bands of all time and had the potential to fucking great. But that was never realized
because everybody was to busy jerking of over nirvana. DiScuss.

I think they're great
I had a Sunday indoors alone a few weeks ago, and i just sat in the dark and listened to the whole of Just For A Day really loud. I had been out since the Friday so i was feeling quite fragile...but this really helped me feel better. I'd recommend them to anyone who has even a passing interest in quite psychedelic yet chilled out music.
Nirvana you say? I thought they got lumped in with My Bloody Valentine/Red House Painters as a shoegaze band or something...but then i would have been something like 5 or 6 in 91/92 and had no idea of what the hype (or lack of) was like surrounding them.
This may be heresy
but I like Mojave 3 even more than I like Slowdive. And that's a lot.
Machine Gun
Is Brilliant. Literally perfect song.
Slowdive had released an album
and three astounding EPs before most people even knew who Nirvana were. The problem with the music press at the time was pretty much the way it is now to be honest - a north/south, working/middle class divide thing that should never have been allowed to exist. I interviewed them around 91 for a fanzine I was writing for at the time. Happy days!
^^
inspired me to put this on. Congratulations- you are correct.
aye
one of my top 5 bands of all time... their sound varied alot over the eps and 3 albums, they were brilliant live too. the continuation into mojave 3 was ace as well.
anyone here catch them on the souvlaki tour co-healiner with cranes? went to a few of those and they were just amazing.
Yep
Me! My favourite shows were with The Telescopes though on their 'Precious Little' tour.
ah yes
have the feeling i saw em at the new cross venue on that one. or was that with the belltower... argh. my memory is shot.
I was at that New Cross gig!
It was just The Telescopes and The Belltower, June 1991. Small world innit!
yeah one of my biggest regrets is not being born 20 year years earlier
so I never even had the chance to see them live :(
Good thread.
I also think that Chapterhouse were and are unfairly overlooked.
Saw them live a few times
too. Good around the time of the 'Freefall' and 'Sunburst' EPs but not so great a few years later when they tried jumping on the dance/Britpop bandwagon.
Was it the Manics who said:
"Slowdive are worse than Hitler"?
It SOUNDS like something they'd say.
yup they did
they were a funny bunch. i put them on in salisbury during the generation terrorists tour. really nice guys.
I was a shoegazer back then
Looking through a fringe at bands like Slowdive, Telescopes, Pale Saints, Ride back in the day. Some great gigs, EP's, indie club nights. Black jeans, DM's, band t-shirts or stripey tops. Ahhhhh......memories. The first couple of Slowdive EP's still sound great. Can't recall if they played my local indie emporium "The Pink Toothbrush" in Raleigh, Essex back in the day???
Morningrise EP..
...gets my vote - Morningrise, She Calls, Losing Today... all amazing songs
Has everyone heard all their demo's
it's where all their best stuffs hidden away.
