Gender-neutral love songs

I was listening to "Anyone Else But You" by the Moldy Peaches (never heard of it before juno came out) and the first time I heard it, I thought it was two boys singing to each other. You have to admit, Kimya does sound like a young boy..

and it struck me that it was incredibly honest and cute and I wished it WAS two boys singing to each other. You just don't hear that very often..

So.. my question is.. are there any other songs that sound like this that are by two guys?

I don't want any songs that make sure to point out that they're gay, just something honest and simple and calm. Think "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John, but gay.

rolf rolled

I hate that you tainted that lovely song. Rolf Harris don't suffer fool.

cute but

definitely not the kind of feel I was looking for.

i can't think of any gender-neutral love songs just now

so i think the best way to remedy that is to write some.

true

but I am not a musician... I write lyrics, and I can hear the music in my head, but I have no band to play it for me. Isn't that the worst?

it is the worst.

i don't have a band either, so i just have to write songs for myself. i think i was just telling myself to write some gender-neutral love songs.

by the way, i think all of the love songs Husker Du wrote would be what you're looking for. Grant Hart and Bob Mould are gay, so, y'know... although Husker Du aren't so quiet, more loud and hardcore punk. but still definitely awesome.

nice

lets see.. husker du? not bad. I like the few that I listened too... hmm..

and good luck with your lyrics. just because they're silent now, doesn't mean they always will be!

i've heard two girlies doing it

(Heart Beats Red) but not boys. sorries.

i think it's less taboo for girls to do it?

since girls call each other 'girlfriends', but boys don't call each other 'boyfriends' or anything.

bah

I can't find any songs or videos by them..

can you help me out?

urg neither can i.

though i did search one of the girls from the band and came up with this band:
boys of summer
http://www.myspace.com/boysof
but i think they only have one singer from what i'm listening to right now, no cute back and forth vocals that you're asking for. and rather melancholic. sorry.

also, this album is likely to have what you're looking for?

i've never heard it, but well, you know, it's Mirah. singing with girls from what this page impresses upon me...

well

they sound good. kind of bad recordings but.. yeah. I like the melancholy of it though. I'll have to check it out some more later..

thanks for trying though. but tell me, where have you heard of heart beats red? at a concert or..?

oh many many years ago i had a 7" of theirs.

i gave it away when i moved and didn't bring my record player with me...
but if you think that that other band has bad recording then haha.. Heart Beats Red were a billion times more fuzzy.. :)
i'm still searching though as i'm determined to find it now..i'll post if i do!

(i continue this search so as to prove to myself

that i didn't just make up this band!)
found a comp called "calling all kings and queens" which i searched on soulseek and there is indeed a song by Heart Beats Red on there called Set Me Up. *phew!* i didn't just imagine them!

...I believed you from the start

there were three compilations that had a song by heart beats red that I found on google...

but it's nice to know I guess, haha.

girls

are fine too. by gay I meant boys and girls.. I probably should have mentioned that.

I love calm, indie-ish music, and I just never hear anything from the other side.

Sia would fall into that category

y'know, the girl who used to sing with Zero 7? Also Tegan and Sara, who write songs with specific "she"s and "her"s (but they're not singing it to each other - they're twins, not lovers). I'd definitely recommend T&S.

sounds nice

I'll definitely look them up today!

but they are both gay

true!

a what?

I always use the name lovely.

I didn't really like juno, but I did like the song. people have different musical tastes, and if you didn't like it, that's fine by me, but don't be a dick about it.

Tim, wish you were born a girl,

wish you were born a girl,
So I could've been your boyfriend.
I know it's not possible now.
I just never met a girl I like half as much as you.

And we could lay around in bed, stay there all day,
Or at least until the afternoon
And I could make you spaghetti with tomato sauce
With just a touch of oregano and a parsley stem.

And then when you got sick,
I could take the day off work.
I could've made you chicken soup,
And we could watch soap operas
- oh, those TV dramas!
I could catch your cold
And you could take care of me.

If I could've met you at school, or met you at work,
It would have changed everything.
Those years of losing, confusion and insecurity,
They would have been shared,
They would have been easier.

Tim, wish you were born a girl,
wish you were born a girl,
So I could've been your fiancé.
I'm not saying you can't be all these things for me,
But it's just not the same because you're a man,
And so am I.

yeah,

I've heard of this song, but I've yet to hear it... it's on my to do list. thanks for confirming it, though!

I'd say almost all love songs

are gender neutral, in that only a couple of bands say words like 'girl' or 'she' in them, which makes me sad beause I know they're singing it to another guy a lot of the time

haha

very cute.

i feel like a lot of Belle & Sebastian songs

could sorta fall into this category?

really?

I'll have to find a few more songs by them, thanks!

I'm a lesbian, you're a lesbian,

we are lesbians, singing in the rain.

:)

haha

"Early on, Katina and Volkova were presented as a lesbian couple but their 2003 documentary, Anatomy of t.A.T.u., made it clear that this was just part of the group's image, and that they were not lesbians."
I'm sure this is completely correct and not a cover-up in any way.

but I'll check them out now..

"I Love You All The Time"

by Oh No! Oh My!

Kind of an inverted love song though.

that made me laugh

great sound, not so nice lyrics. inverted love song is right.

the idea of what you're

looking for sounds a bit horrible. Non-gender specific songs are quite common. I think all Smiths songs are.

really?

I'm looking through my playlist, and most of them are straight, and a small handful are non-gender specific..

I think you're right about the smiths, though...

androgynous

Replacements

oh my god

this song is amazing. I know a couple that fit this song so well. thank you!!!

it's still ok,

I liked it!

To be alone with you

Sufjan Stevens...amazing song :)

oh wow

I liked this one too!

The Pooka Sings

By Final Fantasy

I think its a love song, not quite sure. its good though.

for some reason i always try and dance to it when its on, and just end up sort of nodding with my whole body in time to each bit on the strings and gurning happily at the same time. good times.
