I am a very big fan of Weezer and Mr Cuomo (who for me can do little wrong) and I - along with the rest of the world - fell head over heels for Pinkerton and The Blue Album.
But why oh why does everyone else - apart from me - seem to hate Make Believe? Sure, it's a little bit cheesy (OK, so "Beverly Hills" and "My Best Friend" might even be a LOT cheesy) but let's face it, they've never exactly been cheese-phobes. Knock off "Beverly Hills" and "We Are All On Drugs" and I think that the rest of it is pretty damn good.
"The Damage In your Heart", "Hold Me", "Pardon Me", "The Other Way", "Perfect Situation" and "Peace" are all great album tracks, no?
Anyone?
?

Sorry...
....apart from 'This Is Such A Pity' (which I do quite like), the album has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. People expect more from the =w=!!
I blame Rick Rubin. I read somewhere recently about how he used to give the band specific assignments in the studio - like "Write something that sounds like a Billy Joel song", and "Write a song with a 'We Will Rock You' beat" (which resulted in the travesty that was Beverly Hills).
I didn't know Weezer fans..
had a quality control system.
That's how they can continually release shitter and shitter albums, yet still maintain a healthy fanbase.
it's got a few good songs
all of which are just poor verions of blue album songs though, such as hold me, which from memory is like say it aint so, but with no feeling
I agree
perfect situation and hold me are especially good. Sure its not up there with their early stuff but compared to the biggest disapointment in my entire life that was the green album and its even worse than that follow up maladroit, its an ok album
There are some okay songs
but it is pretty crap compared to the rest of their work...
Surely, SURELY...
...better than The Green Album and Maladroit?
No! Are you actually mental?
Maladroit is a great album, the best after Blue and Pinkerton.
Green is pretty decent too, it's good pop-rock fun.
I like all their albums
Make Believe is good. This is such a pity is awesome !!
maladroit is terrible
just a mish mash cut n paste of fragments that don't fit together to make actual songs
WOAH!
Green Album is great and Maladroit has some great riffs on it. Make Believe is at the bottom of pile, that hopefully, won't be founded upon Red Album... :)
I swear this has been debated to death.
I've still
not heard this. I thought Maladroit was pretty good but was also very disappointed with the Green album. Pinkerton will always be my favourite. 'Tis their high water mark if you ask me.
The actual order
is as follows:
Blue > Pinkerton > Green > Maladroit > > > Make Believe
You should all know this by now
*
pinkerton>>blue>make believe>green>>>maladroit
*
Blue > Pinkerton > Maladroit > Green > Make Believe
The REAL order
is Blue > Pinkerton, just.
Weezer actually broke up after Pinkerton, and Rivers sold the name onto a tribute act (Wowzer).
This explains why every "Weezer" album since then has been COMPLETE DOGSHIT.
i don't know how many times i've said this on DiS
but the correct order of Weezer albums is:
Blue > Pinkerton > Green >>> Maladroit >>>>>>>>> Make Believe
Make Believe
Is just awful.
Even the tracks you people are championing.
This is such a pity might suit the Killers or the Bravery... but; good god!
not quite
it's
Blue > Pinkerton >>>> Green >> Maladroit >>>>>>>>> Make Believe
OK, so...
...lot's of "it's crap"...
...but...
...still no "I think it's crap because [...]"
Which was what I was hoping to discover.
?
I'd give it a 6/10
Weezer are in my top 4 all time favourite bands but I do think Make Believe was a bit of a slip up. The Damage In Your Heart, Haunt You Every Day, This Is Such A Pity and Perfect Situation are all really good songs (except for lyrics to Perfect Situation!) but the rest just feels really poor and too throwaway.
Pork & Beans wipes the floor with most of Make Believe so I'm very optimistic about the next record.
