he's become such an easy target but it's always worth remembering that despite the over-eagerness of leftists everywhere, he is/was/will ever be an appalling president.

If it hadn't been for the war on terror

he'd probably have been a one termer

i don't think that

if he had one month of stirring speeches to a wounded, post-9/11 US and some limited military responses in Pakistan and Afghanistan - probably one of the most well remembered presidents of all time. i cannot fathom how a president who was in charge for something like 9/11 could have screwed it up so badly.

i never knew

Truman was that unpopular, was that as a direct result of the atomic bomb or later in his presidency?

Korean War most likely

Had reached a stalemate by this point; McCarthyism also succeeded in making people pretty sure Communists were at work in his administration after China went Communist in 1949 and USSR got the bomb.

that makes sense

the early 50s must have been a really unpleasant time to be a liberal in America.

howso?

my knowledge of him isn't brilliant, but his record on civil rights aside he didn't seem that bad - mexico, alaska, speedy reconstruction of the south all seemed well handled.

The Reconstruction

was completely and utterly botched.

Robert Mugabe

is worse

Is how good or bad

a president or prime minister was, actually determined by popularity then?

The two things may be linked, but they aren't synchronous.

A president might preside over a very hard time (even doing rather well with difficult circumstances) but because of wider events, that make the factors that people vote on worse, the people just think that they are personally selfishly worsze off and stupidly base their opinion on that.

On the other hand at a time when wider events make the factors improve (irrelevant of presidential policies) the stupid electorate might approve more.

Remember democracy is a great idea, but most of the electorate vote on selfish short sighted issues, the mass electorate dont vote according to deep understanding and analysis. They vote according to popular(i.e. ignorant) opinion (its made ignorant by media)

Herbert Hoover

He was actually a damn good president, before the Great Depression. It's a shame he's just remembered for that.

I can't wait for him to go

so we don't have to put up with the tired "So, George Bush eh???" jokes on various 'satirical' panel shows on TV.

South Africa's future president is a strong contender for next year!

He dropped out of school at 10.
He raped an HIV positive woman and got off scott free and he was involved in a giant gun running scandal which resulted in him stealing £3 million worth of tax payers money.

Best part. He promised the poor people of South Africa that when he becomes president he will take all the county's money and divided up amongst them.

Oh and he calls himself the next Nelson Mandela.

Bless Jacob Zuma!
