I've contributed a song to a compilation album of bands from County Durham. It's been put out by a lovely bunch of people who've just started a record label to help out bands in Durham.
The aim of the album is clearly to get a bit of exposure for bands in Durham. The label have managed to get a couple of tracks off the album played on Radio1, on Huw Stephens' Radio1 show, and were part of the 'My Scene' feature on Steve Lamacq's R1 show.
In addition to this, it would be nice to get the songs on the album reviewed by websites / fanzines / magazines etc., for a bit of exposure of the bands (mine included, this isn't an entirely selfless act, I'll admit).
The local ones are covered, so I'm thinking about maybe sending out the compilation (or getting the label to do so).
Drowned in Sound accepts demos/albums, but I imagine DiS recieves million of singles/demos/albums every day, what are the chances that this compilation getting a listen and a review? Is this the kind of thing DiS would be interested in listening to? I dunno!
Any advice for where I could look to get a review of the album (websites/fanzines etc) would be very much appreciated. I'll accept it's unlikely the likes of the NME or Rolling Stone or even OMM will sniff at this, but if there's any media which might be interested in this kind of thing, lemme know.
Cheers, hope that all makes sense...

start with local fanzines.
then independent radio shows. Try John Kennedy aswell, he sometimes likes stuff like that.
The local fanzines are covered
and a friend of mine will be playing some of the tracks off the album on Durham Student Radio.
Do magazines like Stool Pigeon accept stuff like this? Anyone had any experience with a similar escapade?
I'd pick out good UK blogs
yousendit them the album on mp3 in a zip file with artwork, then email the link to them.
Chase them up a week later. The magic.
That's not a bad idea.
I'll have to find some UK blogs though. I know there's a huge list somewhere on DiS forums, so I'll have a search.
Cheers for the advice :)

no problem
I hope it helps
Yeah, I might actually get round to doing this
when I have a bit more time, but a quick question...
What's the general concensus on sending individual tracks? As in, say I can't be bothered to send an entire album, and I just want to send in one track to be reviewed? You don't often see it, I guess. Could be sent in as a 'single'? Except the track in question isn't being released as a 'single', it's being released as part of a compilation CD...
What do you reckon?
