Let's look at Volta again, a year on.
There's a few of tracks i like alot. But it isnt love. If this was a relationship we'd go our seperate ways but still be friends.
Then there's dull flame, declare independence, pissing me off... is the track ordering off? What is wrong with this album?
The instruments begin to grate. WHY IS THAT HORN/SITAR/WHATEVER SO FUCKING PIERCING? WHY IS THIS MUSIC WINDING ME UP? WHY IS IT SO PERSISTENT?
When i first got the album it made me want to go and listen to Debut and Post again... and i did. Alot. And avoided spending time with Volta.
Today i put it on and Dull Flame makes me a clenched fist, Innocence makes me stare longingly at Debut on my cd rack, and the rest POKED - ME - IN - THE - FUCK - ING - CHEST - OVER - AND - OVER
