Don't know if it's already been talked about on this board, but even the big newspapers are talking about it now...

If they wanted everyone to talk about them, it's a success. As for the point of that video, that's everyone guess...

yeeeah

indeed, what is the point?

Don't know

if you're serious or ironic.
If you could read many of the comments, you would be very afraid...

there all in french idiot!

noone seems to be talking about how much a kilo of peaches is, so its beyond my understanding

What's the deal?

No Youtube at work.

Controversial why?

its some kids

running around being chavvy basically, with the big justice logo on their jackets.

None the wiser...

Sounds relatively un-outrageous?

Well

they might be linking it to the riots that happened last year, or whenever it was. It does show black and Muslim people beating people up and generally being violent...

Ah.

Clearer now.

not just "some kids"

black and muslims acting violently exactly like some people perceive people from "la banlieue" acting.

Presumably...

They meet some kind of horrific end, no?

No.

They beat the cameraman and go away.

hope they paid for all that stuff

its almost like a chav tutorial guide

Just watched it...

Admitidely not in the best taste given the current climate but it's not particularly outrageous and it's not just black kids and muslim kids. There's some white kids in the gang too.

I actually thought it was quite clever the way they break the fourth wall at the end.

Oh yes

it's very clever and very well filmed, and it's probably more of a comment on the Parisian working class than on any minorities.

But, I dunno, it feels a bit pointless.

Not particularly outrageous indeed.

The problem, I think, is that it tries to be very clinical about urban violence ( and fail as some parts are really caricatural ) and failed to make any point ( unless you count the feel attempt at criticize the relation between media and violence ). Justice and Gavras have yet to make a statement about what they meant, I think.

Some of the comments on youtube are really frightening as how the video is perceived.

TRANSLATE PLEASE

for example :

"minable, une honte pour ces jeunes, des déchets de l'humanité, à détruire au Napalm et quel exemple pour les jeunes!"

pathetic, a shame for this kids, waste of humanity, to destroy with napalm, and what an example for the youth

Sadly many like that in the first few pages only...

hmm

a bit lost in translation, but i get the idea

Yeah

Clockwork Orange, La Haine and Lost in Translation were all big influences.

Big?

I guess I can see elements of that in there too.

The bit

where the lads slam the lid down on the giant piano was left on the cutting room floor, sadly.

some nice shots of the sacre coeur in there.

but really, i take it the director is highlighting the shitness of the paris burbs?

I was reminded of Clockwork Orange

It's a brilliant piece of film, although I wonder if it could be dangerous in the wrong hands.

You mean Blofeld, don't you?

Not sure what he could do with it.

I know, I've seen it.

I'm taking it seriously, I'm just not sure about other bobby.

gould?

i wouldnt trust as far as i could throw him (not far)

What I mean is

that after watching that, I felt like I wanted to be on the side of the NASTY kids rather than the LOOSERS who got done over.

Clockwork Orange and La Haine are both obvious influences

many of the comments prove it is dangerous even before it's used by the wrong people ( which it probably will be soon )...

So it's basically a rip of La Haine, non?

But without the baddie from Oceans 12, the Iraqi from 3 Kings and the other one who was never in another film.

It does at least have the CRS beating down on them too in the interests of realism...

Yes

which can look for some people like a justification for their violence...

Wow, that was quite intense!

I don't know what it's a commentary on, but it's definitely an interesting film clip.

ahem

what doesn't cause a big deal in france?
that's at least my american generalizing mentality of you lot.
(=

i'm actually envious of this; my american brethren are completely apathetic to everything. )=

^ i can vouch for your concerning that statement.

it's a categorical fact that american, icluding myself, are apathetic sons-of-bitches.

If this is causing issues in France

I'm surprised the new Black Lips video isn't causing more of a stir over here.

I hate the school filters

I can't read half the threads or see this!

What's the deal with Justice

Do they use the 'Crucifix' because they are of Christian faith?

Feel free to laugh.

I thought that

I'm stupid, though.

Well, they seem pretty keen

on promoting it if they aren't.

Personally I think that they are Christians.

I thought it was just because it's such a recognisable symbol,

that people would see it in a musical context and imediately associate it with them - also, they can bang up a big glowing one at the front of their gigs and have all the religious/spiritual rave undertones that go with it.

Then again, I've also heard that Justice are just a made-up front for a Daft Punk side project. So this is all just speculation.

What a crap video..

I am not a massive fan of Justice, to be honest.. (think the track, anyway, for it's genre is substandard and medicore, compared to other counterparts in their scene - could relate to the guy kicking in the car hifi when D.A.N.C.E came on - he he)...

But yeah, lots of racial tension in the Paris suburbs... and I do think that this could be perceived by some as a glorification of gang warfare..

I found some of the imagry pretty shocking...

I wish I could read the comments in full..

But yes, any PR is PR, whether good or bad and on that level, they have succeeded...

I don't think they will release a statement... an explanation... that will be part of this whole image, I suspect.

some people might see it as glorification

but it'll mostly play the game of Sarkozy and Le Pen ( as can be seen when you read the comment ).

Finally not that surprising coming from 2 guys from one of the most right-wing city of France...

oh really? where in France are they from?

I wasn't aware of their background...

they're with the Versailles "crew"

even if they aren't from there.

PS - I need to go back to Paris very soon

was talking about another trip only last night. I can feel the addiction coming back on again for another club weekend there ;-)

Fuck, I think I just need to move to that city.

What a great track!

and equally brilliant video.

i couldn't take my eyes of it, whilst i stuffed my face with a sainsburys chocolate eclaire. both of which where thoroughly enjoyable.

The video is pretty unsettling

It also succeeds in taking the attention away from the song, which, in my opinion, is pretty cack.

it's Justice

what did you expect ?

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt

It's my downfall at times.
