Sad Pony Guerilla Girl

is the potentially the greatest song that has ever graced my ears.

*listens*

The Air Force for me

perfect all the way through.

not an album,

but the song rock and roll by the velvet underground is currently the best thing ever

A Promise

Saw them Tuesday
Seeing them again tonight with Why and Black Mountain and Marissa Nadler and Scout Niblett... Life is Beautiful

oh and

the best albums are definitely A Promise and Fabulous Muscles. Everything since has been patchy to various degrees, albeit with some stunning moments.

While not as good

I wouldn't say they were patchy. The new album is also great. I'm such a Xiu xiu fan boy...

new album's better than

the previous two, definitely. Still get bored listening to it all the way through though.

I still only have Fabulous Muscles

due to various circumstances (lack of money) and his makes me sad. xiu xiu are awesome.

Xiu Xiu fans:

do you like Joan Of Arc?

you should.

hmm

xiu xiu are in Joan Of Arc's similar artists on last.fm. but not vice versa.

maybe i like xiu xiu cos im a joa fan, and xiu xiu fans wont like joa :(

are they

a Kinsella band of some sort? I haven't heard them really.

its tim kinsellas main project

sort of solo, but he gets everyone else ever to play with him

knife play>

A promise>
fabulous muscles>
the air force>
fag patrol e.p>
La foret>
no opinion on the new one yet.

You should also check up out ten in the swear jar, there surprisingly fully formed for an earlier band

YEAH MAN XIU XIU

i can't wait to see them at ULU or wherever the gig is, i don't know. i'm going by myself, look after me alcxxk.

its at ULU

yes, let's chill

first four tracks of

Knife Play is unbeatable...I made a Xiu Xiu 20 track compilation recently from every record they have put out, they have some absolutely awesome overlooked pop songs...muppet face may be the greatest, or Poe Poe

fabulous muscles

all the way.

has anyone noticed

how good Xiu Xiu's music videos are? They take me back to the mid-90s when people seemed to do and try new and interesting things that stick in your head. My top three...

Yep

Best band ever, hands down. A Promise and Women as Lovers are amazing.

Yeh, Ten in the Swear Jar also have alternate versions of Xiu Xiu songs (King Earth, I Love the Valley etc...). IBOPA are another of Jamie's early bands, so worth a look too.

I saw Xiu Xiu a couple weeks ago

and my problem was this. I kept thinking, "What would an overthetop gay pretentious performance art dude from San Francisco sound like?" Oh, this. Meh.

Hehe...I'll struggle on somehow

I didn't hate the show or anything...uhm, just sorta "unmoved" by it.

Fabulous Muscles

is by far the best

there is a really good remix of that track

by Kid 606 its really lush and warm sounding summery house style version I love it. I've not herd much else from them.

I'm a complete Xiu Xiu newb

but as a) they are getting a lot of love from some very well informed types here and b) their albums are all up for download on emusic, I am going to get aquainted.

Could someone please tell me: roughly what sort of sound / genre to prepare myself for and where the best place to start is for a newb like myself?

Taaaaa

"experimental"

but, liek, songs n that

like the best bits of bjork, but gayer

shouting gay man

is upset, but he likes a bit of dancing too

like Magnetic fields then?

but with dancing?

And shouting...?

not really

go to
http://www.myspace.com/xiuxiuforlife

and listen to I Love The Valley OH, it's the last song on the list
