i can't decide whether 'ribs out' is a great and interesting inclusion on the album or just abit pointless?
do you think it offers anything extra to listeners or not?

it overs any less than any other song on the album.
so yes, i think its pointless.
Ribs Out is fantastic
I love the tribal drums and those delay screams are to die for- good screams those. And screaming is a definite motif on the record. Ribs Out is short and I think a beautiful segueway from the sweet opener to the more sinister middle tracks.

follows on from 'Sweet Love..' and sets up 'Okay Lets Talk About Magic' perfectly i feel.

proper reminds me of Throbbing Gristle, more specifically the live Berlin at the end of 20 Jazz Funk..., i think its really good. Wish i'd caught them on tour :( but are the rumours of them supporting Foals true? if so that would be immense, would mash up the 16 year olds that will inevitably be at the gig...

my post was pretty similar. i dont get them. to me it just sounds like noise music polished over and with the edges filed down, made for people who cant stomach Whitehouse or Prurient. thee is nothing in it that excites me, and for how much they try to create an organic sound on songs such as 'sweet love...' it all sounds so...forced.

I think the Nathan Barley thing
is just their name. It would fit in quite well to an episode, there is even a brilliant phrase Fuck Zip in that program and Fuck Buttons aint to far removed its just another method of fastening.

i agree with you in part
its a shame that fuck buttons seem to be the 'quirky out-there' band that foals and vampire weekend listeners are interested in...but as an avid noise fan, i love the album, despite its self-consciousness; i think it offers something new to noise as a whole. plus not all noise is characterised by harsh power electronics acts such as whitehouse and prurient...if fuck buttons gets one more person to listen to more noise, its certainly a good thing in my book!

i think you misunderstood my point. all i was saying is that when people think of noise they think of harsh stuff like whitehouse and prurient and its not all like that. and you're right i wouldn't listen to whitehouse as if it was pop music, if someone did that it would be completely pointless.
i think people are hostile to noise because of bands like whitehouse and as a consequence something like the fuck buttons album is ultimately a good thing.
