Making a disc y'see, summertime vibes for the journey to work. About three minutes a track will hit the spot, each will be a joyous up-tempo life-affirming frisson of pop sensibility. Depressing lyrics are, however, allowed.

So far I have the below;

Alkaline Trio - Mercy Me
Ash - Burn Baby Burn
Baby Chaos - Hello
Bad Religion - Los Angeles is Burning
China Drum - Can't Stop These Things
The Cribs - Men's Needs
The Descendents - I'm the One
Foos - Monkey Wrench
Fountains of Wayne - Stacey's Mom
Frank Black - If It Takes All Night
Get Up Kids - (can't decide)
Green Day - When I Come Around
Hot Hot Heat - Bandages
JEW - A Praise Chorus
Millencolin - Bullion
Rancid - Lock, Step & Gone
Redd Kross - Pretty Please Me
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song
Sugar - A Good Idea
Thermals - Pillar of Salt

Probably got room for maybe five more.

Go!

Ex Lion Tamer

is my favourite Wire tune...very good call by Rough Trade.

I once tried to get a Wire based musical about a boy who was numerically dyslexic commissioned by the BBC.

Dillinger 4 - one trick pony.

Haha

I remember my friend wrote in to Select magazine (who had a bitter hatred for Urusei Yatsura for some reason) with following poem;

If Urusei Yatsura
Paid a visit to my town
I'd lock them in the venue
And burn the fucker down

It got printed.

Keep em coming folks x

Wow

I actually remember that getting printed

(and thinking twas a bit harsh)

Hello Tiger!

:)

I would include some old Wrens

and Superchunck.

Smoking Popes - Need You Around

If Morrissey was to go pop-punk, it might have sounded something like this.

Buzzcocks

Orgasm Addict
(if it hasn't been mentioned already)

Dead Milkmen

Punk Rock Girl!!
Greatest song ever writtn.

OKAY!

Thanks vv much everyone.

Got some definite additions for my mix from you;

1 - The Teen Idols track. Punchy!

2 - All American Rejects. How could I forget? I think that I shall use Dirty Little Secret, as a deep affection for high-school pop-punk is indeed my dirty little secret.

3 - Wildhearts. Just...amazing.

4 - Silver Sun. I had totally forgotten that this band ever existed. They had some cracking power-pop tunes alright. I notice that the first album was retrospectively reviewed as a 9/10 on DiS?

^

the first album did have some cool stuff on it

Okay, so Superchunk and Smoking Popes weren't pop-punk

in the strict sense, but they were fucking great.

A few more:

Dillinger Four - Doublewhiskeycokenoise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vHPXb6Zj9g

Bigwig - Sore Losers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnjHBcBCi6Q

I like

All of that stuff. Lagwagon through Dynamite Boy (praying for a European tour) is a little too hard'n'fast for my tape. Already got Millencolin track. LOVE Samiam and Jawbreaker (you got my fave track there alongside Sister), but that would be for a darker tape. Never heard Smoking Popes before. Erm, 'unique' vocals.

Superchunk's a goer though!

Sperchunk have been described as 'like Morrissey

fronting a pop punk band'!

Great band though, every song a love song.

NOFX
