Football Thread - Live, Social and Beating Up Chelsea Fans

So, I thought it might be nice if people with a passing interest in the football thread had a meet up sometime this summer. Maybe a kickaround followed by a drink in a pub taking in a EURO2008 game or two.

Would anyone be up for this?

It would probably be Londoncentric and of course we could lay on a whole days entertainment for those who fancied coming from afar.

This sounds like a great idea..

..could I bring a friend?

Course

Cool

I was thinking of inviting my friend who lives in london.

I live in Northamptonshire but I may be able to make it depending when and where exactly it is.

Do you want your friend

to know about the bus stop thread?

He already knows..

..he wouldn't be bothered, he's a close friend and loves me despite my obvious faults. :)

Although he hasn't read it.

i'm prepared

to find it and bind it especially for the occasion.

I'd be up for this

I'll take on any of you fuckers. I am proper shit at football now though. I guess that is what happens when you don't play anything aside from FIFA for 5 years

Shotgun on the Chelsea beating

WEST LONDON PRIDE.

Sounds awesome, I'm in.

Anywhere but the Coffee House

No, you're the QPR fan!

This doesn't work at all

i'm game

I'm well up for this

in fact, it sounds like the best day ever.

i got new shin pads yesterday. gave a tenner to my mum and asked her to pop into the JJB by her work. i wish i'd waited until saturday. the fuckers were impossible to take off when i was all sweaty after my game.

i must ask Mr Galactic, do you play 5-a-side in Kettering?

The JJB in Corby.

but i don't see why not... you can buy DCFC shin pads from our club shop. with little Rams on and everything.

I didn't answer your question, did I.

No I don't, I sometimes play football on the astroturf at Montsaye school in Rothwell but we don't have a team going. We've thought about it but I don't think enough people would be available.

ah right

i was just wondering. the firm that does our 5-a-side in Moulton has one up in Kettering and asked us if we were interested. bit of a trek mind.

Montsaye eh. We never played any schools from up that way, tended to be South Northants only.

Good good good.

So I'm guessing the best place would be somewhere around Regents Park/Camden area? Reasonably central/reachable.. I also suggest one of the Saturdays in June that isn't the 28th?

Yes

Not the 14th if at all possible. Girlfriends birthday you see.

Just do both

It will be 'hilarious' in an 80s screwball comedy kind of way

is a Friday...

21st would probably be a decent day...

Yes, that's what I meant.

Must read calendar more closely.

I think that would

also be quarter final day...

ideal

i'll be well up for some football then a few beers.

i wish i knew more of you or just any of you from london in real life

i would be well up for this if i didnt live so far away and i knew some of you :(:(:(:(

i don't know anyone and live an hour away

that enough to make you feel better about it?

^ This

Although by that point I'll probably be living in London

I live ages away due to the poorness of the trains to/from Nottingham

and have met people a couple of times.
But... football?

And Regents Park

is so so easy from Kings Cross/St Pancras as well.

There are indeed

hmmm, I need to visit home at some stage around then, may combine it with that.

oh hell yeah

snacks too?

Yup, course

the front is terrific though

and loaded with footballing skills.

Too late

You're injured, therefore in goal.

literally loaded

godspeed danielkelly

godspeed :'(

I totally would

but have no money and stuff to get to London.

Next year?

Every year

if I'm around london in the summer,

which in all likeliness I will be, I'll be there.

I'm rubbish and out of practice at the moment though.

You, me and about 20 others

will be out of practice. Have no fear.

oh have fear ht27..

have lots of fear.

i broke my kickup/kneeup record on tuesday with a massive 51. i cant shoot/pass/tackle/run to save my life though

Well,

that's approximately 50 more keep ups than I can do...

it's 47 more than i have ever managed

defenders don't need to do kick ups. that's what mad dad used to say anyway...

One touch to stop the ball*

The second to hoof it away from the goal.

*First touch optional.

if you can't get the ball

get the man. my mantra from the age of 8-15 until people started kicking me back...

one of my old friends

managed to get zero kick ups once.

I can run

and occasionally pass, but can't kickup/kneeup/shoot/tackle to save my life though. Another couple of people and we've got a complete player.

this is how robbie savage became a professional footballer

"so robbie you cant really do a lot can you?"
"well no boss but thetre is this!"
at which point he does 50 tap ups

i will maybe come to this

i'm not going to lie to you guys, i'm fucking awesome at footballing.

we will see

a week tomorrow

err yeah

maybe, if i can be bothered to play with you guys. i'd just run the show man, it would be embarrassing for the rest of you :D

I'd be interested

I'm terrible at football but I would at least play with apparent enthusiasm.

Yeah I'd be up for this

I'm fairly well off, sublime at football but pretty boring in real life.

I'm a maybe

I can't run anymore but I used to be amazing at crossing so fingers crossed that remains. I also uphold the English tradition of never using my left foot.

I broke that tradition

by being left footed. Although I sometimes use my right instead.

I'm left-footed...

..but use both in almost equal measure, I prefer my left though.

I'll hit you with the reducer

in the first minute leaving you as a spectator for the rest of the game.

did you ever have a nickname football wise?

i was proud to be known as Stephen 'The Scythe' Marshall for many years (by 2 people). good times.

i committed my first bad foul in ages last night. tricky little fucker thought he could skip round me all game? not on my watch son.

I was called Iron Rob

in my under 12s team

I'm definitely up for this...

never met up with anyone from DiS and this seems like a great reason too. Loving the football threads, and love a good kick-about.

If you get a time & date sorted maybe people can count themselves definitely in/out?

As a lurker/fringe member of football threads

Then I'll come. For the kickabout. Beware the 5'8 weed trying to two footed tackle everything in site.

This

is a brilliant idea don't think I'll be able to make it unless it's early June though :o(
