Following news earlier today that Coldplay were to give away their new single, in a move comparable to that Radiohead thing of last year, now word reaches DiS - via Wired's blog network - that Metallica are considering dishing out the rock for nowt.
With only one album remaining on their deal with Warner Music Group, the four-piece might well deliver a digital release a la the aforementioned and Nine Inch Nails. Wasn't this the band that said terrible things about Napster way back when?
Anyway, speaking to Rolling Stone drummer Lars Ulrich - it's always the not-so quiet ones - commented:
"You know, this is our last record under contract with Warner, so we're looking at how we can embrace everything.
"We've been observing Radiohead and Trent Reznor and in 27 years or however long it takes for the next record, we'll be looking forward to everything in terms of possibilities with the internet."
Great, good, we're pleased. And now we're going home, to go to sleep...

hypocrisy..
at it's best.
there's a differnece between people stealing your music
and you giving out your music for free though.
ain't it.
Your not even joking with the 'do a Radiohead' type titles now
thom yorke n' co. lulz serious biznizzz
the nme used it for this same story the other day
so i guess DiS still is joking
I've still got my 'Death to Corporate Rock' protest tee shirt
from 2000 with the NAPSTER logo in a classic Metallica font.
I miss the old days of Napster and it's cooler brother, Audio Galaxy.
Hypocrisy maybe
but i guess they will argue it's still them controlling how they distribute their music.
Audiogalaxy FTW!!
I'm also looking at how I can "embrace everything".
Everything that is currently happening in the news, I want to do too. Maybe I will run for mayor and base my policies around how I would like to lock my daughter in the basement whilst I settle my divorce with Paul McCartney.
The thing
he really wants to embrace is the amount of money NIN made for themselves by taking out the middle man.
rubbish
total arse
