I'm loving John Peel Stage on Friday
Ouch.
makes up for itself with the Sunday line up though
Oof
Yeah, I bet John Peel would love those massive hipster gobsites Crystal Castles.
It's not actually the official line up though
Since it came from Q who no longer have the line up announcement. Official one comes out tomorrow at midnight
Great picture.
How did NME plumb yet another new depth today?
"World exclusive", they called it, culling this from the same source as everyone else. It's OK to reprint it, like you did, if you haven't called it a "world exclusive".
So that's the NME, then on the same page the comments show that their current depths afford them the readership they deserve. One comment read:
"Finally the lineup... no pete doherty though even though emily eavis said he was playing as his "comeback gig". although he could be playing the acoustic tent.Libs Forever!"
With the odd exception (National/Spititualized/Hold Steady/Seasick Steve)
this line up is AIDS on a stick.
i like that amy winehouse is listed as a
'special guest TBC'.
what, if she's still alive/not in the nick at the time of the festival?
Brian Jonestown massacre
Gutted!
So fucking glad I am not going now
That Friday lineup for all three stages is dire beyond belief
the black keys wouldnt be that low...
shirley?
I thought this too
The strongest stage is the John Peel on a Sunday. Friday is a non-starter.
Vampire Weekend playing twice.
Thats nice of them.
Who are Manu Chao?!
And why are they so high up on the Pyramid Stage?
Wikipedia it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manu_Chao
They actually sound fairly interesting
'he' not 'they' you muppet
how do people not know manu chao still???
jesus
Easy Tiger
Is calling me a muppet for a slight grammatical error really warrented?
After reading his Wikipedia page,
it would seem I do not know who is because I do not wet the bed.
Eh?
WTF?
Manu Chao
looks like it could be a highlight to me.
More fun than The 'fucking' Fratellis that's for sure.
Manu Chao
Incredible on recordings.
Dumbed down, punked up and boring live.
i saw him a few times back in 2002 at glasto
and he was great fun, though it did drag a little, but yeah on cd he's right cotching breeh antics for dem bbq stoning summer day ennit an ting
Manu Chao!!!
yeh cant belive they got him a few good people but mainly predicteble and avrege, Althogh Leeds fests gone metal and indie i think itle be funner simmpley cause the metal heads and scean kids will probly get into a few fights
Please.
Never, ever go to Glastonbury.
hilltop hoods!
that's ace.
I really did see Shakin Stevens just then didn't I?I
I'd go for Gilbert o Sullivan alone
Lol
Foals, followed by The Hoosiers, how bizarre and stupid >_<
Glastonbury is tosh.
yep, and bring it on..
Beck, Spiritulized, Shaky, the BJM. More than enough to keep me entertained there. Crowded House can fuck off though.
ha ha ha
what a load of shit. The friday pyramid stage is a sub v fest atrocity.
OMG Hilltop Hoods
that's ace.
I heart those guys.
The Stars?
gay
wow...just wow
there are a couple of good ones, which I have snipped here but
fuxache; the world's premier festival has sort of let its crown slip, doncha finnk
This is all V festival fare.
Does Emily not like music?
It is Radio 2 pap all the way on the whole
Kings of Leon
The Fratellis
Editors
The Feeling
KT Tunstall
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
The Subways
Panic at the Disco
The Enemy
We Are Scientists
Foals
The Hoosiers
Ben Folds
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong

Reverend and the Makers
The Ting Tings

Manu Chao
The Raconteurs
James Blunt

Shakin’ Stevens
Duffy
The Wombats

The Verve
John Mayer
Gilbert O’Sullivan
Groove Armada
The Zutons
The Pigeon Detectives
Mark Ronson
Scouting for Girls
Jack Penate
Newton Faulkner
Hoodoo Gurus
The Kings Of Leon
Are a great band, I don't care if they are apparently radio 2 pap. They are the best headliner this year by a long way at Glastonbury and comparing them as if they are the same as all the other bands you have listed is an insult to your intelligence.
Anything remotely popular could be labeled radio 2 pap so stop generalising and creating a fucking useless ideology that all bands are superior if they are not popular or are not pop. Too much of this shit goes on in Drowned In Sound and it's become a cliche to hate everything remotely popular even though so many supposedly underground bands are fucking shite yet are labeled great.
What. The. Absolute. Fuck?
^ This
just
awful.
well
leonard cohen isnt awful.
good lord
that is poor.
Oh dear
I do believe this line-up is actually more indicative of the current music scene than Glasto just booking crap bands. THIS is music in 2008. Yeah, shite innit!
Not really.
The Latitude festival looks far more promising than Glasto, ergo a more accurate view of music in 2008 perhaps?
oh...
that's awful. that really is. I haven't even been a glastonbury-hater this year, but that really is poor.
go to the Park Stage and see My Morning Jacket instead. that oughta awesome you out enough for the rest of the weekend.
Lol
Lol. Not much more to add. No more than 5 bands worth a look there - The National and Stars are my two picks. Other than that...well I'm glad I'm not going.
Don't forget though - British Sea Power are playing!
^^this
yeah, it'd be awesome for Spiritualized and The National closing sunday night. I'd go just for that pretty much (and BSP)...
but the rest of the lineup IS shocking.
Why the hell are Panic at The Disco headlining the other stage with the enemy below them... and Elbow lower on the bill then both!??! WHY! Elbow closing the other stage one night would have been perfect - whilst they still arent massive for reasons of the public generally being idiots -they're easily good enough
That's a massive shame
I'm not going, but good Christ.
Didn't Eavis Snr claim it to be the best line-up of the summer by far?
That is properly awful.
I wonder how Ben Folds must feel, sandwiched inbetween two of the worst bands in the country.
there's
about 10 more stages/tents to be announced, if this is even the real line up.
it's not that exciting, but meh, the main stages are always a bit gash. I can deal with it. I know I'll have a great time anyway. Cohen, MMJ, BJM, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Ben Folds, Hold Steady, Panic At The Disco, Hold Steady, Spiritualized, John Cale, Manu Chow, Black Keys, Black Mountain, Band Of Horses, Elbow, Massive Attack, Hot Chip before they've even announced HALF the line up is NOT BAD.
Can't wait to see Hold Steady on the main stage as well.
Poor
Its as if someone's got into my head and decided to book all of my most hated bands. The Hoosiers, The Feeling, James Blunt, The Fratellis, Panic at the Disco, Scouting for Girls, Hot Chip, Mark Ronson, The Wombats. Most of it reads like the lineup for T4 on the beach!! Where are Operator Please, Be Your Own Pet, Dirty Pretty Things, Duke Spirit, Cajun Dance Party. The very special acts to be announced and the lineup on the Park stage had better be good Eavis!!!
The lineup for T4 On The Beach
is probably far superior to this garbage.
yeah
there are plenty of decent bands playing. But only like 2 on the mainstage
although if its really muddy, good luck getting around stages!
Pretty much the only band I'd want to watch
would be The National. That line up's so bland and awful. The words Peel Grave Turning spring to mind.
Bag of Sh*te
Well, glad I didn't bother getting a ticket....and very much doubt I'll be watching any BBC coverage. With the exception of KOL & The Verve, I would have had to spend the entire time in the Peel tent to see anything worthwhile! Tcha! Great Escape looks muchos better. And cheaper.
I'm plesantly....
surprised. It could have been a whole lot worse. The Raconteurs, MGMT, Vampire weekend, Elbow, Ben Folds. Nice.
Leonard Cohen before the fucking Verve?
couldn't they give him the Other Stage and a full headline set instead if they don't think he's Pyramid headliner material?!
ugh
correct.
this is on the whole rather crap.
however The Cribs, Ting Tings, Lightspeed Champion, Raconteurs, Hold Steady, Black Kids, Hot Chip, Massive Attack, Biffy', Band Of Horses, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Castles and Black Keys will all be excellent.
but
seriously, who is left for the BBC Introducing stage this year!?
Apart from Gilbert O'Sullivan
it's all a bit drab
Hilltop Hoods?
Not content here in Oz with bombarding you with crap garage bands and tryhard "indie" outfits like operator please, here comes Aussie hip hop from the Adelaide suburbs!
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Coldplay?
Could the 'special guest' with Jay Z be Coldplay? Didn't they work together before?
when are they
going to change the name to Glaston-V ???
The Fratellis
The Feeling
The Hoosiers
James Blunt
Jay Z
....what a load of middle class wank
Suddenly I have the words to Adam Buxtons "Festival Song" in my head again
i knew there was a reason i got a bad feeling about this year
i'm really rather glad i'm not going
wow, that pretty much sucks
would love to see Spiritualized though.
Genius...
Seen them at Glasto a few times, in the mid nineties, back when their set was a permanent fixture to close sunday. Always a winner. If Spiritualized, BJM and Shaky don't get BBC coverage I'm not paying my license.
LOL
LOL
I can't believe people are pissing about Jay-Z playing when
the whole line up is terrible. Were I unfortunate enough to be going to this I would just go see Jay-Z, BJM and The Hold Steady and be forced to spend the rest of the time sampling the numerous delights of Glastonbury's so called 'other planet' atmosphere.
Even if I spend that weekend sitting in a bath of sick I bet I'll have more fun.
This
Is not the full line up.
http://music.guardian.co.uk/festivals/glastonbury2008/0,,2272995,00.html
woops
http://music.guardian.co.uk/glastonbury2008/lineup/0,,2276393,00.html
Well apparently Beck is playing
and Shakin' Stevens should be great. I'm pretty pleased I have a ticket, and in a way it's not a problem that the lineup is a bit gash, it means I will have more time to go to the teepee field / lost vagueness and all that weird stuff. I'm looking forward to going, so fuck you all.
Did that say
Gilbert O'Sullivan? Jeez! Now I'll have nightmares from my (very distant) childhood.
*and* Shakin Stevens?
I take it all back. It's going to be MINT.
"Dogtanian"
exqueeze me?
i am glad
i am not the only one who spotted this.
That Other Stage line-up on Sunday is atrocious
I know One Night Only are playing Reading but that list just blows.
This is just really disappointing
There's obviously a few bits here and there worth seeing, but there is SO much shit there it's unbelievable
The biggest thing for me is how much worse the Other Stage is this year compared to last
If there wasn't a big crew of my mates going I'd be considering asking for a refund
Just
a bit of a shit line up. Was hoping there would be something to get excited about. Worst line up of the last three
Surely there is enough
in that list to keep most people occupied for the whole weekend??? The John Peel and Park stages are especially great on the Saturday.
And with the dance and jazz/world lineups still to be annouced you can't dismiss the whole festival purely on some bands you hate playing.
According to the Guardian, the dance tents have been announced
Fatboy Slim is headlining one of the nights
I think that's all that needs to be said
Glastonbury are obsessed with Norman Cook!
It's not 1998 anymore!
I've just checked the Jazzworld lineup.
That's looking terrible this year.
.
thank god i have lattitude tickets.
for one glorious minute
i thought roy wood was opening the john peel stage...
!EPIC ROFL WARNING!
- Other Stage
Groove Armada
The Zutons
Pigeon Detectives
Mark Ronson
Scouting for Girls
Jack Penate
Newton Faulkner
Black Mountain
The Hoodoo Gurus
Emmy The Great
What. The. Fuck. Isallthatabout?????
methinks tomorrows end of the road announcement cant come soon enough
fact
pass- has jo whiley done a voiceover for the tv ad for all of their records?
i know she is related to jack penate
Do CSS tour everyday?
Oh I think they do.
