was rather bloody good. seemed like a greatest hits set in fact (except for the stuff from the new album, which unsurprisingly didn't get much of a reaction). saul williams was great, and actually got a really good crowd reaction, which i think he was also a bit surprised about, as he said he'd been warned not to support them. overall a pretty great night, despite the fact that i had two female 15 year old goths behind me singing along really awfully and saying things like 'ooh trent i want to fuck you like an animal.' lovely.

Re: nine inch nails last night

oh for anyone interested they played (not in order)

Head Like A Hole
Terrible Lie
Sin
Something I Can Never Have
Wish
Gave Up
Suck
Burn
Dead Souls
Piggy
March Of The Pigs
Closer
Hurt
The Wretched
Starfuckers Inc
The Big Come Down
The Frail
You Know What You Are?
The Hand That Feeds
+ four others on the new album i can't remember the names of

the more i think about it, despite the fact that i didn't think i'd enjoy it (due to being many years away from my depressive metal obsessive period), i actually had a far better time than i did at the mars volta gig there a few months back. the sheer power of the performances + crowd reaction just made it a really surprisingly good night.

Re: nine inch nails last night

Same here, actually, back when I saw them at the Astoria a few months back. Like, I knew I had to go and see them at least once, but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

But, aw, you got Sin!

Re: nine inch nails last night

and it was rather ace, much better live than on record. except the keyboards weren't loud enough in the mix so that funky keyboard bit in the end was a bit of a damp squib. other than that, lovely.

Re: nine inch nails last night

Yeah, that was great last night. I'm not sure I've ever heard any of their songs beforehand, but my mate had a spare ticket and I wasn't doing anything better. But, wow - what a band, and what a live spectacle.

Has he always looked like Bruce Springsteen though?

Re: nine inch nails last night

Stunning live show they put on, and from where I was the crowd got dancing and moving to a lot of the new stuff too.

Saul Williams was ok, the monologue was amazing, but the rest of the time I couldn't hear what the words were, think the reverb from the music drowned out his diction. Might have helped if you knew the music before hand....

Re: nine inch nails last night

yeh saul was a bit badly mixed, i know the records but couldn't make out a lot of it.

Re: nine inch nails last night

I loved it! I'm definitely a long way past my depressive goth period (I'm 24 and soon to be married) but the music's still great and it still has a lot of emotional resonance for me. I saw them last at Brixton in 1999 and that was great but last night completely blew me away. I was worried too that I'd go and not enjoy it - so many times over the last few years I've gone to see old heroes and they've been a disappointment, and the old songs have pissed all over the new ones but not last night. Although the new songs didn't get as much of a reaction I thought they still stood their own in the set. I really couldn't be happier. There were a few annoying people there, but less than usual and as I was on my own I was able ot move around every time someone blocked my view etc so I had a relatively hassle free evening. I couldn't get over how many people were smoking though! I go to very few rock gigs these days, mostly to electronica gigs and experimental stuff and very few people smoke at them in comparison.

And I thought Saul Williams was a bit silly. He's got a real chip on his shoulder about being black/slavery etc.

Re: nine inch nails last night

yeh he's got absolutely no reason really, black folks all have golden toilet seats and private jets in america and should really just shut up a bit.
