I'm looking for overdrive/distortion pedals on ebay and at the moment I'm just sticking to looking for Boss pedals. Boss is the only brand I've ever really trusted but it's only Behringer that I know I should avoid
For someone with £50 per pedal budget can you recommend some other good brands? Thanks!

ProCo Rat.
You can easily get one on ebay for under £50. I paid 27 for mine. they are brilliant and really reliable. I have heard good things about Electro Harmonix as well. I would say pro co is the way to go for distortion/overdrive though. what kind of music you play?
RATs are awesome, I've used one for about 6 years now
hasn't failed on me once. The filters can cut through anything... the trick with them is to use them into a slightly dirty sounding amp.
my rat 2 sounds rubbish
I was really disapointed because I had heard they were supposed to be the best distortion going, then I read on a site that mods pedals they refuse to mod recent ones because the quality is so bad it would be too expensive to bring them up to scratch so try and get an old one as I think they have really gone downhill. The danelectro fabtone (dd-1) despite the cheesy name and looks is the most extreme distortion ive heard and would recomend it, its what mogwai and mono use for their complete wall of sounds. My sovtek big muff is the most fun pedal I have but unfortunately the bypass mode is really muffled. Also behringer do make some good products its worth trying them out at least.
i like the fabtone.
the only trouble is that its horribly scooped, so although its a big wall of sound it gets a little lost. however, if you pair it with an eq pedal you can eq in a mid hump which means that not only is it big and noisy but it also sounds massive and really blasts through the mix.
i like my rats. i have two of them. planning on modding them though, i'm gonna put in a pot on one to do an adjustable ruetz mod, and put in one of the original ICs to replace the ones they put in now. just curious to see if i can get a sound i prefer.
on ebay
you MIGHT be able to get ZOOM ultra fuzz UF-01, i use it and its amazing.
i use one of these too
it's my favourite pedal - plus imo they can sound quite unique
It's
worth increasing your budget. Buy half as many top notch pedals.
dude!
pro co is cool, but lil big muff now only £35 at shockingly Dawsons music!! lol.
under £100 pro co and lil big muff are best options. Boss have a very flat digital sound i find and loose mids in alot of pedals.
Also apparenlty new lil big muff is true bypass.
Ooooh!
I'd recommend Marshall Bluesbreaker (the old big black ones, not the new silver ones) for a nice little overdrive. A ProCo Rat is good for getting a bit noisier.
actually yeah the marshall govnor is worth a look
too.
used to have the old black one
sounded superb until it passed away.
Cheers
quite a few makes I hadn't heard of, will check them out
get a digitech hot rod
