#47: Phoebe Killdeer & The Short Straws
Firstly, props to Phoebe Killdeer for having the gall - or seeing as they're Frenchies, should that be the Gaul? – to call her backing band the Short Straws. As far as we can tell, they couldn't care less, and why would you if your job was noodling away, providing sweet sweet skiffling rockabilly music for a lady who comes over like Françoise Hardy doing her best to chat up Eddie Cochran.
Phoebe used to sing with coffee table cover version mechants Nouvelle Vague, but she's now fronting her own Paris-based gang of sassy blues-poppers. Their debut album, Weather's Coming… is out on May 5, and features the slinky Paranoia and ode to dumping He's Gone (below).
The band embark on a mini tour of the UK starting on May 11 in Nottingham – but if you can't make it, simply while away the hours on her MySpace page. It's almost as much fun.
