amazing book just finished reading it.
I've already read 'Haunted' and 'Fight Club' by him, just wondering what people would recommend as the next best bok of his to read next, or if any one could recommend any other of a similar type to read, please don't bother mentioning Bret Easton Ellis I've read all his books
American Psycho > Glamorama > Lunar Park > Less Than Zero > The Informers > The Rules Of Attraction

I'd go for Survivor.
PS
Dodgy though this sentence sounds, the "rape" scene in Choke is ridiculously funny...
It really is
highlight of the book for me :D
yes it is
especially the 'just keeping asking yourself: "what would Jesus NOT do?" part, also chapter 5 with his explanation for his admiration of the naked man who has the chimp shoving peanuts up his arse had me in stitches too, to people who haven't read the book all of the above would sound so very, very wrong
:D
I'd forgotten about that bit.
for Palahniuk:
Read - Survivor, Lullaby.
Avoid - Diary, Guts.
^this, pretty much
Diary is dire
Guts is just a story in Haunted isn't it ?
Yeah
soz.
:-)
I wasn't taking the piss I just thought he might have expanded on it and released it as a money-spinner, as if i remember in Haunted there is a foreword or epilogue with him banging on about how amazingly shocking that story is, and although i do agree the story is good, it isn't even the best story in that particular book
i had a recording of him reading guts
at a bookstore before haunted came out, someone fainted.
i find it hard to read, but i still like it (and also liked diary, and the rest of haunted) just because i admire words that can give me such an intense reaction.
didn't really like fight club though...
iain banks is a good idea (start with wasp factory), also coupland.
Diary wasn't his finest!
Guts is part of Haunted isn't it?
I don't think Diary's terrible but it's not one of his strongest.
Yeah
soz.
quit apologising you being far too british and non DIS
surely you should be resulting to petty name calling some time soon
Yeah
soz.
dickface.
the wasp factory
or anything else by iain banks?
I agree...
I finished Choke a while back, I'm on Survivor now - equally as good.
I also enjoyed Invisible Monster.
Mirukami I believe is quiet warped like Palahnuik. Maybe him?
That last sentence is a joke right?
To be fair I haven't read any Mirukami
I was just recommended him.
I guess not?
He sometimes warps reality
but comparing him to Palhniuk is like comparing Belle & Sebastian to The Dillinger Escape Plan
I stand corrected.
Though like I said I was told that if I liked Chuck I would like Mirukami
pick any
theyre all pretty much the same, I liked suvivor the most but probably only because it was the first i read, also actually liked diary
Choke
is probably his best IMO.
I'd recommend Survivor, Lullaby and Invisible Monsters (in that order), but give Diary a miss as it's a bit lame.
Wow
The whole world expressed almost exactly the same opinion in the time it took me to type that.
Maybe Alan Warner.
Wrote These Demented Lands. Not exactly like Palahniuk but you'd probably enjoy it.
Alan Warner is Scottish
I've read some Irvine Welsh and although 'Filth' and 'Bedroom secrets of the master chefs' are undoubtedly great, the rest of his works are just pretty much the same, what i'm wondering is does this Warner chap write in the scotch dialect like Welsh or does he write in proper english, as i find parts of Welsh works pretty much unreadable as i'm not an alcoholic scotsman
There is quite a lot of Scottish dialect
in the book, yeah, but it's not hard to read at all. I thought you might like it because it's kinda underground and surreal, and a fantastic read.
It's basically a sequel to Morvern Callar, which I haven't read yet.
Invisible Monster
Was one of my favourites.
Apparently they want to make a film (yes another one) staring Jessica Biel. I couldn't imagine anything worse!
Only read fight club and Lullaby
fight club - ok, 6/10. ending in teh film is better
Lullaby - God awful drivel, 1/10.
Have avoided anything else by him on the basis of this
interesting palahniuk fact
he accidentally outed douglas coupland and himself to an entertainment weekly reporter
Maybe read some Christopher Brookmyre
Not exactly the same but they are darkly funny so if that's your thing they might work for you...
Also 'Choke' has been made into a movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1024715/
it will be out in the autumn over here, i am worried that it will be complete and utter crap as it looks on this trailer http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/movie/choke/trailers/5756
It's got a good cast though!
I'm still a bit hopeful
Try some Tom Robbins
Funnier than Palahniuk but equally fucked up. I'd recommend Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates or Skinny Legs and All.
I always suggest Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow. That's pretty Palahniukian (Palahniukesque?).
amy hempel
is his biggest influence try her
I may read this next.
I just finished Curious incident of the dog in the night time. Great read!
Any other books worth a read??
