I'm going with 'jumping fences' and 'holiday surprise 1,2,3' by The Olivia Tremor Control...
whilst I conede that the best band is obviously NMH, and the best album is obviously in the aeroplane, the songs by otc just seem to stand better alone.
And to be honest, 'dusk at cubist castle' is chasing on the heels of 'aeroplane...' anyway!! If it wasn't for the irritating ten minutes of dripping noise half way through the record... I'm all for noise, but even the mars volta kept the dripping sounds on comatorium to 2 minutes!!!
Maybe some Of Montreal tickles your fancy? Perhaps Apples in Stereo? Elf Power? The many others.....?

Surely their best was
Gay Bar.
What?
LOLZ
that was actually pretty funny, after i got it!
Jumping Fences, definitely.
Come Lie Down With Me by Elf Power is up there too.
Rapture Rapes The Muses
is my favourite OM song of all time, the way it sounds a teensy bit like a bollywood early Blur, but so idiosyncratically Of Montreal. I saw them at the Scala in August, so not sure whether to watch them again at ATP, or to see Pissed Jeans and Wooden Shjips instead...
they were really good at the scala
lots of people slagged off the gig, but i found it both hilarious and generally a great performance.
The sound was awful
but other than that, it was great! The fighting costume people and general stage show were great, and I love that they played The Past is a Grotesque Animal in full.
I didn't think the sound was that bad
maybe i was stood in a good spot.
Love Athena is my favourite OTC song
and also probably one of my all time favourites
You never sent me that Synthetic Flying Machine thing
Also, the answer is 'Love Athena'.
shit yeah
i found out i didn't actually have it - I've got invent yourself a shortcake, and there is a song on it called synthetic flying machine, which confused silly old me. Also, its practically inaudible.
ALTHOUGH, I do now have that Love Trinity single with Is Is and the IRS and Daylighting on it.... fancy me uploading that?
I actually prefer 'dusk...'
to 'aeroplane...'. Probably because I fell in love with OTC before NMH. Love Athena is fantastic, but I always had a soft spot for Marking Time.
Jumping fences
Who cares about the best E6 song, it's my favourite song by anyone*
*liable to change
its great isn't it?
in 2 minutes it summarises everything great about anything*
*maybe
Only started listening to
Dusk at Cubist Castle a month or so ago, and it was the time in so long that a song (or an album) has caught my imagination straight away, without having to listen again and again. It's the kind of album that deserves just as much praise as 'In The Aeroplane...', and yet it doesn't seem to receive it.
Saying that, I only happened to listen to it by chance.
Much Beulah and Apples In Stereo
particularly 7 stars by AIS
and Score From Augusta by Beulah
ah 7 stars
i was addicted to that for a while, but I think i overplayed it. easy to do.
Do
not speak ill of Green Typewriters!
its great when I'm in the mood
but the rest of the album is great whatever mood I'm in!!! The other sections of the song rawk.
Hideaway?
on Black Foliage.....
