Hello
I'm listening to this album for the first in quite awhile at work and I had forgotten how darn good it is and though I enjoy their other albums this is still my favourite.
Anyone else a fan of this album or their work in general?
Im a fan of this album
Its by far their strongest
i think this album is nothing more than mediocre
and is probably more over-rated than In Rainbows or Sound Of Silver.
What a load of rubbish.
Unarguably a fantastic album. A real grower as well.
^Could you be more wrong.
Yes, you could have said that Sound Of Silver and In Rainbows were amazing.
I can't belive you said this.
It is a work of beauty, as is Sound of Silver. In Rainbows is amazing also.
Interpol got me through some good times at uni...
:'(
it's a marvellous record. i'll agree with you on the other two. (although Sound of Silver does have some good moments.)
bit harsh
I'd say it's good but gets a bit boring after a while, has some dodgy lyrics and is fairly one dimensional
I think that's pretty fair
When I first got it, I listened to it non-stop for about two months, and then have hardly touched it since. Then singles off it were pretty good, but not so good that I was desperate to listen to them again.
And I saw them live and if you closed your eyes it was like listening to the record being played really loudly. Hmmm.

that's quite a bit of an exaggeration.
It's a very solid album but it is certainly over-rated.
Its not overrated at all.
I'll go with the person who said its subtle. It's one of the few (Is This It + Bows + Arrows being the others) from that whole NYC scene six and seven years ago that still bears up.
It's an album of incredible depth and atmosphere.
I can understand why people who have listened to it only a few times would say it was monotonous, and it does have some silly lyrics, but its an album that really repays the attention given to it.
And that rhythm section! Wow
Nailed-on classic.
Sorry but
I've listened to it more than enough times.
It certainly doesn't have the depth of the albums it's trying to emulate.
It's a very competent album with very good songs, but for me, not the masterpiece many people are saying it is.
We'll have to agree to disagree!
Indeed !
gasp! medulla!
? goodness sakes. Turn On Zee Bright Alights earns every accolade. Trouble is, mere human beings could possibly give it the ratings it deserves with mere, puny words.
*Trouble is, NO mere human beings could possibly..... blah, blah, blah
!
Worth having
for NYC and the opener, whatever that's called.
I've had it for about a year
and generally just stick it on when I don't have any particular preference for anything else (using it almost as the dreaded "background music"). Recently though, it's really started growing on me, and I keep finding guitar lines and random lyrics cropping up in my subconscious. Definitely a good album, but perhpas a bit monotonous.
To sum up: "Subtle".
its
one of my favourite albums of the 00's. definately interpol's best album as well
To me, that album is wonderful
practically perfection. The start of Untitled gives me the shivers. Such a shame Antics wasn't as good.
Absolute nailed-on modern classic.
Despite containing some pretty ropey lyrics.
"Leif Erikson" is my favourite: the moment at the end where the solo crawls out of the last verse and sets the whole album spinning into space. Glorious.
It's truly wonderful.
Their other albums are very good aswell and criminally underrated.
underrated like all those amazing beatle albums
that have to live in the shadow of Sgt. Peepers.
It is the best album
I have heard this decade. I love every minute of it (even the vaguely silly lyrics).
turn on the bright lights is one of the greatest albums ever
FACTZZ
Hello there
I am a fan of this album and their work in general. This album the most though.
I'm a huge fan of this album
Loved TOTBL and thought Antics was better
than people give it credit for.
What's the 'new' one like though? I still haven't heard it.
It is good. The worse album, but still good.
Kinda like saying Nestle chocolate is the worst. it is still chocolate.
Probably not as good as Antics
But it's growing on me, slowly.
His lyrics are even worse, though. "You wear those shoes like a dove." What the fuck?
The guitar sound is different too: a bit colder than Antics, and a bit spacier.
"Mammoth" is, and "Pioneer to the Falls" is also good.
Okay, thanks for the replies.......
I need to listen to this before Latitude.
If TOTBL is a 10
and Antics is an 8
then
OLTA is a 6.5
Great opener and closer, and some decent stuff in the middle, but none of the depth of the first one.
This is exactly right
Although maybe a 7.5 for Antics.
brilliant LP
bye
this whole album makes me melt
with joy. And 'Evil' from Antics too...can't wait for Latitude
isn't this the 54,456 subject on this matter?
not that i mind necessarily and i like all three albums equally for the record.
My favourite record of all time
srsly
My joint favourite album of all time
alongside OK Computer. How predictable.
snap!
oh look, it stopped snowing
i'm gonna pull u in close, gonna wrap u up tight, gonna play with the braids, that u came here with tonight
subway is a porno
he was growing on me
left my courage in the ice box
we have 200 couches where u can sleep 2nite
; - ) sorry, just reminiscing
Best album of the 00s so far
IMO
It was actually
his "urge" in the icebox.
I thought it was "birch"
As in a length of birch, used to strike women in a misogynistic, degrading, and extremely sexy way.
My God. I'm a pervert.
i prefer a quince tree switch for sexy drubbing
so do the laydees
Far too classy for me!
I usually use a plastic ruler. But's that because they normally have one handy, being schoolgi---
<abandon reply>
he's a bit of a mumbler
and i'm a bit of a dolt
a truly wonderful album
has so many moments on it that make me go a little funny, in a very good way. particularly PDA
I like Antics better than this album
Sorry. Antics sounds more like their own body of work, whereas TOTBL rips off too many other acts.
Plus Next Exit and Public Pervert slay.
I thought it was shit
Sounded good, but upon closer inspection the lyrics are so bad I quickly sold the album on eBay.
eg:
"I feel like love is in the kitchen with a culinary eye,
I think he's making something special
And I'm smart enough to try"
oooow - still makes me cringe. The Joy Division comparisions too. pfffft. Style over substance.
BEFORE THIS TURNS INTO ANOTHER INTERPOL JOY DIVISION THREAD
please allow be to draw a line. It's been done to death. Some people like the album, some don't. Coooool
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Allow *me*
cough.
Here's another line
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
but you can say that about any album
and then there wouldn't be much point in having music forums like DiS?
(said from behind the line, not over it!)
he just doesn't like squabbling over beauty such as
turn on the bright lights
-poor ash, I hear ya
