2 Cds worth of the good and the great working over the songs. Some work, some don't but it makes a very good companion piece if you can't get enough oceanic in your life.
Has lovely production but i reckon its all a bit so-so after the first two tunes. All the good ideas are in those first two songs and then the rest is a bit like ambient padding and half realised instrumentals and such like. The Other is immense though, particularly when the guitar kicks in with the choppy/bouncy rythm towards the end. You can tell they're pure potheads just by the way its produced, mind.
On a related note, I got Herbie Hancock's 'Maiden Voyage' recently - that's another 'ocean' themed album - very different obviously but the vibe is remarkably similar on the title track - the drums've got that same sorta feel. If you're interested.
ISIS=WOW
all the time!
yeah
haha.
I *cough* downloaded *cough*
their whole discography recently, it is brilliant. I had the pleasure of seeing them at ATP at the Vs. The fans and they were immense.
have you heard the remix album

Did that get a proper release?
because i only have it on download and sitting at the computer is not the way to experience Isis
I have it on CD...
...think it was released over four vinyl t'ings too.
Yes it did, on Ipecac & Robotic Empire I think
The remixes by Hecker, Fennesz and Mike Patton are highlights for me.

How you can call something like Carry
ambient padding is completely beyond me
Well yeah
That's the opposite of ambient. But it ain't very good is it?
It is
probably one of their more obvious songs but it brings the rock as much as anything on the album and is important for the whole concept ting
you aren't allowed
to say bad things about isis in this thread :P
Agreed!
Funnily enough I'm listening to Celestial for the first time in ages, then I stumbled across this thread.
I love Oceanic, but can never decide if it is my favourite of theirs.
