well, back in the late 60s they were untouchable and just awesome.

JA
Yep, they were brilliant. Check out their Monterey Pop performance. In fact, almost all of Monterey Pop is amazing...
it's just a shame they turned so shitty
ie 'we built this city on rock and roll' mega sad face.
Check 'em out in 'Gimme Shelter' too.
Watch the Hells Angels knock their guitarist out cold so they cant continue with their performance.
Can you get Monterey
on DVD?
I really want it. But they deleted The Byrds' performance because Crosby started telling everyone to take LSD and give it to their children.
:(
one of the funniest things Jim Carey ever did

A lot of 60s music i don't really get, just not my bag. I can listen to them but i won't really connect with it, y'know?
the whole 'taking drugs to make music to take drugs to' thing i suppose
though that phrase came later, obv.
I love White Rabbit
and Somebody To Love.... I haven't got into much else yet wicked band though.
i came across
'surrealistic pillow' on vinyl in pop boutique in london, and it's fantastic all the way through. psychedelic albums really do take you somewhere else.
i've just got some dodgey best of
I haven't listened to enough. I've herd good things about Surrealistic Pillow I should look into that sometime.
They did seem to have an edge to them that some of the other bands
from around that time and scene lacked. The Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil is awesome.
Which makes it all the more galling that they managed to morph in the bloated and grotesque Jefferson Starship
Yeah
Crown of Creation rocks!
Surrealistic Pillow
is one of my favourite 60s albums. And not just because of White Rabbit!
the other ones
I've been pondering getting Volunteers or Bathing Over Baxters. Any good? Already have and love Surrealistic Pillow and Crown Of Creation.
Monterey Pop & Gimme Shelter are classic movies!
Who remembers the 90's dance track New Dawn by Disco Evangelists? That had a great live sample of Grace Slick from Woodstock (I think) going on about 'morning maniac music'. Just popped in me head that one did.
I forgot I idolized this band at one time- weird huh?
Love most everything and the live stuff too especially the one recorded at Winterland. Papa John kind of brought them down a tad but he was fabulous. Love the early Marty Balin stuff. Have you heard "Blows Against The Empire" and Grace Slick's first solo album, and of course Hot Tuna "Burgers" and "QUAY" ?
Drove down to Denver to see Jefferson Starship on the Dragonfly tour w/ Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen in about spring 75 or 74.
Grace Slick was pretty rough with curly hair though.
Gorgeous straighter.
They seem really good but I'm yet to really listen to them. I don't like Somebody to Love, but I love Two Heads and obviously White Rabbit.
awesome band
"after bathing at baxter's" is the one you want. fucking great. the decline from this era to the starship days and "nothin's gonna stop us now" must be the most severe in rock history.
