with you having to register it to a computer they improved.
When you have WinAmp letting you remove stuff as well as put stuff on there's not really much against them apart from the utter cockarse they give you for headphones.
got one of them 160gb classics last october, it broke 2 weeks back - hard drive died or something. but apple gave me a brand new one no questions asked - so kudos for that.
BUT i had my creative one for like 6 years before it lost sound in the right channel and had no other problems with it during the time i had the thing.
anyway, the market has totally shifted from high capacity players to small ones and video models. i only bought an iPod because nobody else makes models about 30GB these days :(
I was actually tempted to get a 160GB one to put all my CDs on - once as MP3s and once in 'disk mode' so that I could retrieve them easily if my PC crashed, since I reasoned I'll never go beyond about 60GB of music at this rate.
Then we could just move the ipod about the flat to play in the main room or the bedroom and never need the computer on with a long cable across the floor to play everything.
Then my mate's just died all of a sudden and I reconsidered this plan.
iTunes has supported it for a while now, most other players even longer. If you look at the tags of a song it has two fields, "artist" and "album artist".
Album artist is useful with compilations. So, in Winamp, I have everything organised by album artist, then album, so the Lost In Translation soundtrack will be under Soundtrack > Lost In Translation. Same thing for compilations. It's really useful because before it came along I had all my compilations/soundtracks as the artist being Soundtrack/Various, then the album name, and the title of the song would be, for example, "The Jesus & Mary Chain - Just Like Honey." That doesn't work with last.fm.
On an ipod, it only supports the artist field, so things with different artists on them get split up into 20 or so different individual songs. And I don't know why, considering it wouldn't be a particularly difficult thing to arrange.
It's great, really slim case so no bulk, screen protector, access to touch wheel, USB port connection things, hold button and earphone socket too (remarkably difficult to find cases that allow access to all of those without removing them first).
and so i was thinking about moving to another manufacturer. But no, the iPod is pretty much the only currently produced mp3 player which offers gapless support. What the fuck is up with that? If i want to listen to a non song based album i have to contend with 2 seconds of silence between every track. In this day and age?
As the late Bernard Manning said, "it's a motherfucking disgrace rudebwoy". And frankly, i agree with him. No wonder music is dying
I'm now quite possibly never going to leave the house, ever. I can't even go hang the washing on the line if I don't have my iPod. I'm not so sure why. It's kind of annoying.
I was like you
I bought one at Christmas with my bonus.
It is amazing, I take everything I've said back
Once they ditched the whole obsession
with you having to register it to a computer they improved.
When you have WinAmp letting you remove stuff as well as put stuff on there's not really much against them apart from the utter cockarse they give you for headphones.
And the fact that it has no radio.
You can remove stuff from iPods with WinAmp?
Does this include iPod touch?
I presume so, yes.
Just plug it in and drag and drop as you fancy.
WinAmp will convert WMAs to MP3 before putting them on iPods too. May do the same for Ogg Vorbis.
im a bit 'meh' to ipods

first thing you do - get some decent ear phones!
i didnt open mine for 3 months
when i did, i decided i was an idiot
For not opening it sooner?
Or was that nothing to do with the iPod?
haha the-o! wow you're on FIRE today.....
no for not oepning it sooner
Well with you it could have been
that you thought it was a pile of shit and regretted not selling it new and unopened...
no thats not it
What happened to your Zen?
My Zen has started crashing semi-frequently
it died
i dropped it several times on a nightbus when i was drunk :(
you dropped it once!
itwas a hunk of shit.
you won't look back
Until it dies mysteriously for no good reason
and then it'll be a Sony next or something.
i used to have a sony
it was great.
anyway, the market has totally shifted from high capacity players to small ones and video models. i only bought an iPod because nobody else makes models about 30GB these days :(
I actually didn't think they made 30GB ones anymore
I thought you could only get 80GB or 160GB. Unless you got a 32GB Touch in which case: *geek drool*
they do
but creative make a 30GB still and that's the biggest non-iPod available.
sorry, that wasn't clear
they do 80gb or 160gb, not 30gb.
i got an 80gb. i was tempted by 160gb but, based on past form, i'll kill this within 18 months and there's no way i'll fill an 80gb in that time ;)
No, quite.

Got given one for my birthday
after so many years of sneering at all of my friends with their "I'm so rich look what I bought", I'll never feel clean again :(
I do like mine
I just wish they'd update the interface so you can browse by album artist too, as that's how I organise everything by in Winamp.
Um
On my girlfriend's I'm sure I can click 'Artist' and then it lists all the artists. What do you mean?
It's a different tag
iTunes has supported it for a while now, most other players even longer. If you look at the tags of a song it has two fields, "artist" and "album artist".

I am thinking of flirting with the idea of getting a new
phone and one of the deals that gives you an iPod touch. But, my Zen still works really well and has better sound quality.
:S
I love them.
And mine's lasted for two years now (touch wood and all that), so fuck deh haterzz.
I do need a new mp3 player
this thread is making me think that an ipod is the right move.
which model?
80gb 'classic'
in black.
gosh
10x larger than my touch :'(
twins!
I need to get a new one.
The battery life on my pathetic 4GB mini (old school) one lasts about the same length of time as a Locust record.
about time!
I have a silver 160 GB yock
It's great
jesus fucking christ i hate apple
it doesn't come with any kind of protective case, but it comes with some fucking apple logo stickers.
:D
I feel your pain........
I bought one of these for my 80gb classic:
http://tinyurl.com/4hgmpk
It's great, really slim case so no bulk, screen protector, access to touch wheel, USB port connection things, hold button and earphone socket too (remarkably difficult to find cases that allow access to all of those without removing them first).
God!
I spent ages looking for something exactly like this but had to settle for:
http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3508717/Marware-Sport-Grip-Case-For-iPod-80GB-Classic/Product.html
I wanted leather dammit!
Apple stickers! :D :D
with enough stickers you could probably fashion a protective coating for the ipod.
no?
I bought one due to the good storage capacity to price ratio.
Apart from that, however, it is easily the worst MP3 player I've ever owned.
What players have you used previously?
I have no frame of reference as I've only ever used iPods.
I will NEVER buy one !
medal?
no need !
^ Prefers Thomson electronics!
:D
Does Thomson still exist ?
Bien sur!
and what are they producing
now that they don't sell unusable computers to school ?
Well, judging by the contents of the Super-U in Calais.......
lots and lots and lots of flat screen televisions!
what were you doing
in the Super-U in Calais.......?
Shopping for cheap alcohol, paprika crisps and
little madeleine* cakes.
*It wasn't me!
you found
paprika crisps in a Super-U ?
Oh yes.
Big packets and also multi packs with plain, paprika and bacon....delicious!
why?
that's a bit stupid though isn't it.
it is though isn't it.
because
I can't listen to music outside of my house on my stereo...
Tchibo are selling a dead-cheap plug-in-your-iPod stereo system
£35 to replace my knackered stereo system! whoo.
from all the horror stories i was expecting my nano to last about three months but it's been in heavy use for about two years and is still going.
Well done
Last.fm's recent update has started scrobbling my ipod tracks as well!
are you not finding iTunes incredibly annoying/wank/shit?
god yes.
I love my iPod
I got one after my minidisc player finally packed up for the last time.
When I have some money...
I'm going to upgrade my pathetic iRiver H10 6Gb into something decent.
Shopping list with my first set of placement wages
-A film camera. None of this digital bee ess.
-ipod nano
my iPod recently died

Mine has finally died
