want to go.

the venue is lolarious

its a bit like the shining inside.
it has a massive lake and forests like in friday the 13th.

OMG FUCK.

good bands...but

another predictable ATP line-up for anyone who's been to more than a few ATPs in the UK??

indeed but

I've been dying to go back to New York and this osn't helping :(

That's a hella good line-up

Shame my wages won't cover an impromptu jaunt to New York though.

This

is pretty amazing. Cost = flight (300) + bus (30) + ticket (125) + accomodation (75) = 530 quid plus food & drink. To be considered ...

as i said up there ^^^ somewhere

flights can be had for as low as £150 return right now.

where from?

cheapest I could get was £320

flyzoom.com

premium economy. it's the closest you'll ever get to flying freight but it gets you there.

I'M REALLY STUPID

and i didn't notice the "+£more" line underneath. sadface :(

i used to love ATP

but now i hate it, for taking all my fucking money.

this isn't helping either!

So...

ATP picks the ususal suspects then.

*Yawn.

Whe is EYE from the Boredoms, Chris Morris, Bjork, Aphex Twin gonna curate one.

Hopefully Shields will pick Primal Scream to piss of the indie fanboys.
x

hasnt aphex twin

already curated one? or have i dreamt this? on another note dreamt is the only word in the english language that ends in 'mt'

do want!

but 500 quid on a festival is a lots :( but i am seriously considering this...

one of my best friends

lives in the catskills.therefore i am going.oh happy day!!

mmm

all those bands i've already seen at their own gigs in better venues.
i'm good.

Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On

Please Mr. Jamie Summers of the Internet who does admin at ATP can you ask someone important to make this happen in the UK.

Thank you.

xx

seconded

yes, please.

sunday night

secret gig at ealing town hall

...that sounds like a lie

but i'm willing to believe you because polvo playing in ealing makes me smile like a loon.

Right...

...above you will see my reaction to this. As a regular ATP-goer, I feel the bill is pretty familiar, and I stand by my point (however phrased, perhaps strongly) that the festival could do with a little shake up. Pitchfork bill is a decent stab at this, but tickets are still available, no? It's not sold out. So far as I know.

Many of you have agreed - granted this is the first ATP in NYC (pleased for the company), but the same names continually appear.

So I probably don't deserve to receive a shitty e-mail from ATP about my post, calling DiS 'Disneyland in Sound', suggesting we're, well, rubbish. Does ATP realise that DiS has always been supportive of its festivals, its gigs and releases? We've always covered what we can, in a fair and honest fashion; we are personal fans of the festivals and professionally they're perhaps the greatest weekenders of their kind.

So why go on the attack, ATP? If you're reading this - you are, be fair - why come out with daggers at us, at Plan B, and the Stool Pigeon, these publications that have been supportive and continue to be. Think NME or Q gives a shit about your festival and will give it the coverage we can/have? Of course not. Pitchfork? Sure, you've a nice thing going there, but their coverage has never once been a patch on ours (and their photo coverage is often so-so at best).

I think it's time for ATP to take a step back, get some perspective and realise that Dis has always given more than it has received. We're in a position where it's absolutely right to tell them if we think a bill's a bit, y'know, 'tired'-looking. We've been to the events, time and time again; we are MASSIVE fans. It's ridiculous that I should be e-mailed what I have been. It'd only take one or two e-mails from myself to ensure there's no further coverage full stop, and to take these ATP threads down from our boards (which seem to be populated by a load of ATP fans, too).

Just think on, ATP, please, before everyone who has given a fuck about your event since day dot will turn a blind eye and deaf ear.

wow

pretty dramaobama.

HAHA ibzo

is a genius.

:')

thanks, stranger! :D

I wouldn't invest too much HOPE

in Ibzo's personal genius, young Obamafan. ;)

:D :D :D

dramaobama is my favourite.

^ This is brilliant

Sits back and waits to enjoy the ride

would it not of been better

to reply to them and discuss this than post silly threats on the messageboard?

Both ATP and DIS have gone down in my estimations.

Why not post it here?

I encourage ATP to do so, too.

I'm proud of our/my service to the festival, of all the coverage we've given it, of our support. It hurts, really, to be not only questioned on a professional level (as mentioned above) but also to be personally insulted (not mentioned above - that is private).

Here, given the population of the boards and their fondness for ATP, is the ideal location for debate regarding a need, or lack of, for slight change, for freshening, for progress. I take aboard the fact that ATP has never done NYC before; no doubt loads of people in the city will be super impressed by this, and the bill is great. But it's nothing we - in the UK - haven't become slightly used to. That's my point. Perhaps the well from which ATP regularly draws its lifeblood is drying, slightly? That might be my angle; you may disagree. Please do - that's what's great about posting opinions on a board like this.

ATP is a great company. I love the festivals and am a fan of many a record they've released.

mx

hahaha!

get over yourself mike, if you stop reporting on ATP someone else will and all the many fans on here will fuck off, leaving you with your cock in your hand and little else. what groundbreaking lineup would you like to see?

Hello japs_eye

Thanks for getting involved.

I don't imagine that many people here will 'fuck off', as there's lots more message board content beyond ATP-related threads.

A cock in a hand is worth three in a bush. Or something.

As for a line-up: you know, I don't know. Perhaps that's the magic? The uncertainty of development, of shaken-up change without alienating existing fanbases. I don't know where ATP could go for its next few UK events. But if it's exciting, it'll get a thumbs-up from me.

mx

while there is a lot more on here

however, i think people may have a problem with the fact you won't allow people to discuss a festival because you think the lineup is unexciting. Plus, only yesterday i read a thread complaining about the fact that over the last 6 months, DiS has become "shite" and the threads are boring. Perhaps the bubble is about to burst, perhaps not....

People can discuss what they like.

See below re: 'Wrong language perhaps'.

But that being the case there's no way one of those people should be the recipient of a missive best summarised as ill-advised.

a case of wrong language indeed.

perhaps bear in mind that your self appointed sense of importance when it comes to ATP coverage is slightly off putting and it may be an idea to climb down from your high horse. but hey, what do i know? i'm merely one of these newcomers ruining the glory that is DiS

I get terrible vertigo.

My horse is a midget pony.

ha!

judging by the loftiness of your comments i very much doubt that...

The funny thing is ...

... ATP used to have its own message board, but it was shut down a few years ago, after every thread ended in a shouting match between Barry Hogan and the posters.

haha

there used to be an e-groups/onelist/yahoo-groups list too that was set up for the 1st ATP too that was pretty active for a while. ah, them were the days!

mibbie

dis and atp should kiss n make up??

ATP VS DiS next year??

who would you have play, ideally??

...

with this and the recent ventures with pitchfork, atp they're obviously trying to export the brand more in the U.S. if this is the aim it does make some sense to have a kind of atp 'greatest hits' festival showcasing the kind of bands the festival has made is reputation with. especially since (as far as i know)they're hasn't been a U.S atp since 2004.

obviously there doesn't seem much need for dis-bashing, but i'm going to hold my judgement about whether atp has become too 'conservative' until the lineups for nbc 08 and the 09 festivals are announced. from their past form, i'm confident atp will deliver once again.

is it possible to see shellac too many times?

...

there hasn't been a U.S atp since 2004 (oops)

is it possible to see shellac too many times?

er, yes it is i guess. but the beauty of ATP is that you don't have to if you don't want to.

they played the big room at camber one year, but it was nowhere near as good as when they played the smaller room downstairs.

oh shit, i can get that shity camber smell of hotdog already...

No doubt

that, from what you say, that ATP person overreacted with their email, it's not as if you see much criticism of ATP on here, fair enough.

Doesn't it seem like just as much of an overreaction to threaten to boycott all ATP events in your pages - not least as you think they're generally so good?

If you want to defend your right to Journalistic impartiality a threat to pull coverage of such an important set of events doesn't come across as very dedicated to the principle...

Wrong language perhaps.

More saying that one silly e-mail too many can be poitentially damaging to a cause that nobody wants to scupper.
