I'm still a fan of the old games, I still play them even now.
Lets show off about our greates CM achievements and teams.
My greatest team. It was essentially an experiment to see if I could create an unbeatable team and I did pretty much.
Inter Milan (CM 01-02) playing 3-5-2 attacking.
Toldo (GK)
West (DC)
Materazzi (DC)
Nesta (DC)
Zambrotta (DML)
J.Zanetti (DMR)
Mendieta (MC)
Vieira (MC)
Totti (AMC)
Shevchenko (FC)
Jardel (FC)
This was the team that won 31 and drew 3 in a league season without losing, it was even immune to those games where it seemed you could never win. i.e. you have 33 shots and their average GK plays a blinder, they have 1 shot and score.
My current Scunthorpe team that reached the Champs League Semi-Final. (99-00, playing 3-5-1-1)
Carroll, Roy (GK)
Dillon, Paul (DC)
Dailly, Christian (DC)
Dunne, Richard (DC)
Robinson, Paul (DML)
Laurie, Carl (DMR)
Housham, Steve (MC)
Walker, Justin (MC)
Koogi, Anders (MC)
Tsartas, Vasilias (AMC)
Browne, Stafford (SC)
How this team ever reached the semi-final of the Champions League I'll never know. We're basically play Bolton-esque hardworking no nosense football and it works a treat.
Such a cheap team no-one cost over £1.1m.
Other notable achievements are winning the Chamions League with Lecce after 5 or 6 seasons (I forget exactly) and winning the same competition 4 years running with Real Betis, this was about 12 years in the future and at that time my 4 spanish job.
The same game included 2 consecutive UEFA cups with Celta Vigo and another with Numancia who I got promotion with. The eurpopean place was earnt by beating Villareal in the Cup final the year I got promoted. When I first joined Numancia I went on an unbeaten run that ended after 52 games over 2 seasons, what's all this about giving managers time. :)
Anyone else want to post their achievements/experiences?

I accidentally managed to recreate
the Bayer Leverkusen season where they almost won everything, but failed gloriously, but on the 00-01 version. Weird.
Accidentally?
How did you manage that?
As in I was Leverkusen,
and trying to win everything, but lost in the CL final, German Cup final and the Bundesliga. It made me very angry.
I get it now.
I thought you ment you accidentally bought all their players in real life or something.
Celta Vigo on CM 01-02.
How could I forget my all conquering Celta team.
Playing 4-1-3-2.
Costanzo (GK)
Ticci (DL)
Sergio (DC)
Antonsson (DC)
Contra (DR)
Gattuso (DMC)
Gustavo Lopez (AMC)
Rosicky (AMC)
Hakansson (AMC)
Saviola (FC)
S.Inzaghi (SC)
A couple
Getting Barnet to the Premier League on CM94 using players that had never been played before - so they had made 0 appearances when I signed them. Great names like Simon Funnell, Paul Kelly, Deryn Brace, Adam Lowethorpe and Ade Akinbiyi starred.
And with Carlisle on CM 01/02 getting them straight promotions to the Premiership without spending more than £100k on any one player. Guys such as Jermaine Jenas, Gifton Noel-Williams, Haukur Gudnasson, Steve Torpey, Chris Powell et al signed on frees. Jon O'Connor was my big money signing...
You got some good free signings there.
I love getting teams promoted on a budget.
Yeah,
it's all too easy looking at various forums and getting players cheap who turn out to be amazing. I much rather find my own bargains and do it.
I actually get bored of signing some players.
If they're too obvious, like Mads Jorgensen on 01-02 or Ton Ton Zola Mokouko on 99-00. Everyone knows they turn into gods so there's not as much satisfaction in buying them.
i had cm 95-96
theres some PROPER old skool for you.
CM2 96/97
Got Hartlepool promoted in 3 consecutive seasons, had a stint at mediocrity and even a fall only to come back and win the premiership & fa cup after 3 years of relegation battles. This was rewarded with european conquest the following year :D
Ibrahim Bakayoko
CM2
<3
My best included
a Carlisle team on the 97/98 version that finished 4th in the Prem in about my 6th season and starred a load of fellas I got in from 'Minor Team' playing 3-4-3 direct with Stefano Fiore on the right wing and Bryan Griggs on the left. Its easy when you can sell Donkey Delap for about £5m right at the start and bring in David Hopkin.
Best all time team was Monaco on the same version, won the Champs League 3 years in a row and took places 1, 2 and 3 in the Hall of Fame much to my brothers annoyance. The team, from my recollection, was, at its best:
1. Barthez
2. Sagnol
3. Roberto Carlos
4. Desailly
5. Figo
6. Guardiola
7. Luis Enrique
8. Bakayoko
9. Ronaldo
10. Trezeguet
11. Denilson
Subs:
Barthez
Legwinski
Benarbia
Blanc
N'Doram (amazing)
Most of that team was assembled on frees too. Thanks for the big wage budget Prince Rainier (RIP)!
Looks like you mugged
Monaco somewhat. I always used to buy Martin Djietou. He was staterific
I knew I'd missed someone!
I had Djetou at centre back with Desailly, Figo on the right and Luis Enrique on the bench as he played everywhere.
Yes, I admit, Monaco were easy to do well with. Especially after selling the frankly useless Henry for about £15m and buying Bakayoko on a tribunal for £900k after offering £2k.
on CM2 (96/97)
I managed to have a season with Ajax (about four or five seasons in) where I won every single game, and domestically, I won by at least three goals in every game. I think I finished the season having conceded 8 goals in the league and scored about 125. I won one cup game against a non-league team 26-0, Mario Jardel scored 12. Those were the days!
My greatest acheivement by far though is in the last ever proper Championship Manager (03/04) where in five seasons with Hull, I did the following :
Season 1 : Won League Two, Won LDV Vans Trophy, FA Cup semi finals
Season 2 : Won League One, Won League Cup, Won FA Cup beating Liverpool 7-3 in the semis (Houllier resigned as a result!) and Chelsea 4-1 in the final
Season 3 : Won Championship, Retained League Cup, Retained FA Cup on penalties after 4-4 draw with Chelsea, UEFA Cup runner up losing to Barcelona in final
Season 4 : Third in Premier League, Won UEFA Cup (crashed out of both domestic cups early on :-( )
Season 5 : Won Premier League, Won FA Cup, Won League Cup, Won Champions League beating Valencia 9-0 on aggregate in semis, and Real Madrid 4-2 in final!
This was all with a squad that still included these members of the original league two squad as first choices in the fifth season :
Ryan France - right wing
Patrick McCourt - left wing
Andy Holt - left back
...and the Icelandic strike force of Porannin Brynjar Kristjansson and Orri Freyr Oskarsson
... and various other first season players as reliable backups. It was just ridiculous, and I've spoken to other people who had similar success with Hull in that version. Weird!
93/94
nigel clough and chris bart williams :D
CM 92 or so
Nii Lamptey (if you could get the work permit)
End of thread
anyone else remember
the legendary peter prospar guy? he played for Al Nassr and was ridiculously good. and kabba samura, he played in sweden somewhere.
on 01-02 i created an all-conquering ac milan side that pretty much rotated round totti and i swear to god i played a champions league final against barcelona and won 10-8...no one has ever believed me, promised it happened no shit!
i did a russian 2nd division one once with fc ural yekaterinburg (sic) and got promoted, then signed winston parks who was some fucking epic costa rican. those seasons have gone down in folklore with my mates. they all thought i was an idiot for playing in obscure leagues or whatever
in the 98/99 one i had a bayern munich team that went unbeaten in the league for 3 seasons
and won most game 4 or 5 nil. it got boring after a while.
96/97 (I think)
The legendary Marc Emmers - available on a free from the beginning and bloody fantastic!
CAn't believe non's mentioned andri sigporsson
or Tonton Zola Moukoko. Both legends.
Winning the treble (sort of) with Leyton Orient
On 01/02.
Won 3rd Division at first attempt.
Won 2nd Division and Vans Trophy at 3rd attempt (my first double :-D)
Won 1st Division at first attempt.
Then in the Premiership had a couple of years of mid table and kept on getting beat in the League Cup final.
Eventually finished second in the league and the following season got to the champions league semis yet somehow also nearly got relegated.
Then, finally, the elusive League Cup.
The season after: domination :-)
Won the League Cup again, followed by the Premiership and Champions League (thrashed Lazio 4-1 in the final) and only lost in the FA Cup semis to a late penalty.
Currently in 2013/14.
CM3 - Gainsborough Champions League
Played for about 15 odd continuous seasons and took Gainsborough Town to the Champs League.
