This is the best music from 2008 I've heard yet. I guess it would be "dance punk" but they clearly have no axe to grind as far as influence goes- "Beat Pyramid" is fresh and fun.

I thought it was okay
I didn't really get into the album as a whole, just the standout tracks like Numerology, Colours and Elvis. Perhaps I need to give it another listen.
I'm listening to "Swords Of Truth" now
and I don't know, it sounds good too. It is good- I thinks. Maybe I'm just too anxious to find something new and good. But " C 16th + -" is good too and so is "En Papier" and "Infinity Ytinifni", shit this is good.
the first half of the album in particular is really strong
it loses momentum a fair bit after Elvis...
have you heard the original version of Navigate? It's about 15 minutes long! It's incredible. To be honest they could have stuck this on after Elvis as the last and i would have been much happier with the album as a whole.
They are still really young and they're making music as good as this though, and i think the next few albums will be really special.
i like them
because they sound like some of my favourite bands, Wire, Gang of Four and the drummer in that band is amazing. However the album does like a certain substance and heart for me. It's a little bit overlong as well, MKK3 and £4 for example are very weak.
^ this
take a few tracks of the album and it's easily one of the best of the year
*off
i find the album quite overlong too
but i like 'mkk3'. especially towards the end when all those synthetic sounds collide together and things start to swirl around inside yr head.
err
despite it having that line about michael barrymore wanking in it
Yeah, maybe I jump zee freeking gunn here
Oh dear.
It's grown on me loads
but like some of the others are saying it's abit stop/start. Still, one of the better albums I've heard this year I think.
I've listened to it a couple of times
but so far have not managed to get into it. Maybe I need to give it another try.
..
amazing album with some great tracks.
much more to it than initially meets the eye (ear) and even though some tracks seem moronic lyrically (ie. numbers), they're all wrapped up with some kind of meaning - ie. the "23 Enigma" in Discordianism - the belief that all events are connected to the number 23.
great live band too...
great album
bollocks live, they play for about 20 mins
Album was monumentally disappointing
Like they rushed into it going "Yeah! Let's do this! And this! And THIS!" but forgot to write any good songs.
Hype-fuelled dreck.
maybe ColdGlassEye maybe I must say
it does have a certain tossed off feel but to me that's a plus in this case. But I hear what your saying too- definitely. I'm listening to "Infinity Ytinifni" right now and I wouldn't call it monumentally disappointing exactly or dreckish in the least.
It really frustrated me
I listened to it three or four times on buying it and then haven't had any urge to go back, so this is all a little bit from memory. I suppose that tells its own story.
There just weren't any good songs! I'm trying to think of one now - Old Grey Whistle Test style - and the only bits I can recall are the semi-barked verses: "What's your favourite number? What does it mean?" and "Elvis! I wasn't talking 'bout that king!". And they're annoying.
Obviously, the disappointment is in large part due to the hype. It feels like it was rushed out to take advantage of the buzz, when it needed a little more time and writing. Maybe they've done the difficult second album first.
("Dreck" was harsh, I'll admit.)
fantastic!
they take elements of loads of stuff i really like and make it their own and i still find it fresh everytime i listen.
i think the album is way too short though, and it's just the start and end that are a bit pointless, although it's a nice idea to try and do that.
and there's a track near the end that reminds me of six by seven so that's cool.
really looking forward to seeing them live too, someone said on another thread they have improved greatly.
definitely one of my favourite bands around today.
i like this album
me and my mate think he seemed a bit like ian curtis when on stage
they are amazing
C16th is incredible. after seeing them a couple of times i didnt think id enjoy beat pyramid so much, and they come acorss in interviews as being quite inaccessible and pretentious. but i like that about them, think it reflects their music quite well...
It's
a good album, quite ambitious and pretentious (pretentiousness isn't always a bad thing, providing the intentions are good) but I'd have liked the original 'Navigate' on there too.
It'd be good if they managed to record another one soon because I don't think they've realised their full potential, but a great debut nonetheless.
I think they're great live as well.
Could be worse
I think it's a good listen, but can't imagine listening to it often. 'Colours' is a hit, not much else.
Its got somthing
great about it but certain songs come across as far too pretentious, like a nathan barley joke taken too far.
Elvis and Colours are great, ive not spent enough time with the album yet to tell whether i like it or not though.
