My band has been offered a gig here recently, but we've heard some real horror stories about the 3 harpies that run the 'Talentscout' nights. Has anyone played this venue?
It literally is just the name immediately sounds supect. My general rule on gigs is that any promoter who claims they're gigs gonna get you your "big break" (as the name would imply) is likely to be a bullshitter and not worth doing a gig for.
and they are very successful at reeling young, teenage bands into their trap. Someone close to our band used to do the sound there and said they were a bunch of monsters that certainly trousered some money off the backs of the naive and stupid. Grim.
They sent me a load of tickets which I said i'd sell ( I had no intention of doing so). A week before I e-mailed them and said we'd have to pull out as we couldn't sell the tickets. They said not to worry and let us off. Win.
To see a friend's band play and it is not a good venue for a band looking to attract anyone along. If you are going to play a gig around Leicester Square do one at The Comedy with DeadorAlive or something.
No.
But the name 'Talentscout' sets alarm bells ringing...
Ive been to the website
and it all sounds too (scarily) good to be true. Have you crossed paths with Talentscout before?
Nope, never.

Just looked at the website
It seems to claim to have "united many unsigned bands with publishers, managers, agents" etc. but doesn't give any names. That can't be a good sign.
Apparently, its pay-to-play

Not played it but
they emailed my band last week. I asked them for more details. They obliged. I concluded there are better venues and nights to play in London.
It's pay to play but I had a sneaky tip-off

No one ever turns up but the promoters are nice.
Er, im reliably informed they are about as nice as cancer
if you play the night and dont bring anyone. They keep your money and get nasty with you too, so im told.
don't
do it!
don't do it!
i went there once and it was rubbish. like really shit.
never pay to play
and tell them they're cunts!
because if they're pay-to-play promoters...
they're ca-HUNTS
My old band played here once
but it wasn't for talentscout. It's a shit venue though and for that alone I wouldn't bother.
Not great
In fact f-ing shite
i went there last year...
