what is the general consensus? while x&y might not have been a great record it is surely hard to deny that a rush of blood was the perfect response to parachutes, which was itself a great debut.
i know they get a lot of stick and since i often see them as a *guilty* pleasure of mine i was just wondering whether my embarrassment is justified.

are they liked or loathed on this forum?

It's cool to hate Coldplay

Therefore I don't like them.

Occasionally some good songs

Clocks, despite being overplayed to death, is very much "a tune".And Parachutes is definitely an above-average album.

But Chris Martin is a terrible, terrible lyricist. And X&Y was pretty naff.

I like Parachutes

Not a fan of everything else

Meh

I think that sums it up

Im not really bothered but it doesn't really offend me or anything

Parachutes will always remind me........

of inter railing with my then girlfriend in the summer of 2000.

She was one of those 4 albums a year types and I got to hear that album a lot.

2000?

For some reason I thought you were one of these 17 year olds!

My friend declared 'Shiver' was my song aged about 14.

As I was amazed to find

on looking at your profile!

Parachutes showed some promise

the rest of it is pretty mediocre. Don't hate it though that laboured, plonking piano thing they do irks me a bit. They more suffer from being played lots and hence being forced upon people who aren't keen.
