do labels/bands ever send out promo vinyl to djs, reviewers instead of promo cds?

I'm sure i read about the pigeon detectives do it

It's pretty weird that if you send a record out to be reviewed as a 7", then you'd send it in any other version than that format.

due to cost, and because some DJs are frightened of records


yeah, sometimes

But usually it's just CDRs instead.

I remember taking some vinyl into an A&R's office at A Major Label and they did not have a record player to play it on.


White Stripes

I think Jack White only sent out vinyl copies of elephant because he didn't want anyone to review it who didn't own a record player.

You often see promo copies of stuff on vinyl floating about, I saw a 2 LP promo copy of the first LCD Soundsystem album in Vinyl Exchange the other day, apparently it had different mastering as well.
