3 of my friends have just finished standing in line for an hour and a half to get a game!
i believe that they are currently having a bukkake party with the game at this very moment..
i mean the game may be good, but can it or any other game for that matter be that good?!

I have to wait until 9 tomorrow to get my copy. I commute to university, and I made the fatal error of pre-ordering GTA4 in Preston rather than in Burnley. Which is a damn shame indeed.

I'm kind of glad I don't care about computer games any more.
I've never played any GTA games, but I remember watching my mate play the first game on the PlayStation and thinking it looked great, like an old Amiga game.
The thing is, how many times have we done this game before.
There will be nothing new on there. I don't care about the on-line capabillities, at the end of the day it will be the same old mix of: Prostitutes, motorbikes, helicopters, bowls of cocaine, italian americans with annoying accents that are deemed as automatically cool.

The gaming industry is still in its infancy and it needs to learn how to mature. The games like GTA and Halo will become the normal type of game and Sonic and Mario will become the cartoons - games that are normally critically panned but every so often a game comes along that changes that.
GTA and Halo are like the action blockbusters, the character driven storylines. As in cinema, with the adoption of colour and sound, there is only so much originality you can have. Why change the gameplay or the action if it has been right for so long?
And, another thing you seem to have got wrong is that Rockstar are doing thing differently. The gameplay will be excellent, the storyline will be cliched but quite compelling, the voice acting will be above par, and the city will be so detailed that you will not even notice that it is not a real city, one built from zero to everything by a team of designers.
Rockstar are doing everything different - everyone else is doing the same as them.
I haven't played it yet..
...but it is the detailing which makes GTA so good- like the radio stations, each with their own personality, the parodies (Love Fist?) and the pretty evil sense of humour throughout.
I think a lot of things have been revamped for this version, such as the combat and the physics engine.

I'd say satirical rather than serious.
You can't take GTA "seriously" really, it is designed to be tongue in cheek. See: The GTA3 radio stations.
Thats what I loved about the first one.
The 'Mundano' used to have country and western music playing. That game was horribly addictive.

it's not as good as Morrowind
on PC, at least. i just felt it lacked the variety of its predecessor and just didn't feel as user-friendly

And you are right, it isn't the kind of game you can just jump straight onto, it is life consuming. I just love the way you can virtually live another life in a computer game, I like the way, if you fast travelled to another area the time difference would be the same as if you walked there. It sounds stupid, but I liked the fact that you could go up onto a hilltop and watch the sunrise. Amazing game!

Oblivion is number 4 I think? It's the only one I've played.
There's a definite 'wow' moment when at the beginning you make it out of the sewers into the light and see the lake before you.
It's simply the most gorgeous game I have ever played.

1. Every GTA game has had 'comical remote control vehicle missions' in it, bar maybe this one (not seen one yet). San Andreas had a whole story section revolving around the owner of a remote control vehicle shop, for fuck's sake.

23:50 I was stood in the queue outside Camden Gamestation
00:30 I left the shop, with people muttering all around as I'd bought a PS3 and the game. Then had to endure the nightbus home, with more muttering. Fucking vultures.
Made it in one piece though, spent an hour watching system update and installation screens, holding my eyelids open, before finally playing and... oh wow.
I only did one proper mission (helping Niko's brother escape the Albanians), and spent another hour exploring/beating up tramps.
The thought of getting home to play some more is making me salivate.
