As the season is nearly at an end and only a handful of teams are playing for anything, who/what does your team need to add to their squad to compete more next season.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/7381027.stm
And on that fella's insistence, who do you need to get rid of.
As an Arsenal fan we obviously need to replace Flamini and probably Hleb it seems now. Yaya Toure would be lovely if the next Barcelona manager is an idiot. More realistically Ben Arfa as a replacement for Hleb and a decent young centre back to gradually replace one of the current two. A top class goalie wouldn't go a miss either. Possibly a striker though I have high hopes for Eduardo when he gets back.Oh and fingers crossed we finally see the back of Eboué.
What are your thoughts?

Liverpool
Will probably see the back of; Riise, Voronin, Kewell and unfortunately Alonso and Crouch.
Barry would be the obvious replacement for Xabi but I'm not sure he would really progress the team.
Definately need to look at bringing in quality wingers and then perhaps developing Babel into the top striker he could be. Wouldn't mind putting in a bid for Henry.
Left back is a must. Lahm?
Henry would be a waste of money for us, I think.
We need a support striker, not an out and out front man. I don't know where we'd start looking though, to be honest. I'd really like Crouch to stay, he gives us something else. Get rid of Kuyt instead.
Everyone's raving about Barry, but I don't really like him. I'd rather sign someone like Elano, but that's not going to happen. Also re:winger- Bentley all the way.
Riise Voronin Kewell out
then perhaps Crouch, Alonso and Pennant though I would like these three to stay. If Alonso goes Barry wouldnt be too bad... think the idea is for him to cover left wing and left back to. Plessis and Leiva look like they could develop enough next season. I'd love to start the season with Insua at left back but not sure that's going to happen... Looks like we will sign Phillip Degen at left back who looks OK but nothing special Arbeloa2. Bentley looks amazing... I'm wary of signing big players from mid table teams - Bellamy, Pennant didn't work out but Bentley does seem quality. I'd love Henry for a couple of seasons too but only for less than 10 mill... I reckon he could help to make Babel world class.
^
We need a top-drawer striker, a right-winger, an attacking central midfielder and a left-back. Obviously progress depends on having a happy dressing room, and we definitely don't have that at the minute. I think four of our back five - Hart, Corluka, Dunne & Richards would stand a chance of getting into any side in the league, they're all steady players and have all had good seasons. I'd like us to go for Steven Whittaker of Rangers for left-back, i've seen him play a few times this year and he looks excellent. In midfield, and assuming we keep the 4-5-1, i'm happy enough with Hamman & Gelson sharing the holding midfielder's position (the latter who i think will be a top PL player in a couple of years), and Johnson & Ireland sharing the other central role, with Elano and a new signing making up the orher place between them. On the left, Petrov is brilliant, but we're really unbalanced and need someone like him on the right. I think we should go for broke, break the bank for someone like Quaresma or Robinho (both of which are said to be unhappy), or failing that either Bentley from Blackburn, Valencia from Wigan or even someone steady like Milner from Newcastle. Then upfront we need to spend big, we need a real targetman and a front for the team, someone in the mould of Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney or Drogba, but obviously not one of those. I can't really think of one off the top of my head, but maybe a Fabiano, or even Terry Henry, which might not be as unrealistic as it sounds, or even to a lesser extent someone like Kenwyne Jones. I also like Zarate at Birmingham. I just hope we don't sign Ronaldinho, but it looks very likely that we will. Going out, well, lots of shit on free transfers first of all - Danny Mills, Paul Dickov, Bernardo Corradi, Geovanni, Matthew Mills, Schmeichel, Sun Jihai. Andreas Isaksson will leave, probably get a million or so for him. Rolando Bianchi's agreed an £8m move to Lazio, and Samaras might stay at Celtic for around £2.5m. Were Sven to have stayed then i'd have thought that subject to these improvements we could've had a real go at top six next year, maybe sneak to a cup final, who knows? As it is, i'm not sure i'd be that confident about us doing anything at all. The most important signing of the summer for us will be a new contract for Richard Dunne.
And a decent manager
McLaren for City!
'I
just hope we don't sign Ronaldinho' - I never thought I'd hear a Man City fan say that!
I'd like
Van Buyten to give us a bit more power and dominance in the air, watchign Adebayor win everything in the air against us was a bit depressing.
We also need a left back (desperately) Lahm would be good but anyone who's quick and can tackle would be good.
Agree completely on the need for a right midfielder, Shauny would be great if chelsea want rid.
Striker wise I was quite pleased when we were being linked to Fred.
We need Sun Jihai and Garrido gone and to get Samaras, Corradi and Dickov offf the wage bill.
.
arsenal ought to keep hleb. but get rid of toure, make someone else captain other than gallas, and get a quality striker. pato might be a good one though i don't know if AC would let him go
madness
toure is one of the few decent defenders in the squad!
.
yes i meant eboue. oops
having said that arsene better start playing toure in his proper position again
you mean eboue rather than toure right?
otherwise you are mental.
This
I've lost count of the number of times Toure comes flying in from nowhere to make up for someone else's mistake. Personally I'd rate him above Gallas. Admittedly he's looked dodgy at right back but so would most centre backs if you stuck them out there in Arsenal's system where they have to provide the width.
who is the best realistically available influential centre back aged 25-28 in the world?
Arsenal should sign him. And a dogged Flamini replacement. And a quick winger. Get rid of Eboue, he's a fool.
You couldn't afford Richard Dunne!
Dun Dun DUUUUUUNNNNNNE
Bolton
who is probably going...
Campo (past it)
Diouf (needs new challenge)
Jaaskeleinen (was always heading off)
Stelios (hope not, great squad player to have around)
Braaten (shite)
Meite (twat)
Rasiak (i really, really, hope)
Helguson (always injured)
Andranik (hope not, looked like he had a bit of potential)
Alonso (all but disappeared)
in terms of coming in, there needs to be alot of new faces...been linked with muamba who i'm abit indifferent about and don't think its a primary position of concern...also i think guthrie should be secured on a permanent. i wouldnt mind grabbing sonko from reading, if he's on his way out and also zarate looks good but we clearly have no chance getting him.
ebanks-blake from wolves would be worth a go i think and out of all the shitty no-mark forwards we get linked with, i'd probably go for david nugent. we've also been linked with crewe's nicky maynard, who i used to play against back in the day, but he needs at least another injury-free season at crewe before his true potential can be measured.
also, get ben haim back!!!
this should happen!
He's going
Spurs.
I care more about holding on to the current players
than bringing anyone else in. But someone who can do a better job than Reid, and someone to at least give Peds a slight challenge for starting position would be fine by me.
Everton
David Moyes has been promised a massive £20m budget! Hmm, so a few more utility players and lots of interest in midfielders who won't come to Everton. Four loan signings at five to midnight on deadline day.
Chelsea
We have loads still to play for but I'll still take part.
Drogba looks to be off in the summer and replacing him is a must, although I can't see who we could buy as a like for like replacement.
I can see Bridge, Sidwell, Shevchenko, Pizarro and Ben Haim also leaving, the first of that list being the only one that I'd be even remotely bothered about.
We're trying to sign Messi but I think the chances are it won't happen, Henry on the other hand looks a lot more likely.
I would be looking to sign Dani Alves from Sevilla, failing that Philip Lahm. I wouldn't mind us signing Berbatov providing we play someone up with him like Anelka/Kalou. He won't be able to do the lone front man job that Drogba does so expertly.
I wonder who will sign Arshavin, looking forward to see how he performs in the premiership.
i'll leave it to Brian Laws
to choose the transfer targets, and who we can realistically get
Spurs
well we already have Modric, so thats one position sorted out. Beyond that we will get rid of the fringe/squad players.
need a new GK for sure, a new decent centre back to partner woodgate/provide cover for King if he ever gets fit (which i now doubt, massive shame, he improves us massively) get rid of chimbonda, get Bale (L) fit.
Midfield, Jena and Modric look like a decent pairing in the middle, or maybe push one out wide and get a decent holding midfield player to support the other. Maybe sell Lennon, as he doesnt look like really breaking through or improving to become a truly decent player, as much as he was exciting.
If berbatov leaves then we need at least one new top quality striker (possibly villa), and if not and we can get something for Bent then id let him go and sign someone else.
As a Chelsea bod
I can't really fault Galactic's logic. I wouldn't mind swapping Wright-Phillips for Bentley. And depending on the Cudicini situation, we may need a good reserve keeper.
I would like to see Bentley at Chelsea too..
..you managed to cover the bit that I forgot to include. ;)
Good reserve keeper?
Other than Hilarious we have Rhys Taylor, Welsh Under-21's finest!!
Really hope we can hang onto Drogba and it appears that Frank may be staying too which would be good!
I agree
although Milito would be a good signing too, I reckon.
We need to get rid of Bent, get a reliable 3rd choice striker (who doesn't mind sitting on the bench 90% of the time) and a new right or left (or both, depending on where Bale's going to play) winger.
So that's only about 5 players with European pedigree :P
United
Get rid:
Saha-never plays and too inconsistent
Not sure about anyone else...maybe a couple of youngesters. Pique might go, but I'd like to keep him really, a young centre back/midfielder who looks good on the ball. It's whether he wants to play first team football now, or in the near future though. He'll probably play 10/15 matches next season, like this season, but centre backs often don't come to their best until 25ish.
Silvestre will probably stay, can't really see him being that bothered about playing every game, when he hasn't for the last 9 years. Would be second choice left back and decent cover.
Buy:
A striker, possibly Huntelaar if not Berbatov.
A right back would be good, but considering how well Wes Brown has been this season in that position, and the fact that we have Hargreaves who is also competent there/Neville possibly back and O'Shea, it's not a pressing concern.
United
are in talks with Jose Bosingwa aren't they? Maybe I just believe too much red top rubbish. That seems an odd transfer- all of Man Utds old guard (Scholes, Giggs) have young replacements so Neville is the next one.
As a neutral Premiership fan I look forward to seeing where Barry ends up. the £10 million value passed around seems really low when you consider unproven and uncapped Ashley Young was £12mil and SWP was something mental like £24mil. 18 million seems like a more realistic value for an international regular/ club captain.
I really wish Arsene Wenger would grow a pair and invest heavily in some top quality players who are already established. His youth policy is incredible but it would be good.
Finally Sunderland is going to be worth watching- Keanes attitude towards money and players is bordering on nihilistic. He won't attract any top players to Wearside and seems to have a limited knowledge of up and coming stars. I would expect to see him getting taken for a ride this Summer.
So I have read on the odd forum...
Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if we did buy a right back, but a striker is more important now.
Manucho has scored a few for Panathanaikos since getting games, did well in the ACN, but I think Fergie bought him with the intention of being a 4th choice striker to play in the Carling Cup games, come off the bench every now and then, in the short term at least. It would be a big risk to have him as a third choice really. Might take a while to adapt to the Premiership, but looks like a strong centre forward.
I fear
Manucho could be the new Dong.
It all depends
if Keano can keep Evans for a third year. They're a far better team with him than without.
I wouldn't say he has little knowledge - he just can't attract them. For all our bemoaning Richardson is a top, top player for a club like Sunderland, when fit. Kwenye Jones has been a good buy too, though doesn't get enough goals.
He's got about 1/4 of a team, basically.
United
Out: Saha. Possibly Fletcher; though I don't want to see him go, he should be playing week in week out for someone - he's too good for the limited role he gets with us, which leads to people thinking he's not all that. Pique I'd like to see stay, but if we sign a right back I can see him going - Brown would be 3rd choice central defence and Johnny Evans is coming back from Sunderland, who is arguably as good a prospect and more likely to bide his time. Perhaps send Cathcart and Welbeck out on loan for some experience and give Campbell a chance in the first team.
In: Benzema would be ace, but I don't think Lyon will let him go without a fight. Lahm would be a good full back choice, but Bayern probably aren't our best buddies. The completely unrealistic, we don't actually need him anyway but I always liked him part of me would love to see Rossi back at United, but we don't really need him with Rooney AND Tevez - a strong striker is the main priority.
I wouldn't rule out that kid from Sporting too, brought in for the long term, despite the fact we're sorted in midfield.
Arsenal
I'd be happy with only one or two signings, Flamini will probably need replacing although Denilson may be able to fill in for him. I think we'll need an attacking midfielder to replace rosicky as I don't think he'll ever be fit enough to play a series of games, the same could be said of Van Persie which is a shame. Eboue, although a knob, should probably not be sold but should not be first choice and should be trusted at right back over toure if Sagna's out.
However I don't think a major overhaul is needed, we were close this year.
Birmingham City
The massive irony is that we need to get rid off pretty much everyone except Larsson, Mcfadden, Zarate and perhaps Jaidi. Unfortunately these are exactly the players we're going to lose by dropping down to the fizzy pop league.
jaidi!
back at bolton! i wish!
Celtic
I think we have a good squad as it is but there's a few improvements that could be made.
We need a striker. Samaras is NOT the answer, not for £2.5m anyway...
We need another centre back to compete with the McManus and Caldwell. O'Dea deserves a chance.
We need a better back up goalie, I don't think Mark Brown is up to the task.
We need a left bank. Naylor is good but he needs competition to get him playing at his full capacity, he's looked quite laboured recently.
Not too sure what else, we have a very good squad, just need to figure out our best 11.
Leicester
Kisnorbo, Hume, McAuley, Mattock, Stearman, Clemence, Oakley & Howard will all be touted by clubs (not sure who'll go and who'll stay)
Hayles better NOT be there next season
Everyone else who earns more than £47.50/week will be sold
Mandaric will fuck off
A team consisting of unknown youth and few old heads will prevail and secure an instant return to the land of cola (please!!)
I'll email you my guide to
the grounds of League 1 Mr Leicester.
Enjoy!
^optomistic
No my email account
works just fine!
LOL
anyway, surely League 1 is just another region of the land of cola?
And fizzy Cola goes well
with Walker's Crisps I hear...
we (spurs) will need a new GK (or two) probably.
no idea who though. and a left mid - Bilyaletdinov from loco moscow has been mentioned.
other than that the only transfer target for us is keeping berbatov for another year.
QPR
I think we need a whole new back four. I'd like to loan Cranie again, as he looked so composed before he broke his leg. Fitz Hall looks OK, but we need a centre back who inspires confidence in everyone around him. Who this mythical man is I do no know.
Looks like Cerny is coming from Spurs. I like Lee Camp, but if he got injured we'd be fucked so good work.
We also need a dog of a DM who can clean up and let Buzz unleash hell.
I'd also like a poacher of a striker.
The biggest signing would definitely be keeping Gigi as manager - he knows what he's doing and has got us playing some great stuff. Keep it on the deck in the Championship and you'll rip people apart.
anyone know anything
about this chap?
Bafetimbi Gomis...apparently bolton are linked with him
i know that
Bolton are linked with him.
Token Charlton post
Another massive overhaul of the squad is probably not a good idea, it also won't be happening seeing as we have no money.
I think there is some quality in the squad, but they all bottled it toward the end of the season. The pressure to go straight back up was too much for them. We probably still need a good 4 or 5 new players, it's a shame we don't still have Andy Reid because someone like him would be perfect right now.
Pardew seems to be lumping all of next seasons hopes on a 16 year old academy player.
Hendon
No-one that 'needs' to be got rid of, although in true Non-League tradition, we'll lose a few players to other clubs for various reasons. I'd expect 'keeper Dickie Wilmot to retire (possibly stay on as a coach?), and I'm fairly sure that we're losing a defender to America.
As for strengthening: a new first choice keeper to replace Wilmot, as many defenders as possible and a target-man would be good. We could do worse than Sam Tanner in goal (Leyton's first choice this season) since I'm sure he'd be available and affordable. Difficult to come up with names that we'd be likely to be able to get for the other spots - I'm sure ht27 could think of a few though.
Bristol City
Regardless of whether or not we go up we badly need a source of goals.
Trundle seemed to finally click into place on Saturday and it'd be great if he can maintain that next season but, even if he can, we need another striker who gets goals. Brooker's not been fit for a couple of seasons but, even now he is, I don't see him as a regular Championship goalscorer. Nor are Byfield or Adebeola. I'm not sure who we'd get in but this season at least (I think this season'll be tougher) a 20 (or even 15) a season striker was the difference between the play-offs and promotion.
Aside from that the squad certainly doesn't need mass changes. A bit more strength in depth perhaps but our first XI are pretty solid.
Obviously above applies if still in Championship
If we go up we'll need much more quality to have a chance of staying up...
11 new players would be nice
but more realistically, i'd like to see Carroll stay, Mears, Leacock, Barnes, Villa, Sterjovski and er... that's about it. Miller will leave, Earnshaw will leave, and i wo't be too unhappy about either departure. Maybe Claude Davies can stay, but he needs to learn how not to be such a fucking liability.
Stubbs can probably do a job in the championship but we need to let Big Dave go as although he gives his all, he is simply not a good enough footballer.
